Safari Tab Closer – Close All Your Tabs With One Button

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Safari Tab Closer Safari Tab Closer is an app that allows you to close all your open Safari tabs using just one button! When you install Safari Tab Closer, it does not add an icon to your SpringBoard, it just automatically enables the mod. To use the mod, open Safari and tap and hold the icon all the way to the right on the lower menu bar (the tab icon). This will then open a pop-up with two options; Close All Tabs and Cancel. If you select Close All Tabs, all your open Safari tabs will close. Brilliant…just brilliant! This app worked fine for me and is available via the BigBoss source. [Read more…]

iPhone 3G Pro Coming in June (Rumor?)

AppleBarrons.com, part of the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, is reporting info on the upcoming iPhone release. Calling it the iPhone 3G Pro, they quote RBC Capital’s Mike Abramsky that claims faster 3G using the HSUPA standard, improved graphics, video recording & messaging, 16GB & 32GB sizes, possibly thinner and a $199/$299 price point. He also said he expects the new version to be offered on AT&T first, and other markets second. Does this mean other world markets like O2 or other USA markets like Verizon & Sprint?

Glass Two – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoardglasstwotheme2 Glass Two is a clean theme that contains 142 icons, dock, status bar and wallpaper. The theme also contains a template so that you can create your own icons (I love when they do that!!). The only issue I have with this theme is that the dock that that theme comes with has reflections of icons however, the reflections are (from left to right); Phone, Safari, iPod and Settings. I personally like to have different icons in my dock but, then it doesn’t reflect correctly. It isn’t a huge deal since you can easily change this using other docks in WinterBoard. If you liked the Glass theme…then you will probably want to check this one out. It is available via the modmyi source. [Read more…]

Retweet Free for 24 Hours

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99 Free for 24hrs

RetweetThere are A LOT of Twitter apps in the App Store, but this one is different from the rest. It’s a really great idea and for the next 24 hours, or so, it’s free. It’s really simple. It lists the top retweeted tweets and lets you retweet them yourself. That’s it! You can sort them by the last 3, 6, 12, or 24 hours and each tweet shows the original tweeper and how many times it’s been retweeted. There’s a refresh button in the top right and you can scroll down to load more. A must have for all Twitter apps is the built in web browser, which it has. The only thing it really needs is the option to edit the retweet before you send it. This may defeat the purpose of the app because if the tweet isn’t exactly the same, it can’t track it, but it would be a nice option.

The apps has great design and works great, but I’m glad I got it for free. It will be nice for tracking iPhone news but it’s not really an app I think everyone needs. Hurry and grab it while you can! And if you want the same thing in a browser, just go to their site, retweetfeed.com

UstreamBroadcaster

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

UstreamBroadcasterThe Ustream.tv Mobile app has to be one of the coolest apps that I have played with. On my personal website (justinvanrheenen.com) I have a section on my sidebar for live streaming from Ustream.tv. I really haven’t used this much but this mobile app may make it easier to live stream whatever my heart desires.

To get instructions for the download, you can go to Ustream.tv/mobile. You will need to sign up for a Ustream.tv account if you do not currently have one.

Once you have set up your account, open Cydia. If you have not jailbroken your iPhone yet, you will not be able to use the Ustream.tv Mobile App. You can download a Ustream.tv Watch App from the App Store but to be able to live stream from the phone, you will need to jailbreak your phone.
1. Once you have opened Cydia tap “Sections” at the bottom.
2. On the next screen, tap “Multimedia”.
3. Then tap the letter “u” to find the UstreamBroadcaster.
4. Then install and confirm the installation of the app.

Apple Patent: Embedded Authentication System

AppleA lot of blogs have been talking about a recent patent application by Apple for an “Embedded Authentication System.” The concept is pretty sweet but we’ve got to get something out of the way first. It seems that there is an image used in the application that is, well… just take a look for yourself:

patent

You jailbreakers should notice a lot of stuff here. The major things are Installer, SMBPrefs, & other icons from Installer. Why would Apple use this in a future patent? Well first you have to understand what Apple is doing with this “Embedded Authentication System.” [Read more…]

Firmware 3.0 Preview: Camera

CameraI really, really wish Apple would have fixed one thing with the Camera app. Make the whole screen the button to take the picture. Then, when you’re taking a self portrait, you don’t have to find the button. The new features are all pretty small compared to other firmware 3.0 features but nice improvements. Instead of the blue box in the bottom left corner, which takes you to the camera roll, there is now a preview of the last picture you took. Tapping on it still takes you to the camera roll. Also, when in the camera roll, instead of tapping on the little camera icon to get back to the camera, you now tap “done”. [Read more…]

Nissho Creative Applications Free Today Through March 29th

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

logo_ichiban Nissho Creative Corp. (aka Ichiban Games) is running a promotion in which all of their application are free from today (March 27th) through March 29th. The apps include Fire Art Garden (normally $0.99), Einstein (normally $4.99) and Watts Shockin’ (normally $1.99). I have had Fire Art Garden on my iPhone for a while now and it is a game that I enjoy. I have very briefly played Watts Shockin’ and it seems like a decent app too. I have not demoed Einstein (Note: Einstein requires 2.2.1 firmware). So, if you are looking for some new games…you might want to check these out!

