SpinBoard Preview – Rotating SpringBoard Icons
Here’s a preview of a new hack coming to the iPhone. It allows your icons to rotate when you rotate your iPhone based on your accelerometer. The features are limited and it’s in the very beginning stages. We’ll keep you informed as soon as it’s released! Here’s a video preview (sorry for the poor quality, this was streamed from my iPhone):

The Dev Team has released PwnageTool and QuickPwn (for both the Mac and PC) 2.2.5. Below gives you the general idea about the jailbreak for firmware 2.2.1 but, you will want to check out the Dev Team’s website to see all the info (there is a lot more) and to get the links to the jailbreaks.

CallCounter is an application that allows you to view your call information. This application is very similar to SMSCounter only with call stats instead of SMS stats.
When you open the application, you will get the main screen. Here you have a few options: Date, Call Type, Person and Call Count. The application defaults to one month, all calls (both incoming and outgoing), from everyone and then gives you your total. However, If you select the Period option, you are able to change the To and From date. If you select Message Type, you are able to choose All calls, only Incoming calls or only Outgoing calls. The Person option allows you to choose a specific person. The Count Count displays the hours and minutes you have used based on the options you have selected. Read more
Buuf Live Time Theme – WinterBoard Theme

I know many of you are fans of the Buuf theme that is available via Cydia. The only downfall with themes lately, is that if you like to use the LiveTime mod (updating Clock icon), you end up with a stock clock icon in with the rest of your themed icons. Well, the Buuf Live Time Theme allows you to have the LiveTime mod with the Buuf clock icon. In order for it to work properly, you will need to have the Buuf Live Time Theme, the LiveTime mod and the Buuf2 theme all activated in WinterBoard…in that order! Read more

Autolock is an add on for SBSettings that allows you to toggle the autolock feature on your iPhone. It controls a setting in your Settings App that locks your iPhone after a predetermined amount of time to conserve battery life. Just search for Autolock SBSettings in Cydia, install it and it will be a new option to toggle in SBSettings. Of course you will need the SBSettings App for this to work. If you want to know more about SBSettings see this review.
QuickTip – Save Images from Safari
Once again, sticking to my Safari theme, below is this week’s QuickTip. If you have a QuickTip you would like to submit you can email it to QuickTip@appleiphoneschool.com
QuickTip – When in Safari, you are able to save images from a web page to your iPhone. When you are on a web page, you can tap and hold your finger on any image within that web page and save that image to your iPhone’s Camera Roll. When you hold your finger on an image, you will get a pop-up with the options to Save Image or to Cancel. You will also notice that the image has been highlighted in the web page so you know exactly what is being saved to your iPhone. When you select the Save Image option, that image is then saved to your camera roll…just go into your stock Photos application and select Camera Roll to view the image. This works with any image within a web page be it a photo, a logo, a graphic…as long as it is an image. Overall, a great feature that allows you to email, twitter, or save images for future reference. Read more

How fitting that my 10th review for the “School” is a math game? If you’ll recall, it was just over 3 weeks ago that I submitted my first iPhone app review of Math Sticker, a simple game that tested one’s math reasoning skills. Well, here we go again with a math game, this time a rapid-fire touch app involving simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems.
Overview
The game is simple: identify as many math problems as correct or incorrect in either 30 or 60 seconds. You can choose what types of problems are allowed (addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, powers), how long the game is (30 or 60 sec), and whether to have sound on. From the main menu, you can also view your personal stats as well as connect to PumpkinPulse.com to view the high scores of everyone (all 10 of us) playing Math Mania. Read more
WeatherIcon 1.5.3 – Updating Weather Icon

OK, I have held off on writing about this app for a few days because it was getting updated so frequently and I wanted to let a few updates pass before talking about it again. I will say, the updates have made using this application much easier than in the first few version of the app…you can check out that article HERE. So, lets talk about what the app looks like now.
I have good news for those of you would are not big on sshing into your iPhone or iPod Touch…you can now successfully use this application without the need to shh. The weather information is now pulled directly from the weather info already on your iPhone…so, no need for ssh. This also means that the temp on your weather icon will mach the temp displayed inside your stock Weather application…which is nice. Read more
Diagnostics – Test Your MFLOPS

Ever since converting from a Windows Mobile device, I have been extremely impressed with how well the iPhone handles the opening and closing of so many different applications. With all of my previous Windows devices, I would always have to perform a soft reset every so often, and the more programs I installed and opened, the more frequently these soft resets were required. Since owning the iPhone, I’ve performed only a handful of resets (power off/on) and I can easily go weeks without ever shutting down the phone. Thus, I’ve wondered what exactly is going on under the hood, so to speak, with the iPhone.
Overview
With Diagnostics, you get a quick snapshot of how your iPhone is performing, as the application relies on a single measurement called MFLOPS (Mathematical Floating Operations Per Second). While I’m no computer expert, a quick Google search reveals that MFLOPS is a common benchmark used to measure a computer’s performance power, though there is some disagreement among experts about the relevance of such a measurement. The Diagnostics app takes about 30-45 seconds to measure your MFLOPs, and gives you a reference for what is considered to be a normal value. Read more
wigglefree – Stop Your Icons From Wiggling – Now Available via Cydia

A couple of weeks ago, Doug wrote about how you could stop your icons from wiggling via a download file and some ssh work. Well, it seem the developer has made things a little easier by releasing the app via Cydia. The process is simple and easy, just install the application and no more wiggling icons! This means that when you tap and hold an icon so that they can be moved around your SpringBoard, they will no longer wiggle.
This application is not activated via WinterBoard, it just automatically installs and activates. If you would like your wiggling back, just uninstall the app via Cydia. Read more
Hotmail on the iPhone (in some countries)
Ok, here is the deal. I have been hearing about Hotmail on the iPhone (and receiving emails about it) for a while now. I put off writing about it because I could not personally test it. However, mattyb123 from our forum, has written a nice tutorial so…I thought I would pass it along.
It seems that Microsoft Hotmail Live now supports POP3 Technology however, it is limited to a few countries including; Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. You can check out Microsoft’s blog entry about rolling out POP3 for more info! On a side note, it seems that they will continue to make the POP3 technology available for other countries as the year progresses.
Below is mattyb123’s tutorial on how to set it up on your iPhone…for those of you which it is available. Read more
