It seems another application has been removed from the App Store. Erica Sadun’s Light, was officially removed from the App Store today. This was confirmed even further by Erica’s tweet, “RIP Light.”
The removal seems to be due to some hacking on Erica’s part. It seems that she hacked a little bit of code that allowed her application control the brightness of the iPhone. So, when you opened Light, it would force your iPhone to go to full brightness instead of the brightness that your iPhone was set at in your stock Settings. Then, when you closed the application, your iPhone would go back to the original brightness you had it set at. Although this is a feature that many of us desperately would like to have, it is against Apple’s rules to affect the brightness of the iPhone.

That is really too bad. I like Erica, and her apps.
REALLY glad I grabbed this particular update when I did! It is certainly a feature I wanted, and am glad to have!

She still has her light app on Cydia, works just as good as the original 1.1.4 version, except when you tap the screen, it blinks
There has already been an app on Cydia that also increases the brightness level. It’s called Flashlight and it works great.
ANy word on how apple is going to react when AppStore developers also have unapproved apps on alternate install vehicles?
I think technically they would also get bumped, but people are already going around this by naming things differently and claiming separate products. ( Look at the Pool website )
I still have that app…. which is great! I also noticed the app super bright, as bright as bigboss app on cydia, so I kept it. YAY!

Apple will end up with only their own apps. “this is against that, that is against this…” installer 4.0 must hurry up and save 2.0 users from the apple torture…
This is my favorite “FlashLight” app. I got the updated the day it came out and I was pretty pumped about not having to change my brightness anymore.

the way apple is behaving like a kid…i doubt if any good (required) apps will be on AppStore. i hope developers are able to port more and more apps to installer soon.
Yeah, I knew developers were not allowed to change the brightness of the screen and that why I hated all the light apps, but when I tried the update I was pleasantly surprised by the the auto brightness. I so glad that I have the app already. I don’t see the harm in adjusting screen brightness.
Disappointing… Apple is really finding ways to piss people off lately.
Luckily there it is still available via Cydia. I share your sentiments, apple is indeed pissing more and more people off lately, especially developers. It’s just the auto-brightness for crying out loud. I’d say just let us have what we want and stop policing the app store. Now I am just waiting for more jawdropping restrictions via the app store.
This is precisely why I’ve not upgraded from 1.1.4. Apple’s rules are too strict to allow the apps I currently enjoy. I’m gonna wait quite a while before I blow away all the apps I have, just to upgrade to an OS that might do half. :(
While I don’t agree with Apple’s actions in this case, there certainly have to be certain rules that all developers must follow, otherwise if everyone starts messing around with the OS it would lead to more instability and crashes.
I am glad they took that app off, no offense meant here. But there are a lot of bad apps on the App store, but Apple the self proclaimed champion of “perfection” in everything they do, puts these apps on its app store. When will they start taking these apps off the app store, and put only top quality apps.
Its stupid how the thing that made the app better than all the other flash light apps (beside being free) is the reason that it got taken off the app store.

Oh, for cryin’ out loud, Apple. Honestly, I just can’t figure what you’re thinking with your draconian rules and regs and your M.I.A. basic features. Maintaining the stability of the OS is clearly important but to disallow changing screen brightness??
