To ORTIZLGND: Oh, yeah, I totally agree with you. It’s not worth it to update at all. But I really want the new maps features, the custom springboard, the web clips, and the movie rentals might come in handy sometime, but I’m not thrilled about it or anything. My thoughts on it are… if someone comes out with a 1.1.3 Jailbreak (tested good) I will update and jailbreak my Touch again and do everything all over again. I know, it totally stinks, and I’m extremely disappointed about that, but it seems like the way to go considering Apple’s plans for future SDK. I mean… what if Apple comes out with the SDK in February and everyone will need to update (which is VERY likely)? I’ll be 3 firmwares behind by that point. I need to get going with this thing… I can’t keep using 1.1.1 forever.

To TIM: But if u upgrade to the new firmware (to get the rental ability) you’ll UNjailbreak your Touch. So, u’ll be giving up SO MUCH just to “rent’ movies for 1 day’s worth of viewing. Now worth it if you ask me.

Okay, this makes me pretty upset. Hackers should work on getting the new features onto installer. I mean, I’m not going to pay $20 for apps I already have along with a couple new features. All I want is the ability to customize my springboard (without going into customize) and I want the new Google maps features too. And I have no idea how I’m going to find a way to be able to view rentals on my Touch without paying $20. I might just give into the $20 update if I get sick of waiting. Hopefully hackers will think of something sweet.

This is a rip off. First of all, the new iPods are gonna come standard with the new firmware and thus, new features FOR FREE. So why should those of us who were so loyal to Apple that we purchased our iPods first have to be rewarded by having to pay an extra $20 just to have these 4 new apps? Additionally, the supposed Home customization is still somewhat limited when compared to a Jailbroken iPod with Summerboard, Customize, iSwitcher, and all the other customizing ( and oh, by the way, they’re FREE) apps available. And doesn’t currently allow all third-party apps. We’ll have to wait til February to find out what third-party apps Apple will allow ( Oh, and of course, for a fee). BUMP THAT! I’m happy with my Jailbroken iPod.
