Wallpaper 2.0

Wallpaper I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for this update (ok, I really wasn’t that impatient Sean but, you did tell me you would look into it!). However, all I was expecting with version 2.0 of Wallpaper was a fix so the app would work with firmware lower than 1.1.3 (the last update, version 1.6, made it compatible with only 1.1.3 and above) instead I was greeted with some very cool new changes! The first change I noticed was a new icon…which totally threw me off, I was like…where in the world did the Wallpaper app go!! I seriously looked for it for like five minutes…then I had Doug look! But, I like the new icon!

The initial pop-up when you open the app has changed and now allows you to view the Wallpapers without sharing your Wallpaper! When you tap on a Wallpaper you would like to keep…you will see a few new options. You can set the Wallpaper as your Wallpaper (like before) but now you can add the wallpaper to a gallery, View Gallery and Flag a wallpaper. I love these new options. When you select Add To Gallery it keeps that wallpaper in a Gallery that you can then go back into by selecting View Gallery. In the Gallery you will get a thumbnail of all the Wallpapers you have added to the Gallery. You can then select a Wallpaper out of there and set it as your the Wallpaper on your iPhone. So, it is like a little storage area for all the Wallpapers you like!

The flagging option is pretty cool too. Flagging a wallpaper marks it as inappropriate and when you flag a wallpaper it actually makes the screen go black until it loads the next wallpaper. Even though you can no longer save the wallpaper to your Camera Roll…you can still get it off your iPhone if you would like. The wallpapers are located in the var/root/Library/Wallpaper folder for 1.1.3 and below and in the var/mobile/Library/Wallpaper folder for 1.1.3 and above. Wallpaper is available through the iApp-a-Day source. Below are the screenshots.

  1. Brooke, please separate your paragraphs so it’s easier to read. Thank you. :)

  2. I still don’t understand what does the FLAG option means…

    • It means “I recognise this image as a flag of my country”.

    • Flag means that you flag the image as inappropriate. That is why it makes the screen black until it loads the next image and hopefully sends some sort of info to the server so that after so many flags the image gets deleted!

  3. thats not what flag means

  4. i think it was better when you were forced to share your wallpaper

  5. allso, it would be cool if you could see how the icons would look ontop of those wallpapers. like, if there was a button to preview how the wallpaper would look with the dock and everything.

  6. Just downloaded it. Finally supports my 1.1.2 !
Cool app Got loads of new wallpapers! Thanks for the update Brooke.

  7. Wallpaper 2.1 is already out in i-app-a-day repository & Installer App.

  8. I like the update but ,the app need the feature of moving the wallpapers to CAMERA ROLL so people can assign those wallpapers or pictures to contacts

  9. I agree forced SHARE to enable participation.

Please can you add a feature to “auto save” all wallpapers to Camera Roll this will allow me to run in the background (without me constantly checking the screen) and I can quickly remove all ‘unwanted’ wallpapers – a bonus would be to eliminate duplicates…:)

    Great app otherwise.

  10. I’ve added previously, with Wallpaper, various wallpapers. When I call the Gallery, only some appears et some not. They all appear in the standard background changing option. Strange !

  11. Is wallpaper workin anymore?, i got the 2.2 version on a 1.1.4 iphone, it was workin fine a couple days, now it shows 1 background then flashes alittle bit to show me the same exact picture over and over, i tried uninstalling, reinstalling, same result? Anyone know whats up? I even downloaded the 1.1.4 compatability patch to see if it was a version problem, nope, same thing.

  12. I’m using Wallpaper version 2.3 and i can’t save any wallpaper and my gallery is always empty. Anyone has an idea what the point is ?
