Restart/Respring apps available in Cydia

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

A good restart/respring application is a necessity on any iPhone or iPod Touch (at least if you are doing any sort of customizing or SSHing). So, I thought I would run through the options that are currently available on 2.0 via Cydia. As of now, there are four application that allow you to restart/respring your iPhone; iReboot, PowerTool, Respring and BossPrefs. All of these apps are pretty much the same if not exactly the same as they were in 1.1.4 and below…they have just been ported to the 2.0 firmware.

iReboot iReboot gives you the option to Reboot your iPhone which brings you all the way out to the boot logo screen or the option to Restart your iPhone which will bring you to the lock screen.

Palringo 1.0

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

Palringo
This instant messanger application connects you to many services including AOL’s AIM, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Gadu Gadu, ICQ, Jabber, Apple’s iChat and Windows Live Messenger. Not only does it support text based chat, it also supports sending images and voice messages. It puts all of your online contacts together with their service’s icon next to their name. It’s pretty simple to use although I type pretty fast and the keyboard lagged just a bit and caused some spelling errors.

The sound for a new message is sweet. It kinda sounds like the ringer on the phones at CTU on the TV show 24. It’s much shorter though and not annoying. You can switch through chat sessions via the little mailbox in the bottom left. You can change your away status in the bottom right. There is also the feature to create a chat group. I think it only works among other Palringo users. You can also get Palringo for your Mac or Windows PC. Visit palringo.com for more info. [Read more…]

AppFlow 2.0

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

AppFlow The update to version 2.0 of AppFlow does exactly what I was hoping it would do! You are now able to set applications as your Home Button double tap! Very cool! The update pretty much takes the features from xLaunch and adds them into AppFlow. When you tap on an application, you will get a menu with the options; Launch application, Assign to DoubleTap, Badge It and Cancel. You are able to assign any application to the double tap including App Store apps. However, you can only assign badges to Cydia/Installer apps and not App Store applications. Also, you can only assign the double tap and badge from the list mode. If you tilt your iPhone and go into the Cover Flow mode, when you double tap an icon it will just launch that app and does not give you the menu. I actually found the Cover Flow mode to be [Read more…]

Sketches 0.7b7

Available In: Installer       Price: Free

Sketches The update to Sketches 0.7b7 only has one change that I have noticed. You are now able to shake to erase your drawings. A few updates ago, that feature was removed, but it looks like they have added it back in! Other than that, I do not notice any visual changes to the application. Let me know in the comments if you notice anything. Sketches is available through the AppTapp Offical source.

Note: Available on 1.1.4 and below

HPCalc 2.0

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

HPCalc is basically the craziest calculator application I have seen yet. And, as with all my calculator reviews, I will do my best to describe it! I probably only understand about 5% of this application so those of you who are like calculator gurus, go easy on me! :) When you open the application, it will open to a landscape calculator. As if that calculator wasn’t enough, you can select the HP icon in the upper right corner and get quite a few more options. On the main options menu you have the options; Select Calculator, Preferences, Constants and Unit Conversion.

If you select the Select Calculator option you will see that there are four calculators to choose from; HP 11C, HP 12C, HP 15C and HP 16C. In the Preferences option, [Read more…]

MxTube 1.5a

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

MxTube MxTube has made it’s way into Cydia. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to see it so quickly based on a post written by the developer a few days ago saying that MxTube was going to be delayed due to a few bugs. It seems the developer has made a compromise releasing version 1.5a. It basically makes MxTube run on the 2.0 firmware…there are a few new feature but, it is not the full MxTube 2.0 version. The new features include; Background Downloader (which allows you to continue to download videos even after closing the application), Video Descriptions and the ability to watch videos in MxTube before downloading them. All of which are very cool new features!!

When you first open MxTube 1.5a, you will need to accept the License Agreement. From here you will get a donate pop-up and then be brought to the main page of the application. The overall application looks the same. You still have the options; [Read more…]

BreakClassic 0.9

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

BreakClassic is similar to breakout with a few cool features. When you open the application, you will get a splash screen with the option New Game. When you select New Game, you will then be brought to the play screen. At the top of the screen is your Current Score, HiScore and the Level you are on. At the bottom of the screen is the number of balls you have left. The object of the game is to break all the block by hitting them with the ball. To begin, touch the paddle. The second level is where thing start to get a little more fun. The blocks are colored and there are stars inside some of the block. If you hit a block that has a star, the star will drop as well. You get extra points if you are able to catch the start on your paddle. Another cool feature is that the ball and the smoke following the ball change color based on the last block it hit. As the levels go on you will get [Read more…]

NuevaSync

NuevaSyncFirst, NuevaSync is not an app in the App Store, Cydia or Installer. It is a website that hosts an amazing service. It takes your Google contacts and Calendar and creates a Microsoft Exchange service for you to connect to. Now I’m gonna warn you right away of two things. First, they will obviously have access to all of that info because it will be on their servers, so if you’re all about privacy this isn’t for you. Second, this will wipe all your contacts and calendar off your iPhone. You must sync your contacts with Microsoft Outlook or iCal and export them as a .CSV file and import them into Gmail if you want to keep them.

