Jailbreak for 1.1.3 is out for the iPhone (this doesn’t work on the iPod Touch yet…) and I will be live blogging my experience here at AppleiPhoneSchool.com. Once I have it figured out see our Mod/Hack page for steps to Jailbreaking 1.1.3!

Here is the link to iBrickr Special 1.1.3: http://devices.natetrue.com/iphone/ibrickr-jb113.zip

5:46pm – connected 1.1.1 jailbroke iPhone to XP Pro PC via USB cable & dock; syncing my iPhone with iTunes 7.5.8.20 (just in case…)

6:11pm – Updating iTunes to 7.6 (64.99MB)

6:22pm – PC Powers off during iTunes Download/Upgrade; restarting.

6:28pmSyncing to iTunes 7.6 (just in case…) Brooke just reminded me to check if iTunes actually upgraded, it did not. Trying again.

7:08pm – iTunes upgrade successful

iTunes update successful

7:10pm – backing up iPhone via winSCP and SSH

7:54pm – Hi! This is Brooke…Doug’s backup is taking FOREVER…but, he insists on doing it correctly!!

8:08pm – Sorry, I’m almost done, gotta have my NES ROMs!!!

8:38pm – Backup done, here we go!

8:39pm – Opps, forgot, backing up SMS Messages using SMSD.

Sidenote: I told Doug he was as slow as a turtle and he said…yeah, but the turtle won!! HAHA! :) Good story!

8:43pm – Downloading iBrickr Special 1.1.3 Jailbreak Edition from: http://devices.natetrue.com/iphone/ibrickr-jb113.zip

8:45pm – Extracting ibrickr-jb113.zip

8:47pm – Skipping Run as XP process for Vista…since we are already on XP

8:48pm – Running iBrickr

iBrickr

8:52pm – Clicking Check My Phone

8:53pm – Found 1.1.1 jailbroke iPhone…says my iPhone is ready…clicking Do It

8:55pm – Downloading Please Wait

iBrickr

8:57pm – Asking me if I have the 1.1.3 FW or if I need to download it…I am going to say I already have it already

iBrickr

8:58pm – Clicking on, Find 1.1.3 on Disk

Note: I previously downloaded 1.1.3 using iTunes but did not upgrade. The file is located in the – c:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\iPhone1,1_1,1,3_4a93_R.ipsw

9:04pm – Copying…Please Wait

iBrickr

9:07pm – Everything is ready…this takes 1G of space and 300MB of free ram on your iPhone…Clicking, Do You Have to Ask?

iBrickr

9:10pm – It’s going…nervous and waiting…

9:12pm – Clicking, Ready To Go

iBrickr

9:13pm – Says…This will take a while.

iBrickr

9:24pm – iBrickr is done…now going to Installer.app on the iPhone to install the 1.1.1 soft upgrade available through Ste Packaging

iBrickr

Soft Upgrade

9:29pm – Selecting Install

9:31pm – Something’s happing…

9:34pm – iPhone reset

9:35pm – iPhone is on…custom battery image has reset to stock, the custom slide to unlock text has reset, and custom carrier icon has reset. The Extended Preferences feature making the battery in the top right corner change to a percentage still works…not reset to stock.

9:37pm – Siding to unlock…

9:38pm – The how to edit the home screen pop-up from Apple appears. All icons are stock. Dock is stock. Four icons now instead of the five I had when I began the process. The Dock.app is not there – though it was before I started. I’m getting emails like normal. Installer.app is there!!! So are all my sources!

9:40pm – Testing wiggling icons…stayed tuned!

9:40pm – ICONS ARE WIGGLING!! Moving Installer.app to second page…worked!

9:41pm – We have heard that if you do not upgrade your Baseband Google location feature will not work…testing now.

9:42pm – Edge is NOT present…Google locate feature just spins, does not work. New feature…page peal works.

9:43pm – Although Edge icon isn’t present…Satellite view loads very fast…wifi is off.

9:43pm – Test Messaging – all texts are still in iPhone but custom chat bubbles are gone.

