slydial is an application that allows you to call directly into a person’s voicemail. slydial is not a new service and is actually one that can be used on any phone by calling into 267-SLYDIAL (267-759-3425). However, the syldial application makes the service easily accessible on your iPhonel
Once you have installed slydial via the App Store, all you need to do is open the application and then select whether you would like to choose a number from your Contact list or just enter a phone number. Once you have either chosen a number or entered a number, you will hear the number dialing. It will then say that slydial is connecting you to the person’s voicemail. The next thing you know, you are listening to the person’s voicemail recording! It is really that simple…you do not need to sign up for an account or enter any of your personal information. It is a free service however, it is only available for U.S. mobile phone numbers. Below is more
The thing I like about the iPhone application is that you do everything on your iPhone. If you call into the syldial phone number, you have to know the person’s number that you would like to call because you have to enter it in. On your iPhone, you can choose a number from your contacts and then not worry about a thing and just let the app do all the work.
I have found that if you use the service frequently, you have to listen to a short advertisement before it connects to the person’s voicemail that you are calling (but, that is what you get with a free service!). I tested this application on people with three different carriers (Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile)…it worked on all three carriers. However, I had one person say that when I called them using syldial, their phone rang once and then acted as if I had hung up and then they received a voicemail from me…even after multiple tests (they use T-Mobile). But, I had another person say that their phone did not ring but just showed they had a voicemail from me (this was an AT&T customer). I personally would prefer that it did not ring once before going to voicemail.
Overall, the application is very simple and easy to use. It worked exactly like it was supposed to with no problem. The rest of the issues (listening to ads and one ring before going to voicemail) can most definitely be blamed on the slydial service and not the slydial application. I personally find this app to be very useful and one that I will keep around for those times when I just want to leave a message…you know what I’m talking about! :)
