ClearCam – A Camera Enhancement Application

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free 15 day trial – $9.99

ClearCam ClearCam is a camera enhancement application. The application description reads, “Take sharper, 4 megapixel photos with less noise using advanced image processing.”

When you open ClearCam, you will notice that it brings you directly to the main screen. At the bottom of the screen, you have a few options. The lock icon, when selected, will allow you to begin a free 15 day trial or allows you to purchase the full version of the application ($9.99). To try out the app free for 15 days, select the Begin a free trial option.

Now, you will notice that there is a QuickShot and an Enhanced option at the bottom of the screen. The QuickShot feature, when selected, will take four consecutive photos (it takes less than 2 seconds to take all four photos). It will then automatically save the best of the four images to your iPhone’s Camera Roll. The Enhanced option, when selected, will take six consecutive photos (this takes 2.5 seconds). It then saves those six photos in the Photo Queue within the application. You can get to the Photo Queue by using the File icon on the bottom of the screen (it’s the icon all the way to the right). Here you will find a list of all the photos you have taken using the Enhanced feature of the application.

When you select one of the photos options from the list, you will be able to view all six images that were taken. Each images can be zoomed or rotate using two fingers…it is a multitouch interface. To get to the next image, tap next to the dots at the bottom of the screen. At the bottom of the screen, you will also notice another option…it looks like the email icon. This option allows you to save any of the six images to your Camera Roll or allows you to jump to the sharpest of the six images.

Ok, now how to use the actual Enhanced feature. At the top of the page you will notice an Align option. When selected, this options apparently stacks all of the images on top of one another. Once the images are aligned, you are then able to choose Enhanced. This than sharpens the image and creates a 4 megapixel photo (according to the developers). The enhanced photo is added as a seventh image on the page. One cool feature is that you can switch back and forth between the Original photo and the Enhanced photo so that you are able to see the difference between the two. You can then save the enhanced image to your camera roll. Also, it will align and enhanced only what in one the screen. So, if you zoom in on something in the photo…it will align and enhance only that part of the photo.

When I tested this application, I had one photo in which the enhanced feature worked really well however, with the other photos, I honestly didn’t see a huge improvement in the quality of the photo once it was enhanced. I also had some issues with the app crashing though, I was taking screenshots and testing the app so…it could have been my fault. You will have to let me know in the comments what you think of this app and whether or not you are going to purchase it.

    wow

it really does make a difference!

hopefully Apple will release an application like this (but theres like a 2% chance of that happening :P)

  2. I can’t download it. It says “Size Mismatch”. It’s too much money anyway. It flies in the face of the spirit of jailbreaking.

  3. DJ BROTHERSON says

Yeah, almost everything I try to install from Cydia today is giving me “size mismatch”

  4. Haven’t tested it yet but I don’t think I’ll buy it, I think Snapture is good enough and the 2 mp pics from my iPhone still look of better quality than my mam and dad’s 5 mp Samsung.

  5. It says “size mismatch” and wont download. how is everyone else able to download this?

  6. Daxter Fellowes says

For anyone getting the size mismatch:
When installing via Cydia, click on install. Wait for the information regarding the size of installation and dependencies. Once you get that, click install. That’s how it worked for me.

  7. So could someone upload some side-by-side comparisons, like compare a picture you could take with the stock Camera app with a picture you can take from this app. That would be nice :).

i tried this app but found it to be very unstable. every time i tried clicking a snap the app crashed on me. finally gave up and uninstalled it.

    • If you could, please contact us directly at occipital so we can get to the bottom of that. In version 1.0.0 there was a permissions problem on some phones that caused this. If you got it with 1.0.2 then I would like to figure out why.

  9. can’t find it on cydia. i have a 2G phone. ….can anyone help me pls?

  10. beware! it sounds pretty cool but unfortunately after using this app couple of times my 2g iphone stopped working I had to restore it to get rid of it

    • You couldn’t uninstall? ClearCam does not modify its program directly at all, and I have never heard a report that you could not uninstall it. If you could contact customer service at occipital and give a little more detail we would really appreciate it.

  11. I can’t find it on cydia……………….