Fire Art Garden Fire Art Garden – “Fire Art Garden is an action puzzle game where they player slides panels around the screen to guide lit fuses to firework canons. Players complete a stage by connecting a lit fuse to all the cannons on the screen.”

6 iPhone 3.0 Icons – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

6 iPhone 3.0 Icons 6 iPhone 3.0 Icons is a theme that includes the Stocks, iPod, Phone, Voice Memos, SMS and MMS icons from the 3.0 firmware. When you install 6 iPhone 3.0 Icons (via the iSpazio source), it will add the theme into WinterBoard where it can then be activated/deactivated. When activated, the Phone, Stocks, iPod and SMS icons will change to the 3.0 icons however, you will not see the Voice Memos or MMS icons due to the fact that there are no apps with these titles on your SpringBoard (or at least not on my SpringBoard). But, the icons are in the theme’s folder so if you want them you can go to Library/Themes/iPhone 3.0 Icons/Icons folder on your iPhone or iPod Touch. I also added them to this post (see screenshots below) The theme only contains these six icons. I will say that I’m a little confused by the MMS icon…I’m not sure if it is based on the country you are in or what but, Doug does not have that icon on his 3.0 upgrade.

Firmware 3.0 Preview: Photos

PhotosThe Photos application’s new features mainly have to do with the way photos are shared. You can now of course send photos via MMS. Just select the photo you want and tap the little arrow in the bottom right and it gives you the option to send via MMS. Another great added feature is the option to send more than one photo via MMS or email. To do this go to one of your albums and tap the arrow again in the bottom left corner. This now gives you three options at the bottom. Share, copy, and delete. If you tap share you get the option to send via email or MMS. You can also open your email and paste the photos into an existing email, draft, reply or new email. [Read more…]

QuickBirthday – Keep Track of Upcoming Birthdays

Available In: Cydia       Price: $4.99 EUR – 14 day free trial

QuickBirthday QuickBirthday is an application that allows you to keep track of upcoming birthdays, send birthday greetings via SMS or email and create events. When you install QuickBirthday, it will also install two other apps at the same time; QuickBoard (which is the platform QuickBirthday runs on) and QuickSMS (which I find is annoying…I only want to install the app that I want to install!). Once the apps are installed, you can launch them by tapping your volume up button on the side of your iPhone. This will launch a menu with a few options including the ability to purchase the app and the ability to retrieve a trial license…you probably just want to retrieve the trial license for now (the full version of the app is $4.99 EUR).

Once your trial license has been downloaded, you can select the volume up button again to get into the application. It defaults to the QuickSMS application so you will want to select the QuickBoard option on the lower menu bar. Here you will see QuickSMS, QuickBirthday and Settings. In the Settings, you will find quite a few setting options including the ability to set QuickBirthday as the volume up button instead of QuickSMS (or you can set it as the double-tap on Home Button or the double-tap on Status Bar). School Bus

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard School Bus is just a fun little application that displays a school bus driving across your SpingBoard. It is displayed in the space where your forth row of icons would be so, you will want to have moved those in order to see the app correctly (see screenshots below). The bus then slowly moves across your SpringBoard from right to left. Once it goes off the left side of the page, it just starts over again. I did not have any issues with the app affecting the SpringBoard functionality. When you install the app, it is added to WinterBoard where it can be activated/deactivated.

Vibrate Toggle SBSettings – Easily Turn on/off Vibrate Feature

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Vibrate SBSettings Toggle The Vibate Toggle SBSettings application is exactly what the title indicates…it adds a vibrate option to your SBSettings which allows you to toggle on/off the vibrate feature. Personally, I think this is a nice option to have (sometimes the vibrate is as loud as a ringtone!!). When I tested this toggle…it worked perfectly. If you toggle it off, the vibrate feature is turned off. If you toggle it on, you get a short vibrate indicating the the feature has been turned back on. If it doesn’t automatically show up in the SBSettings application, you will need to go into More (in SBSettings) and then Set Toggles and turn on the Vibrate option.

On a side note, what are some of the toggles you have in SBSettings?

Firmware 3.0 Preview: Calendar

calendarThe Calendar application for firmware 3.0 didn’t have a lot of changes but there are some pretty important ones. Starting with the ability to add Invitees to your event. Just tap it and it lets you pick from your contact list. Next is Availability. This shows if you are busy, free, tentative or out of office. These two little feature make Calendar a little nicer, but there’s one more. A pretty big feature is the ability to search. At the top of “list view” there is a search box. Just start typing and it will show you results. This is all very useful to those of you using your iPhone for business. Overall the app stayed pretty much the same with some new features. Let me know in the comments what else you think the Calendar App should have as features.
