PocketTouch 1.0b

PocketTouch PocketTouch is a music controller made by the one and only Skylar. PocketTouch allows you to control your music with simple swipes, the best part is that you can leave it in your pocket while doing it. The biggest complaint with the iPod Touch/iPhone is that there is no external button in order to control your music. PocketTouch solves these problems in a different way. When you start the application, there is a bunch of settings. In order to start the magic, tap the “back” button. A nice swirl affect will take you to a black screen with “Pause” and “Now Playing” at the top. Tap the screen, and your music will start playing. Swipe your finger to the right, and you will skip to the next song, swiping left will take you to your previous song, swiping up will raise the volume, and swiping down will decrease the volume. When changing the volume, a volume meter will appear, this will be familiar for anyone who owns a Mac. In order to reverse all these settings go to the “setting” menu. Hold your finger on the screen for a second or two and it will take you to the settings. The reason Skylar made the screen all black is not because he is lazy, it is because he is brilliant. If there were colors on the screen, it can burn an imprint into the iPod screen if the application is kept on for too long. Having PocketTocuh totally black will prevent that from happening. I love this application, I can now listen to my music without taking my iPod out of my pocket. You can get PocketTouch from the iPod Touch Fans source. Check out the screen shots below.

  1. Also, you can customize this app, if you don’t like the all black screen. Navigate to the /Applications/PocketTouch.app directory on your device, and rename Black.png with any other (480x 320) image that you want.

  2. Uhm, at least for iPhone users: where’s the difference to the earphpne controller that comes with the phone?

    • Hmm i don’t have a controller on my earphones…? (Bought my iphone at home / in germany) So for me it’s a great tool.

  3. sweet. tip, you have to turn on your ipod first before you can turn on pocket touch…if not pocket touch won’t do anything.

  4. Having the Touch on for this app to work affects the total duration of your battery I must asume…

  5. It’s black because of burn-in concerns? Not likely. I would guess it’s for battery concerns. Grab a Kill-O-Watt and see how much electricity your LCD monitor or TV uses on an all black vs all white screen. LCDs don’t get burn-in either, as they don’t have phosphors to wear. They can experience “video memory” but even that is unlikely to happen. Here’s a nice article on LCDs and burn-in: http://www.techlore.com/article/10099/Do-LCD-TVs-Burn-In-/

Another reason to have it black instead of colored: with auto brightness on you’d have what would amount to a flashlight shining out of your pocket :p

  6. It would be of far more use if it would integrate in the “Lock Screen”. The same way iPod controls do or “Caterpillar” lock screen calendar.

It’s neat but not convinient as a standalone application.

  7. and besides, you lose the funky cool interface of the native iPod app. it would be nice if this could be integrated to run in the background whenever the iPod app is running.:)

after i install this really cool app(PocketTouch) it work beautifuly for about an hour,…. however after that the application crashed and so did the ipod app or music player. Apon restarting the apps i could no longer play the music neither with or without the PocketTouch app running. The tracks show up and shows as in play mode but is not playing. If you skip to next track then you can pause then hit play again but it doesnt actually do anything, no music acctualy playing and then you cant pause again anyway….

any help would be appretiated,… tips on what i can do to fix the error. i already tryed unistalling the PocketTouch and even reinstalled it again but the same problem keeps happening. please advise troubleshooting steps,….. do i have to restore to jailbreak 1.1.3 again and start from scratch or is there a quick fix. Please help :)

NEVER MIND……. i fixed it all you need to do if you get this problem after unistalling the app is go to settings/general/reset/reset all settings …… it works fine now u have to redo your settings and icon arrangment but no data was lost

  10. just click the home button twice while the ipod touch is locked. more useful than this app.

    • Yeah, but if your iPhone is in your pocket it is hard to know where the next and previous song button is. This way, you can just swipe your iPhone and go to the next/previous song. Much easier I think!

  11. any word about this app getting on the app store. I miss this one the most after upgrading to the 3g “non-jailbroken” phone.

  12. Where can I get it? App Store, Cydia or Installer?

  13. I have a similar issue with PocketTouch-
I was running 2.0.1 and it suddenly stopped working. I tried all the usual stuff, removed/re-install, restart, but no luck. so I upgraded to 2.1 and I have repeated the previous steps and it STILL wont work.

Basically, it will launch, the screen will go black, bt not dim, and I cannot control the music with the screen.

please help- i NEED this app! (well, it’s one of the main reason i jb everytime)

  14. I like PocketTouch but I would be glad, if instead of background there is the possibility to display the cover of the current song.

    Thanks to the developer.

    Greetings
    Thomas
