Removing Uncategorized Icons from SpringBoard

AiS If you installed a theme called, iGreenic, then you probably have 12 Uncategorized icons on your SpringBoard. The only issue I have found with this is that it is basically impossible to remove these 12 uncategorized icons!! I tried deleting them and they just returned. I tried uninstalling the theme and that didn’t work. They even returned after I restored my iPhone! So, I did some research and found out what the deal was. I thought I would pass it along in case anyone else is having the same problem.

The icons are actually webclips and in order to remove them, you will need to ssh into your iPhone or iPod Touch. You will then want go into the var/mobile/Library/WebClips folder. In there you will see files with very long titles made up of letters and numbers. You will notice that 12 of them have basically the same file name except for the last number. Ex) E0E1221545BF41C7899B499EFFB09E91.webclip, E0E1221545BF41C7899B499EFFB09E92.webclip… If you open these files they will contain only an icon, which when previewed is blank. My files went from E0E1221545BF41C7899B499EFFB09E91.webclip to E0E1221545BF41C7899B499EFFB09E997.webclip. So, just delete those 12 files off your iPhone and then respring your SpringBoard…voilĂ  they will be gone!

  1. Thanks! I got those things after installing BlacRay theme and have wondered how to get rid of them. They are all gone now! :)

  2. Thank you so much! I got a bunch of these indesctructible blank web link icons when I installed the clock widget before updating to 2.2. After updating I could never remove them, and when I tried I’d get the mysterious grey Springboard in Safe Mode. Thanks again!

  3. WOW it worked. I have been waiting for this. Every time I pressed on an empty space on the spring board safari opened. This solved that issue.
    Thanks

    • BTW: I used iphonebrowser (WIN) to delete the folders. This allowed me just to browse the phone through the USB.

  4. Wow thanks!

In my case though, the files (or actually folders with files in them), were called Blank, Blank1, Blank2, Blank3… to Blank15 and were located in \var\private\stash\applications

Dont know from wich app I got them, have been installing so much lately.
    However, thanks!

  5. THANX A MILLLLLLIONNNNN….YOUR A LIFE SAVER !

  6. Hey guys!!! I am facing the same problem like many of you! But the thing is… This happened after I restored my iPhone, (the purpose is…. I don’t want jailbreak anymore) I found out that many of these icons pop out! So I been researching and found this page! But the main problem is…. I just downgraded my iTunes from 8.2 to 8.1.1…. And when I plugged in my iPhone, (Obviously having quickpwn installed) quickpwn can’t seem to detect my iPhone! I been restoring a couple of times! But it did not work!! I am on a mac by the ways… iBook G4 that is….

  7. What he doesn’t mention is when you SSH into your phone, you need to go under the username “root” instead of “mobile”. The passwords will be the same, but “root” will actually allow you to delete the icons while “mobile” gives you a “permission denied” error. Just got rid of 90 blank icons…man that was getting old.

  8. I have a problem with blank icons too… I installed a bunch of them on my last iPhone (for theming purposes) and now I’ve restored my new one with the old one’s settings all the blank icons are still there (even without jailbreak :-/ )…. I delete them manually and they just re-appear (like 8 pages of them)… .pretty annoying.

how can I get rid of them on an unjailbroken phone? (IE: no SSH)

  9. This absolutely worked for me! It had been a problem for almost a year on my iPhone 4. Many thanks