Now that your contacts are into Gmail just go to NuevaSync.com and setup an account. Then follow these instruction to set it up. [Read more…]

iTunes Update – Version 7.7.1

There is an update to version 7.7.1 of iTunes. To see the update, you can select Help in the iTunes menu bar and then Check for Updates. You will get a pop-up allowing you to download the 70.15 MB update which also includes QuickTime. According to the change log, the update, “includes fixes to improve stability and performance.” Hopefully we will see some faster sync time!

Updating iTunes will not affect your jailbreak or unlock.

iPod Touch Discounts (refurbished)

Rumors are, Apple is trying to dump stock of iPod Touches to get ready for a newer version. What will the new version bring? Larger storage, microphone, speaker, camera, GPS? The refurbished prices are $199 for an 8GB, $299 for a 16GB, and $429 for a 32GB. You can pick one up at Apple’s Website.

If you want more than just a rumor, many iPhone news sites are reporting the new 2.1 firmware has referance to the iPod Touch as “iPod2,1”. Currently it’s refferenced to as “iPod1,1”. Even better, the iPhone 1st Gen was referenced to as “iPhone1,1” and is now “iPhone1,2” for the iPhone 3G. You can see it was the second number that changed. With the Touch it’s the first number that changes. Let us know what you think all of this means in the comments.

AppFlow 1.0-1

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

AppFlow Yesterday, Erica released AppFlow via Cydia (for firmware 2.0). It is slightly different then the AppFlow from Installer and is a little closer to Xlaunch (only with out the feature we really want). AppFlow is basically another application launching app. When you open AppFlow, you will get an alphabetical list of all the application you have installer on your iPhone. If you tilt your iPhone into landscape mode, it will change to a Cover Flow style list. To launch an application, single tap when in list mode and double-tap when in Cover Flow mode. What I was hoping to see was [Read more…]

WinPwn 2.5

It seems that the developers of WinPwn are in the process of developing a new WinPwn that is, “a lot easier to use and should help a lot of people having issues.” I’m not exactly sure what that means…the current process seems to be decent. So, I guess we will just have to wait any see. They say WinPwn 2.5 will be released “very soon.” We will keep an eye out for it!

PegJump 1.0

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

PegJump is a very simple yet highly addicting game (that I can’t beat!!!). When you open the application, you will get an intro screen with instructions on how to use the app. To get into the game select Close in the upper left corner. You will then get a pop-up saying that you will need to select the peg that you want to start empty. Now, you will be brought to the game board.

The object of the game is to have no pegs left on the board. The first thing you will need to do is select the peg that you would like removed from the board…it can be any peg. Now, you can jump pegs to remove them. When you select a peg [Read more…]

Customize availabe on 2.0 firmware via Cydia

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Customize Now that Customize is available via Cydia, I deleted the Customize.app file I had installed via SSH and installed it through Cydia (which I recommend doing so that you will see all the updates for the app). Before I manually deleted Customize, I reset my iPhone back to stock. When I installed Customize through Cydia and then opened the application, I did get a pop-up saying that it was unable to reach the Customize servers. However, their entire website is down so that is just a temporary error until their servers are back up. Besides that, Customize worked great. The app opened the first time I opened it and I was able to change my dock, system strings, battery…etc with no problem. Once spicychicken’s servers are back up…you will be good to go! Time to start customizing!

Note: You will not be able to use the Theme Browser until their servers are back up. [Read more…]

Customize 2.1.1

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Customize I finally had a chance to sit down and take a look at the new Customize for firmware 2.0. At this time, it is still not available via Cydia and the only way to get it on your iPhone or iPod Touch is to SSH it in Customize is now available via Cydia. When I SSH’d Customize onto my iPhone, I had to go in and change the permissions of all the folders/files inside the Customize.app folder to 0755. Before I change the permissions the app just opened and closed (I tried to open it quite a few times before I changed the permissions).

So, once I changed the permissions, I was able to open Customize. From there I downloaded a few files and some themes. However, [Read more…]
