New App – kDialer 1.0

kDialer kDialer is available in the Installer.app through the ModMyiFone.com source. This app gives you a quick way to dial numbers that are in your contacts. The app opens to your current dialer (keypad). As you type in a number it automatically brings up the phone number that is closest to the number you are dialing. The numbers are taken out of your contacts list. As you continue to type the number in…it continues to update with the number closest to the one you are typing. Once the phone number you are looking for shows up..just tap Dial in the top right corner or the main Dial button in the bottom center of the screen. You can also tap Exit in the top left corner to exit the app without making a call. There seems to be one glitch with this app [Read more…]

New App – AcceleroLog 1.1 (Accelerometer Log)

AcceleroLog This is one high tech app. AcceleroLog track the X, Y & Z axis of the accelerometer and will log it to a file (/private/var/root/accelerolog.txt). You can also adjust the Sample Rate or Give it a Priority Boost in the settings. This is a great app for those developing apps for the iPhone. You can download this via Installer.app from the Ste Packaging Source.

New App – RealArtist 0.1

RealArtist RealArtist is a new app available for download in the Installer.app through the Ste Packaging source. RealArtist is an app that allows you to manipulate a photo. When the app opens it will pull in your most recent photo…if you do not have any photos you will get a picture of Mr. Steve Jobs. You can then drag your finger on the screen to smudge and blur the photo. A pretty cool little app…though, it would be really cool if you could choose the photo you wanted to open! All that said…I am getting A TON of glitching with this app. I have a feeling RealArtist is not compatible with the Dock app. It was so glitchy that I couldn’t get a screenshot because they would just show up black. I uninstalled Dock and the glitchiness definately improved though, there was still some glitching. Let me know in the comments if this app works for you. Here are the screenshots I could get:

iPhoneHome Update 0.7.2

iPhoneHome There has been an update to iPhoneHome in the Installer.app through the Ste Packaging source. The update to iPhoneHome added exactly what I hoped it would and more!! You can now choose to set the double tap of your Home button to Springboard Home, iPhone Favorites and iPod – in addition to all of the options before the update. If you watched our most recent iPhone101 podcast, you know that iPhoneHome was my 3rd party app pick of the week. The only thing I thought it was missing was the ability to choose your iPhone Favorites as an option…but, not any more!! YAY! Great update! Here are the screenshots:

Backgammon Update 1.10

Backgammon Backgammon is available in the Installer.app through the Ste Packaging source. With the update comes a new icon…I must say I like the new icon better than the old one!! The menu options have also changed…there has been the addition of a Settings button in the menu. When you tap on Settings it brings you to another menu where you can choose to play the game in Portrait or Landscape mode. You can also choose the Match length…anywhere from 1-99 (I have absolutely no idea what that means!! :)). Once you have selected your settings just tap the Done button in the top left corner…this will bring you back to the main menu. You will also find that the board has a new design. Here are the screenshots:

psx4all – Playstation for the iPhone

The Playstation emulator for the iPhone has finally been released. As of now it still is very slow for the games I’ve tested. I will try to give you step-by-step instructions on how to install and run this app, upload ROMs and bios and how to rip your own games right from your Playstation discs.

1. First install the app from Installer app.
2. Next you will need some ROMs. You can download some at http://www.emuparadise.org/roms/psx/ This game can play ROMs with the following file extensions: .ISO, .IMG, .BIN, .Z, .ZNX
3. Now you need to use SSH to upload the ROMs to the var/root/Media/ROMs/PSX folder. You will have to create the ROMs folder if you haven’t already and also the PSX folder. You can do this with the SSH program. Make sure you use exact capitalization.
4. Now you need to download the bios. Just google search for the flie scph1001.bin. Just upload it to the /Applications folder and set it’s permissions to 0755.
5. Now you just run the app and pick a game to play. [Read more…]

New Game – Cave

Cave Cave is available in the Installer.app through the Ste Packaging source. This is supposed to be an accelerator based game in which you tilt your iPhone and lead a snake through a tunnel. However, no matter what you do, the game always crashed in the same spot about 3 second into the game. I was waiting for an update before I did the review…but, I haven’t seen one yet so I decided to do the review anyway! There is really no need to install this game…you will just end up uninstalling it! Ok…this game is actually based on touch! Who knew (actually Esfera knew)! How you really play the game is by touching the screen. It is a little tricky but once you get used to it…it is doable. The snake is automatically pulled to the left…so, to keep it from running into the left wall…you need to touch the screen which makes the snake turn right. But, you have to stop touching the screen in time that the snake doesn’t run into the right wall! I know…sounds difficult…and it is…but, it is also slightly addicting. The only thing they need now is a Play Again or New Game button because right now you have to hit the Home button to go back to the SpringBoard and then reopen the app to play again. Here are the screenshots:

ContraSense Update 1.4

ContraSense There is an update in the Installer.app for ContraSense which is available through the Soneso Repository source. This is another great update to an app in the Soneso Repository!! They are on a roll tonight! The update adds a ton of new features to this game. The first change you will notice is the addition of Highscores. To view the Highscores without playing the game…tap on Highscores in the main menu. The next change you will notice is after you tap play and the app beings…it now says, Gentleman start your engines and then the game will begin. That is not the only change…you will also notice little colored blotches (oil spills) have been added to the play screen…every time you drive over one you get 10, 12, 15 or 20 extra points. Your iPhone will now vibrate when the car touches the wall and [Read more…]

