theyve killed the iphone really, without installer who would honestly buy it?

and the appstore?
does that really compare to the thousands of FREE apps in installer

i only bought my iphone because of installer
and now if i want the same thing without installer, 3g and 2nd rate gps i have to go completely out of my way for it.

ill pass
the new iphone doesnt even look as good as the old one anyway

The fact that they are asking for a Social Security Number is illegal, not to mention a load of crap. The Social Security Program is totally voluntary; not everyone has a S.S. number. Also, Federal Law dictates that only the Social Security office can and ask for this number and or use it as a database tracking number, which is what they seem to be using it for. The Social Security Admin., also states that a person’s S.S. number is not a valid form of identification and should not be used as one. I don’t know…this subject really pushes my buttons.

Everyone better look at the eligiblity for upgrade as of today or aleast before you go the cingular store. I look at my eligiblity on 1 July and it said that I was eligible for an upgrade. Well, looked today and it siad that I am not. Called customer service. The service rep said that 1 July I was eligible and as of today I was not. Could not give a reason why or anything. Kinda fishy to me. So, cingular and apple can keep the 3G phone.

seriously i know a lot of people who got iphones as gifts. now thats going to be near impossible. i think this is going to hurt sales especially around the holidays.

@ doug… they should just make you enter your imei number if you currently have an iphone or you social security number or something. it can be easily done… i cant even remember the last time a bought a phone in a store, im gonna be so stressed out about this

I really think that will be a huge issue. I understand that they are trying to crack down on unlocking the iPhone but what about Christmas? and situations like n0m0n described? I don’t think this will last for a while. I’m pretty sure that if we give a big enough roar maybe they can deal away with it. What about ebay people? How are they going to make a “decent” living selling those iPhones? I have a girlfriend and I want to really surprise her with the new iPhone but not a corny way. I like the old fashion way, nothing tells her that you love her like a nice dinner and a new iPhone (all gift wrapped, and not standing in a line waiting to check out)

I went into the local apple store and I asked that same question since my son is in collage and wanted me to get him one…

The answer was whoever is the account holder for that specific # needs to be on site to get the “1″ phone for that #.

PERIOD

They did not care that he is away due to collage, (many miles away) they did not care about any gift giving, they did not have any room for acceptations.

I do not want to misrepresent the attitude of the nice Apple rep…
He did close by saying: “SORRY, but that is the way it is, have a nice day”.

I hear Blackberry is coming out with a fully touchscreen device by the end of the year.
