QuickTip – Auto Scrolling in Safari

AiS One of the main reasons we purchase an iPhone is because of the amazing ability to browse the web on a portable device. You have to admit…nothing does it better! Here is a QuickTip that may make browsing even more productive.

QuickTip – When in Safari, you can tap on the Status Bar (this is where the time is displayed on your iPhone) to auto scroll to the top of a web page. This is great for those times when you are reading a long article and then need to go back to the top of the page to go to the next article or to get back to the Search Bar.

Let us know in the comments if you have a specific way/time when you use this feature.

  1. this pretty much works in about any app. like Text and facebook and pretty much were scrolling is possible.

  2. Quick-tip – You make it sound like this is a new feature. I’m sure it’s good news for iPhone noobs. This is very old “news”.

    • You’re right, this is old news. What we’re doing is writing a nice collections of tips and then we’ll have a random tip widget in our sidebar in the future. We’re trying to appeal to both the iPhone noobs and iPhone elite!

  3. i like these tips. thanks!

  4. Awesome!!!

  5. Yes, this tip pretty much works on 99% of the apps since firmware 2.0, and I’ve been using since I upgraded from 1.x. I would like to see a shortcut to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page too =)

  6. I don’t think there is a fast way to get to the bottom of a page, believe me, I’ve tried. I especially wish there was a way to scroll down to the bottom of a page because making an On-The-Go playlist is so annoying having to scroll down the list without ANY shortcuts.

  7. quick tip – sliding finger where is says slide to unlock gets u to a magic screen with icons!

  8. Scroll to end (and other usefull tools):

  9. Here is a quick tip… how about putting a search on your website so that way we can look for things like different themes and stuff… that cydia has to offer.

    Thanks

    Stan

    • There is (and always has been) a search on both our normal and mobile site. Both are located in the upper right corner of the site.

I use it in my iPod
Works well when I have to scroll from #’s to like A or B
    :>

  11. isnt there any way to scroll to complete bottom with one tap?

Hey just had to say that you guys totally rock and kick serious butt! Keep doing what you do, cause you do it well.

  13. This is really annoying when you have SBSettings installed, not a good feature for me.

  14. I didn’t knew this feature. Thanks for this tip.

What about going to the end of a page like this? I use Safari+ (bookmarks with javascript)

    • Ok, I just followed the instructions for doing the “scroll to end” in Safari+ (bookmarks with javascript), but how do I use it (the bookmark) when I’m in a webpage and want to scroll to the bottom?

  15. In terms of scrolling to the end, the only way I’ve found out how to do it, is a weird glitch, in when the page is just loading, if you’re seeing the checkered background for a bit, if you double tap the bottom, it’ll load the page all the way to the bottom. Problem is, sometimes the page loads too fast and you’ll miss the opportunity. I too would like to see a future version of touch safari with an end of document scroll feature. It makes it hard to read a multi webpage document and you want to skip over things you’ve read before.

  16. Thanks for the tip. I tried it in Mail and it worked there as well. Great for getting back to the top of a long e-mail so I can mark it as unread if I didn’t get it finished.

  17. I bought my son an iPod Touch for Christmas. But it seems that the automatic scrolling is locked on. It goes off on its own very quickly. Switches between things, you can’t finish a text, it just moves off the screen to something else. HELP!!

  18. Does the webpage scrolls automatically when we tilt the device?

  19. At this time it looks like Expression Engine is the preferred blogging platform available right now.
(from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using
    on your blog?
