App Ratings Coming to Cydia

CydiaWe received a screenshot in our email this morning of a new feature coming to Cydia. Based on the screenshot, I’d say it’s a rating system for applications. This will be very nice. We don’t have screenshots of the actual page once you click on the rating but if we do, we’ll post those too. You’ll also see from the comparison screenshots below that there is a nice redesign which adds the apps icon, and some small icons to each selection like the email icon for contacting the author. Free WiFi at AT&T Hotspots Including Starbucks!

AT&T Rumor has it that people have been getting text messages from AT&T saying that their iPhone has free WiFi access at AT&T hotspots…including Starbucks. Well, this morning both Doug and I received that exact text message. If you click on the link in the text message you get a webpage with more info (see screenshots below). At the bottom of the webpage there is another link titled, “Get started with AT&T WiFi.” When selected, it gives you exact instructions on how to connect to the WiFi. So, we decided to check it out.

Do Not Touch Me – Status Bar Notifier Mod

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard Do Not Touch Me is a pretty cool status bar notifier mod. It changes the icons that normally show up on your status bar to words (mail, sms and call). It also adds icons to your lock screen notifying you that you have a missed call, text or an unread email. The mod comes in both white and black and is activated via WinterBoard. If you are not a huge fan of the lock screen wallpaper that comes with the mod, you can choose User Lock Background in WinterBoard and move it above Do Not Touch Me and it will use your wallpaper instead of the wallpaper that comes with the mod (see screenshots below).

RemindYou 2.0

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free Trial then $9.95

RemindYou Many of you may remember RemindYou, a lock screen calendar app, from firmware 1.1.4 and below. It seems the app has made it’s way to the 2.x firmware. However, this time I can actually get it to work which is nice because with firmware 1.1.4 and below we could never get this application to work for us. When you open the application, you will get a list of Settings. Here you are able to change things like; font, font size, font color, 24 hour time, dim wallpaper…etc. However, I can’t seem to get a few of the settings to work. Any setting with an arrow next to it will not launch. This includes; Font, Font Color and Registration. All of the other Settings work just fine.

iSpazio DockFlow

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard iSpazio DockFlow is a mod that I noticed last night. It changes your dock icons giving them a cover flow look. It actually looks pretty cool however, there are a few restrictions with it. You need to have a five icon dock, the icons have to be specific icons in a specific order (Safari, SMS, Phone, Mail and iPod) and you cannot use it with other mods such as Stack. But, if you are willing to deal with these restrictions is does look pretty cool. Once installed, you will need to activate it via WinterBoard.

QuickUnlock 0.1

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

QuickUnlock Today a new mod was released (via ModMyiFone) called QuickUnlock. Don’t be confused, they’re talking about Lock Screens, not GUI SIM Card unlocks! What it does is it allows easy access to your springboard by simply tapping the Home button 3 times consecutively. When you tap it 3 times, it temporarily shows your springboard for 10 seconds (unless the Home button is tapped again or an app is launched) and locks again. It installed easily and works like a charm. The only concern is you have to press the Home button pretty fast to trigger it. This is a great mod to use when you quickly have to access something.

SBSettings I did a post with a preview of SBSettings a about a week ago and it seems that it is now available via Cydia. You activate the application by swiping on your Status Bar (that is the bar at the top of your iPhone or iPod Touch that have the time, carrier logo, battery…). This will bring up SBSettings. The upper part of the menu are features of SBSetting the lower part of the menu gives you information about your iPhone or iPod Touch. Google Earth for the iPhone and iPod Touch

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

Google EarthGoogle Earth is now available in the App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The application works great, even on EDGE. Zooming and panning works like the Google Maps app but with Google Earth you can even tilt to adjust angle. In the top left corner there is a search icon which allows you to search near you or anywhere else in the world. The top right has a compass that shows the direction; tapping it returns you to North being at the top. In the bottom left there is a button for your current location. The button in the bottom right gets you into the settings where you can turn on and off options for Wikipedia, Panoramio, borders, autotilt and others.
