Version 4.6p1-2 of OpenSSH is available in the Installer.app through the Ste Packaging source. When you install this version you will get a little pop-up screen with the following information: “Please exit Installer and turn your iPhone off and on, after this update finishes.” This is what Ste has to say about version 4.6p1-2 of OpenSSH:
Nate reported that after jailbreaking it (1,1,4), Installer.app thought OpenSSH was still installed, even though it no longer was, and that he couldn’t uninstall it (main script execution failure). I have released an update to OpenSSH that anyone with this issue can update to. If you update to it before you jailbreak your 1.1.4 iPhone, then you should be able to uninstall it ok, via Installer.app, even though it’s gone, as it will now ignore the error it gets when it tries to stop the now-missing daemon. You can then simply reinstall it. If you already jailbroke it and can’t uninstall it, just upgrade to the new version and you’re all set to go. Nate says the root password is still “alpine”.
You can update OpenSSH even if you are not going to upgrade to 1.1.4. However, if you are going to upgrade (which is not suggested quite yet…Zibri sounds like he will have a jailbreak available in the next day or so)…you will want to update OpenSSH to version 4.6p1-2 before you do so.
Change Log for version 4.6p1-2:
* Fixed issue preventing it from being “uninstalled” when it wasn’t really there anymore, having been wiped out in a firmware upgrade.
* If you upgrade your firmware and can’t “uninstall” the old OpenSSH, just upgrade to this one.
* If you update your OpenSSH to this version before you upgrade your firmware, you should be able to “uninstall” this one afterwards, whereupon you can just re-install it.

Hi, im using the 1.1.3 firmware but i cant FTP my iPhone anymore… i upgraded from the 1.0.2 version, which i could FTP just with root & dottie..
I want to know if theres a problem with FTP and 1.1.3, maybe other people are having the same problem as i do.. Im doing exactly the same things i did with 1.0.2 in case someone wonders if im doing something wrong..
Ive also tried with alpine instead of dottie..
Has the password changed with the new firmware?

this sucks i also updated to ssh 4.6p1.2 and i cant access my iphone thru cuteftp .iv tried both passwords “alpine” and the new “dottie ” but i was unsuccessful . anyone else ? or is there anyway to downgrade it back to old version ?
Same problem happened to me. I tried reinstalling BSD, OpenSSH but didn’t work.
Finally I found a solution. I’m not sure if it works for you. Just take a try,
Reset your router.
ro: you need to use ssh ftp connection. not sure if cuteftp supports this, try use winscp or rushftp.
remember the ssh ftp setting.
i can not get sshd to start i have tried to start it manually using the term and when i run sshd i get sshd: no hostkeys available — exiting
i now there is something about the first time it will need to generate keys but if it will not even start then how do i connect?
All I did was reset the network connections on 1.1.4. firmware and then reinstalled the new OpenSSH and then it works, thanks! :)
I’m trying to ssh into my Itouch and every time I get the same error, “Network error: Connection timed out.” I’ve tried both pass codes dottie and alpine; reset the router and modem. I’m using:
Open SSH 4.6p1-2
BSD Subsystem 2.1
BossPrefs 1.73
in a iPod Touch firmware 1.1.4
I don’t know what else to do?
I cant seem to connect either. I’ve installed BSD 2.1 and OpenSSH 4.6p1-2 on firmware 1.1.4 on an iPhone 2G.
Wifi is enabled (since I am successfully able to use it to connect to my mail accounts, Safari, etc.), and I have the correct IP address.
When I try to connect (using any client – WinSCP, Putty, whatever), it always says “Connection timed out”.
Any suggestions?
