iTunes Gift Card for Christmas?

iTunesSo, I can see that a lot of you are getting iTunes Gift cards for Christmas. Just some quick tips. They can be used for both apps and music, not just music. You can also redeem them right on your iPhone, not just in iTunes. In iTunes on your computer you just click “redeem” on the top right hand side of the iTunes Store. On your iPhone, open iTunes, not the App Store, and tap the last tab, “Downloads”. Then tap redeem in the top right corner. Just type in your code and tap redeem. Close iTunes, then open the App Store and close it. It should prompt you for your iTunes password. Once you enter it, it should start downloading.

This also works for free promo codes from developers. Also, remember that when you buy a song or application, all other iPhones on the same account can download them for free. This is a great way to share the cost of a game your brother or sister might also want. If you have any other questions on how this all works, please let me know! [Read more…]

Merry Christmas!

ChristmasMerry Christmas to all of our readers! I hope you’re having a great day! We’d love to hear what you got for Christmas today, especially if it’s an iPhone, iPod Touch, accessories or iTunes Gift Cards. Of course let us know if it’s not iPhone related too. I got an upgrade on our video editing software so look for better videos from us in the future.

iPhone Nano?

AppleOk, here we go again with the iPhone rumors. xskn.com now has cases for sale for the iPhone Nano. Sites all over the web are writing about the iPhone Nano. Here’s the picture from their site. Let us know what you think!

Macheist.com iPhone App Give Away

EnigmoMacheist is giving away free iPhone apps for their Christmas promotion. Go to givingtree.macheist.com and watch the Christmas tree for free apps! Apps just show general info and link to the App Store in iTunes as they grow bigger but once they get full size they will start to wiggle. That’s when you click on them to see if you’ve won. So far I haven’t won any but I will post here once I have.

On another note, please excuse my previous version of this post. I thought that they were giving away a free version of Enigmo 2 for the iPhone tomorrow. It seems that it’s just for the Mac and not the iPhone but it’s still free! Thanks to Stevey101 for catching this for me! Sorry about that!

Snapture Flash – External Flash for the iPhone

Snapture Yesterday, we heard news that the developer’s of Snapture, a camera enhancement application, have designed a flash for the iPhone called SnaptureFlash. The product is currently still a prototype as they look for funding for the product. But, it definitely looks promising. I personally would love to see the release of this type of product. There are times when the iPhone’s camera just doesn’t cut it in low/no light. Gizmodo had the opportunity to get there hands on one of the prototypes and has a nice article about it. You can check it out HERE. Below are the product specs and some screenshots of what the SnaptureFlash looks like. For more info about SnaptureFlash check out their website.

Updated F.A.Q Page – How to add sources to Cydia.

AiS Well, after a long night of travel last night, we reached our destination. So today, with a little bit of down time before all the Christmas craziness begins, I have updated another guide on our f.a.q page. It is a detailed guide on how to add sources to Cydia. This includes step-by-step instructions on how to install additional sources using Cydia and how to manually add your own sources to Cydia. You can check out the How to Add Sources to Cydia guide HERE. If you are looking for more source…check out our Sources Page. It contains a list of sources available for both Cydia and Installer.

PictureDialer – Picture Speed Dial

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

Picture Dialer Sick of looking through a list of names to find the person you would like to call? PictureDialer allows you to dial by photo! The first time you open PictureDialer, you will get a pop-up with a quick note on how to use the app. The first thing you will need to do is go into the Settings options (tap on Settings in the lower right corner of the app). This will bring you to the main list of setting options. Next, you will want to add people to your Favorites list by selecting the Favorites List option. This will bring you to a list of your favorites…to add a favorite to the list, select the + icon in the upper right corner. You will then get a list of all your contacts. You can select a contact and then select which number you would like to use for that contact. Once you have done this, the contact will be added to your Favorites List. You can also delete contacts and rearrange your contacts from here as well. Note: To rearrange contacts, tap and hold the three little bard to the right of the contact and drag it where you would like it. [Read more…]

New Poll – What are some of the main reasons you come to Apple iPhone School (choose as many as apply)?

AiS Normally I put last weeks poll results and the new poll in the same post however, this week’s poll is a little different than normal. Every once and a while we do a poll in which we would really like to get some feedback about AppleiPhoneSchool.com itself. This week is one of those times. We are getting closer and closer to launching the new site and would like to make sure that we are giving you guys what you want! So, below is this weeks poll. We would love to see your feedback…feel free to leave any additional information in the comments.

Note: This is not the long survey that Doug talks about in our Video Podcast…he will be launching that later, it much more detailed!!

Another Note: You can choose as many answers in the poll that apply to you.

Last Weeks Poll Results

AiS Time for a new poll. The last poll was – How often do you use the YouTube application on your iPhone or iPod Touch? Below are the results based on when we added the poll a little under a week ago.

At least once a day. (9%, 93 Votes)
At least a couple, or more, times a week. (14%, 149 Votes)
Maybe once a week. (14%, 149 Votes)
Maybe a few times a month. (20%, 224 Votes)
Hardly ever. (32%, 350 Votes)
Never. (11%, 121 Votes)
It is turned off on my iPhone or iPod Touch via the Restrictions settings. (1%, 7 Votes)

Total Voters: 1,093

I personally do not use YouTube a ton…I was actually one of the 350 Hardly Ever votes. I did this poll just out of curiosity and I thought it would turn out much differently than it did! I honestly thought there were be a lot more votes in the At least once a day and At least a couple, or more, times a week categories. So, interesting poll!

Letter from saurik

As many of you know, saurik (Jay Freeman) is the developer of Cydia, WinterBoard and Cycorder. He recently responded to a comment informing everyone of what he has been up to, things he is working on for Cydia, WinterBoard and Cycorder and how a few other projects are coming along (iPhone Binary Toolchains, Non-Objective-C Languages). Below are a few clips from his response “letter.” You will want to check out THIS link to read his full response. [Read more…]

F.A.Q Page – How to Install an Application using Cydia.

AiS I added another guide to our f.a.q page. This is a very basic guide on how to install applications using Cydia. I will continue to add more guides on how to use Cydia as I update the f.a.q page to be more firmware 2.x friendly…not that all those Installer guides aren’t useful! :)

Supreme Preferences – Adds Additional Settings Options

Supreme Preferences Supreme Preferences is an application that adds additional functionality to your Settings options (similar to Extended Preferences). WinterBoard Mods

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard Below are a few cool WinterBoard mods. The first two mods are themes. Red Art (via iSpazio) is a cool theme but, it only contains about 19 icons which do not include App Store, iTunes or Cydia. But, if you are ok with only modding a few icons…then you might like Red Art. Electric Blue (via modmyi) a theme that is basically made up of clear icons and a wallpaper. What I like about the theme is that the icons are unique…I have not seen transparent icons like the ones in this theme before. I did find that the theme looks the best with the Transparent Dock, No Undocked Icon Lables and No Docked Icon Labels options turned on in WinterBoard. [Read more…]