9:43pm – Calendar – all appointments are still there
Photos – all Photo Albums still there including Camera Roll with all photos that were there before jailbreak…even the 2 previous screenshots! LOL
Camera – Works like normal

9:54pm – Does not keep WiFi WEP code…entering now

9:55pm – YouTube – Works like normal
Stocks – Works like normal
Maps – Hybrid and location features do not work
Notes – All previous notes are still there!! YAY!
Settings – Contacts option has been removed from main menu…still available under Phone Setting. Edge must be working because there is send and receive data being shown. Under Phone Setting in AT&T Service option dialing codes for options now present ex) directory assistance – 411. Added International option under General Settings…though this was part of 1.1.2. The rest of the Settings are the same.

10:04pm – iTunes – New Redeemed button under downloads…for use of iTunes giftcards.
Phone – All contacts, recent calls, favorites and voicemails stayed. Custom dialer did not stay.
Mail – All mail stayed (two IMAP accounts with Gmail)
Safari – Instead of plus sign to the left of the address bar it is a magnifying glass which opens your search option. Plus sign (bookmarking ability) moved to the center of the bottom menu bar.

10:09pm – Testing Bookmarklet feature on Gizmodo.com.
iPod- All music and podcasts are there

10:18pm – Checking out the Installer.app

10:19pm – All previously installed apps show up in the Uninstall option in the Installer.app but, do not show up on SpringBoard. Note: this is why we created a backup…all apps that we had on our iPhone that are no longer available in the Installer can be added via OpenSSH.

10:21pm – Reinstalling BSD Subsystems

10:22pm – Receiving phone calls like normal. :)

10:32pm – Tried to uninstall Dock…got error “Main Script Execution Failed”

10:34pm – Tried to uninstall OpenSSH…got error, Tried to uninstall Stacks…successful

10:37pm – Cannot log into OpenSSH to try to manually remove apps

10:39pm – Attempting to Install TicTacToe…fresh install!

10:40pm – Installation successfully, icon on SpringBoard, application runs as normal

10:45pm – Just received long text message…now shows entire text message not just small portion and the options are close or reply instead of view or ignore.

10:52pmiSnake uninstall and reinstall works

10:57pm – Attempting reinstall of BSD Subsystems again… no effect on OpenSSH.

10:57pm – Attempting reinstall of NES…

11:12pm – skorpiond from modmyifone says turn off iPhone and back on after reinstalling BSD Subsystems…

11:16pm – Ok, I think I got it (Thanks modmyifone.com) If you have MobileFinder, uninstall it and reinstall, otherwise install it. Use it and delete LocalPackages.plist in private/var/root/Library/Installer/ and Reinstall BSD subsystem, and OpenSSH. I am in progress of trying this…..

11:28pm – I renamed my LocalPackages.plist to LocalPackagesold.plist just incase I need it… Installer now shows nothing installed but Installer itself!!!! OK, now for BSD Subsystems… again… and then DOCK!!! I want a screenshot!

11:37pm – Reinstalled BSD Subsystems… again… Turned iPhone off and back on….installing openSSH.

11:41pm – I have access! openSSH now functioning correctly. BossTool is no longer in effect… but all my old Applications are in Private/var/Applications and all new apps are in /Applications

11:48pm – I tried installing iSolitare from my backup by just dragging it into the Applications folder via SSH. Have to set the folder to permission 0755. Worked!

11:53pm – Installing Dock…

12:01pm – Dock works, here are before and after screenshots:

before after

12:08pm – Installed an app called Baseband Info from Installer.app. My Baseband Modem Firmware is 04.01.13_G and my Bootloader Version is 3.9_M3S2. This is why my Google Locater feature doesn’t work… Anyone know how to upgrade?

12:33pm – NES works :) Goodnight!

    :)

  2. is it for the iPod touch as well?

  3. @ Bob

NO! iPhone + windows only right now

  4. HI, I have an 1.1.1 Jailbroke Iphone with 04.01.13 Modem Firmware.
Every time i try to use the new version of iBrickr this message appears:

    “Not jailbroken
Sorry, your phone muat be jailbroken and have Installer.app installed to continue.”

    Any thoughts?

  5. To Exodus:

You probably need 1.1.3 firmware. Try updating, then use the jailbreak.

  6. How do you back up your iphone and will it keep the unlock on an unlocked iphone??????

  7. He is just copying his Settings files via OpenSSH…just in case he needs them later. It is not like a back up that you can go back to to rejailbreak your iPhone!

  8. Jonesyxxiv says

    To Exodus:

Im having the same problum. I think is you upgrade to 1.1.3 you wont be able ot jailbreak it (at least not now). Im not sure whats wrong. please help.

  9. Douglas, just out of interest what directories are you backing up?

  10. This will wipe all my applications, right?

  11. @Exodus & Jonesyxxiv…sorry, we are not that far yet…we will let you know what happens when we get there.

    @peter…he is backing up his:
    /private/var/root/Media
    /private/var/root/Library
/Applications (if you use BossTool – your Applications folder is in the private/var/Applications folder)
    /System/Library

But, he has a TON of apps installed!!

  12. oh thanks brooke do you think I should do that because i’m going to do this hack or should i just reinstall my apps??? (if that is what you meant)

  13. @Nitai…from what we know, it does not…at least it is not supposed to…though, we have heard a lot of different things. Stay tuned to see what we find out when we do it.

  14. @Hamo…he is making the backup via OpenSSH and just dragging the folders from his iPhone to his Desktop. If you do this you can then go back and get things like your NES ROMS, the levels you have passed in games, your games settings, any custom levels you have made for apps, if you have any accounts set-up with like iMoney…pretty much if you have to restore you can get your custom stuff back.

Really…he is a massive tech guy so, he like backs up EVERYTHING. If it was me…I would just be like; So, lets do this thing!

  15. thanks brooke yeah i wouldn’t spend time backin up things lol

  16. lets see some screens or a video… heh

Cant wait to hear your final analysis tonight

    Dave

  30. WOW!

    It’s working?

    I wonder if any-sim will work :)

  31. Shweet… now all I need is a version for iPod Touch. : P This stinks… you guys think it’ll be a while?

  37. Bong Callejo says

    Hi guys…

Will this work for an OTB 1.1.2 activated and jailbreaked, and unlocked with XSIM?

    Thanks

  38. how do you remove the 300mb consumed during installation of 1.1.3?

  39. Hey, I did the software upgrade and everything on my 1.1.1 jailbroken iphone that is being used on AT&Ts network. Now I can’t see any of my apps. Installer says I have them installed but they aren’t on my home screen so I can’t open them. What do I need to do to fix this?

  40. Hmm, can jailbroken 1.1.3 still use any kind of SIM if you’ve been using with your 1.1.1?

  41. @chetiboy….the file is in the var/root/media/softupdate.

@Chip…we are working on that right now…we heard you have to uninstall and reinstall them. Stay tuned!

@Everyone…the first thing you need to do is reinstaller BSD Subsystems!

  42. uninstall and reinstall? thats gonna suck. Hmm, do you think there’ll be a way around that anytime soon?

  43. thanks brooke!!!

  44. And my triangulation isnt working either.

  45. I’ve heard many people state they are having trouble uninstalling the old apps after upgrading. I’m wondering if it would be better to uninstall most of the apps before the upgrade is done (save the important apps like SSH and such).

    X

  46. yeah i’m with xious wouldn’t just be easier to uninstall most of apps before you upgrade

  47. HI if u upgraded ur iphone to 1.1.3 how can you downgrade it to 1.1.1 plzz help

  48. Brooke and Doug a question here that me and i’m sure alot of other people want to know do you reccomend us to jailbreak our phone wether it’s unlocked or not?????

  49. Hi, Great Posts,I just posted some screenshots of the process. http://bretlindquist.com

  50. I’d say hold off just for a bit, let me see what works and doesn’t work, let’s see if they figure out a fix for installer and my apps not showing up. I seem to have to uninstall and reinstall apps to get them to work… although I can’t get openssh to uninstall…
