Muddled is a word game in which you try to form words from scrambled letters. When you open the application, you will get the main screen with four difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, Hard and Extreme) and an “i” option. In the Information option you will get basic information on how to play the game and about the Muddled application.

Back on the main screen, once you have selected your difficultly level, just slide your finger where it says “Slide to Begin.” You will be brought directly into the game. The scrambled letters are at the top of the page. Your time and score are also displayed at the top of the page next to the letters. Your iPhone will quickly vibrate when you have only 10 seconds left. You can also pause the game by tapping on the timer. On the lower part of the screen are all the words that can be created with the scrambled letters. When you correctly create one of the words, it will flip over to display the word and the points for that word.

To create a word, just tap a letter which will drop it down into the word bar. You can also drag the letters down by tapping and dragging the letter to the word bar. You can rearrange the letters by dragging them around. You can take letters out of the word bar by dragging them back up to the letter scramble or by selecting the X icon (which will remove all the letters from the word bar). Once you have created a word, select the down arrow. If the word you created is in the list, it will display that word and put your letters back into the letter scramble. You can then create another word. If you get stuck, you can shake your iPhone and it will rescramble the letters…sometimes that helps! When your time is up, you will get a screen that displays your previous score, your score for this round and your new score. To play again, slide your finger where it says “Slide to Continue.” This will bring you back to the main menu where you will see your high score and can play again.

I personally like these types of games but, there are a few things I would change about this one. The thing that drives me crazy is that the letters look blurry!! Seriously, am I the only one who thinks the letters look blurry? Also, when you drag the letters around, the app can be kind of glitchy. I also have to question the Muddled dictionary. When a game is over, it will display what all the possible words were and some of them are just not words! Though, there are things I like about this application. It’s fun, it’s challenging, you can pause the game at any time and when you close and reopen the app…it automatically pauses your current game and then reopens it when you go back into the application. Overall, if you like these type of games…it is worth the $1.99 for this one even with it’s faults.
