iBirthday 1.2.3a

iBirthday I just installed the update to iBirthday 1.2.3a and after I updated the app I went to my SpringBoard to check out the new features however, when I select the app it open and then immediately closed again. So, I did the first thing I always do when something like this happens…uninstalled the app, restarted my iPhone and then reinstalled the app. After doing this, the app still did not open…so, I SSHed in and changed the permissions to writable and it STILL did not work…I’m totally bummed because I loved this app! Let me know if you are having the same issues or if it is working for you!

  1. I have 1.2.3 installed and it’s running just fine. I’ll have to update to the ‘a’ version and see if it changes anything. I didn’t really care for the text on the Springboard. It was a little too obtrusive and didn’t always disappear when I opened other apps.

  2. Yeah…let me know what you find out! But, I will be sad if you update and then it doesn’t work for you either!

  3. work great on fw 1.1.12 love the new thing that was add to the program 1.2.3a is work with no problem

  4. i want to use this app. but when i installed it, i dont get an icon on the springboard.
im on 1.1.3, inst it possible to run it or should i wait for an update?

    thx

  5. I talked to the Developer and this version of the app (1.2.3a) was created for 1.1.2…the previous version of iBirthday (1.2.1) was created for 1.1.1. So, if you have 1.1.1 don’t update to 1.2.3a…if you are on 1.1.2 this version will work for you….if you are on 1.1.3 I’m pretty sure it will not work for you yet. But, he plans on rewriting the app when SDK is released.

  6. SInce I am running FW 1.1.1 and I have no real need to upgrade, do you know where I coud find ibirthday 1.2.1 because it is no longer available through the author’s repository.

    Thank you

  7. i’m on 1.1.1 and updated ibirthday 1.2.1 to d lastest 1.2.3a it dosent work anymore, tried uninstalling n reinstalling , tried setting permissions but its not working, can anyone plz tell me the solution or link for the older wersion 1.2.1.
    thanks in advance

  8. I am on 1.1.3 and I installed it, did a chmod -R 755 iBirthDay.app, and I can open it up. The only problem I have is that there are no birthdays listed in the “BirthDay List”. So, technically it is not fully functional but if I find another directory that needs to be changed somewhere I will let you know.

  9. at what time and where did you do the chmod -R 755 iBirthDay.app??? Before you install, after you install and where do you enter the string???

  10. @leonie…you do the chmod -R 755 after you install the app. You can use an SSH program like WinSCP and then select all the files in the iBirthDay.app folder and then select properties and change the Octal to 0755.

  11. Great site…thanks for all the reviews…As for iBirthDay here’s what I did…

    – Install the app & quite Installer.
    – SSH into the phone & change permissions
    # chmod -R 777 /Applications/iBirthDay.app

    – Restart phone to get the icon to showup.

    – For the app to read the address book, create a symlink.
    # mkdir /var/root/Library/AddressBook
    # ln -s /private/var/mobile/Library/AddressBook/AddressBook.sqlitedb /var/root/Library/AddressBook/AddressBook.sqlitedb

    – Run the app. You should be able to see the BirthDay List.

That’s all I was able to figure out. I tested the app by adding a new contact and setting the birthday. I then went back to the app to try the alerts but nothing happened. No alerts or notifications…

If anyone can figure it out from this point, it’ll be great.

  12. I did the following after ln -s …………………………….

    1. cd /Applications/iBirthDay.app/
    2. chmod a+rx iBirthDay
    3. chown root iBirthDay
    4. chomd +s iBirthDay

  13. I cant even install ibirthday from the installer, im getting “error: Main script execution Failed!” anybody else have the same problem?

  14. I tried Kenny’s advice and that did the trick to bring up the Birthday List and see all the birthday entries I had made in my contacts. But, I also tried Moko’s advice and that did nothing. Hope there’s an update soon.

  15. I’ve removed the source from the Installer.app, then i uninstalled the iBirthDay 1.2.3 version from my iPhone, after that i restarted the phone and add the source again. Then in the Installer.app was displayed the 1.2.3a version of iBirthday to install, i install it but when i open it from the SpringBoard there was still 1.2.3 version of iBirthDay, and you gess it still does not work. No pop ups or any sound for birthday
I olso change the permissions to Library/LaunchDaemons and
/usr/local/bin/Birthday files to 755 and restarted the iPhone again and still nothing.

Again, i’m using jailbreaked, activated and unlocked otb 1.1.2 iPhone.

Some ideas for fixing this or any suggestions will be great. Thanks

  16. Hi Folks,

Any hints on when an update for 1.1.3 will be around?

    • There is actually a version of this app for 1.1.3…I haven’t had time to review it but, you could give it a shot. It is version 2.0.2 of iBirthday.

  17. Hi Brooke et @,

Just installed iBirthday 2.0.2 from Modmyapple.it:

    Current Version: 2.0.2
    Bundle Identifier: com.chiafa.iBirthday
Birthday Alert 1.1.2/1.1.3/1.1.4. Check BirthDay dates in AddressBook. Italian/English/French/German version.

Tried to do a lil quick test my creating an contact but no joy… Nor ring or txt on SB.. :\

Did anyone else with iPhone 16Gb 1.1.3 tried this?

    AtB,
    Choclas

    • Hi Folks,

All alarm bells ringing and windows poping…. It just seems iBirthday did nott like that my test contact did not have any other details besides Birthday… :\ After adding also a phone number all looked well…

Will see now over the next couple days how a “live” test will go ;)

      Cheerios,
      Choclas

    • Sweet…thanks for the update!!

  18. Hi,