If you decide to play the game…after you have won one game…the option “Quit & submit score” will show up in the top right corner. When you select Quit & submit score it will bring up a wheely thing that allows you to enter your nickname. Once you have selected a nickname just tap Submit Score in the bottom right corner…only the top 25 scores are displayed on the website. You can also select Menu in the bottom left corner to get back to the main menu. Here are the screnshots:

4Balls Update 1.3 & 1.4

4Balls 4Balls is available in the Installer.app through the Soneso Repository Source. There a quite a few changes with the updates (1.4 came out right after 1.3) to this app! The first change you will notice is to the wording in the 1st menu options. You can now select to play; 1 Player vs. computer, Computer vs 1 player, 2 player and there is now a donate button. The option used to be Human vs Human, Human vs Device, Device vs Human and there was no donate button. The second change you will notice is to the 2nd menu options. Instead of just having the ability to choose between Level 1, 2, and 3 the option are now; Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Score game and Highscores. If you choose Score game…when you begin playing, it keeps track of your Level, the number of games you have played, the amount of time you have been playing on that game and your score. If you win the game, you will go up to the next level and points will be added to your score. If you lose a game, [Read more…]

New App – iDialer

iDialer iDialer is available in the Installer.app through the ModMyiFone source. When you open iDialer it opens directly to your dialer. You can then type in the number you want to call and tap dial in the top right corner to make the call (you can also use the normal call button in the lower middle…I’m not sure why there is a seperate dial button on the top!). Note: you do not have to erase the default number to enter your number….just start typing in the number you would like to call!! I was totally confused at first…I was like, why wont this number erase!! If you do want to erase a number, once you have typed one in, just tap the back arrow in the lower right corner. To add a number as a contact just tap the contact button in the lower left corner. You can also tap Exit in the top left corner to exit the app without making a phone call. This app is just a quick way to go straight to your dialer…I could see it being useful if you put it on your dock or at least the first page of your SpringBoard…if not, I think it would be just as fast to go into your Phone and then your keypad. Here are the screenshots:

How do I change the dialer on my iPhone?

Below are instruction on how to manually change the dialer on your iPhone. The “dialer” is the keypad used to dial a phone number when in your Phone.

If you are on firmware 2.x – When you jailbreak your iPhone/iPod Touch, the Cydia application will be added to your SpringBoard with the rest of your applications. You will want to go into Cydia and search for the OpenSSH application. If it is not already installed, you will need to install it.

If you are on firmware 1.1.4 or below – you will need to use the installer.app and install both BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH on your iPhone (in that order).

Below are the rest of the instructions which are the same for all current firmware:
If you are on a PC…you will then need to install WinSCP on your computer. Macs come with OpenSSH but if you’d like some alternatives check here. To connect to WinSCP you will need to go into your Settings application on your iPhone and then into the Wi-fi option, click on the little arrow next to the Wi-Fi you are connected to and get the ip address. Now open WinSCP on your computer….the Host Name is your ip address (with the periods) the user name is root and the password is alpine. Don’t worry about the Private key file, you don’t need to put anything there. Hit login.

Once WinSCP opens, the dialer goes into /Applications/MobilePhone.app. Once you are in that folder you will see all of the stock files for your MobilePhone application this is where you are going to drag your new files to. [Read more…]

Restoring my iPhone….again!!

Ok…well, I am in the process of restoring my iPhone again :( …this happens about every month or so which is understandable since I install and uninstall A TON of apps!! Still, it is such a sad feeling when you come the the realization that there is just nothing else you can do but restore. I can’t help but feel a little nervous as I hit the shift key and select version 1.1.1 when I go to restore…I always hold my breath hoping nothing goes wrong and I get upgraded to 1.1.2 (for instructions on how to restore without upgrading check out our f.a.q page). After it finally restores…I feel almost lost when I look at my stock iPhone…it is just so weird!! Stock iPhones are weird…well, at least after having a jailbroke iPhone. It feels so limited…yet even stock it was Gadget of the Year. Now…I’m headed to jailbreakme.com…I can’t wait to see the Installer.app icon again!!

New Apps – Xmas/Christmas Costume

Xmas Xmas and Christmas Costume are both available in the Installer.app through the Ste Packaging source. Xmas is an app by Erica Sadun and is similar to her other apps, Pirate and Halloween just Christmas style. The app allows you to take a picture and then add a Santa hat, beard, HO HO HO, Season’s Greetings and Happy Holidays to the photo. Just hold the iPhone up at someone like you are going to take their picture and once you have them on the screen tap “stop” and the image will freeze on the screen. Then move the Christmas attire around so the it is correctly positioned (you move the attire around by dragging it). When everything is perfect, tap “snap.” It will then automatically open an email for you to email the picture. You can then email the image. Christmas Costume is the exact same app only if you install it…it will add Xmas to the DressUp app…which already has Pirate and Christmas in it. That way you can have them all in one spot. Here are the screenshots:
