New Poll! YAY!

It’s Poll time!! The last poll was – What are you more likely to use your iPhone for? Below are the results based on when we added it a little over a week ago.

Work (7%, 110 Votes)
Play (38%, 637 Votes)
Both (50% Work, 50% Play) (55%, 914 Votes)
Total: 1,661

I was among the 7% that said work! But, that is only because I am technically “working” when I am on my iPhone! :) You can still vote on this Poll in our Poll Archive page. You can also vote/view all the past polls on the Poll Archive page as well. Now, for the new poll:

  1. I guess most apps will be around the $4.99 mark for all of you in the US. Unfortunatly for me I am in the UK were they will probably be £4.99 (GBP) almost twice the price!

  2. Oh, I plan in charging for my apps. The only problem is that I can’t see Apple allowing any of my apps into the iTunes store.

  3. I would say $1.99 or less. If you can download a song for 99cents, why should an app be more than that? I would wish they were free, but people put a lot of time into programming and designing those apps. So I can see charging a small fee, but I will NOT pay for anything that’s that expensive *cough*Caterpillar*cough*.

  4. As an iPhone developer I have to ask all those who say that the apps should be free to please get in touch with me so you can arrange to volunteer some of YOUR time and expertise to benefit me.

    • I am with you. I think people forget the amount of work involved in making a good app. I think I’d like a few lawyers to take my case for free, graphic designers to make me a whole company identity for free, a few carpenters to rebuild my house for free. In fact, why did I pay for this phone in the first place? Shouldn’t it be free too?

  5. I can’t vote on the new poll. Keep getting told to pick an answer even though I have. Using Safari on OS X.

  6. Celtic Pride #17 says

Developers should charge what they feel is appropriate. The more time they spend on it and the better quality of the app calls for a higher price.

  7. i’d definitely pay up to $20 (probly more) for a really good/useful app, like any of zodttd’s emulators (but those won’t be allowed in the appstore obviously), or summerboard if we didn’t already have that, etc

  8. The overwhelming response for “free” in the poll is a bit worrying as a potential developer!

We need to pay a once-off $99 subscription as a Apple Developer.. we need to at least make that back! :(

  9. Personally if it’s something I can make use of I don’t mind paying a fiver ($10)

  10. If all the apps were free they would be very limited in my opinion. I don’t know if you saw Thank You for Smoking, but the one quote says a lot… “90% of all good or bad done in the world is to pay a mortgage.”

With that in mind, offering to pay at least a bit to developers gives them more incentive to work harder and create much better apps.

  11. If you sell 10,000 copies of your app at the $2 price you get $20k. But if by charcging $5 only 1,000 people bought it, you just lost $15k. And whether you like it or not you are competing against free.
