BluIce – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard bluicetheme3 BluIce is a theme with kind of a space, futuristic feel to it. The theme contains 27 icons, a wallpaper, dock and statusbar. The only issue with this theme is that the Calendar icon is named incorrectly in the folder so, it doesn’t show up correctly without changing the name of the icon. If you are comfortable with SSH…you can SSH into the Library/Theme/BluIce/Icons folder and rename the icon from Calendarpng.png to Calendar.png (just remove the extra png). I also am not too sure about the Settings icon…it doesn’t seem to fit the rest of the theme. I think it would also be better with a blue badge instead of the stock red one. All that said, I think it is a great start. [Read more…]

WinterBoard Settings

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard Settings I was surprised when I opened Cydia this morning and saw a WinterBoard Settings application. I was like…Shut Up! I totally thought we were going to get some sweet new settings…maybe some interface settings and what not. Well, that is not exactly what this app is.

WinterBoard Settings, via the david.ashman.com source, will add an option for WinterBoard in your stock Settings application. When selected, you have the option to turn on/off SpringBoard Only (which will apply WinterBoard themes to only your SpringBoard) and Debug (I’m not exactly sure what this setting would do). You can also view all your WinterBoard themes from the Settings option. [Read more…]

Star Defense – Preview Video

Available In: App Store       Price: Available in May

Star Defense I wrote a little article about Star Defensea couple of weeks ago that included a quick description of the game and some demo videos. Yesterday, I received another video demo from the developer. This video shows a little more of the game interface and some of the ways they are working social networking (Twitter, Facebook) into the app. Still no word on when we will actually see the app in the App Store or how much it will cost.

Dictionary – Translation Dictionary

Available In: Cydia       Price: 3 Day Trial then ?

Dictionary Judging by the title of the application, I figured this application would be a dictionary for your iPhone or iPod Touch. You know, look up words and find their definitions. Well, upon installing and reviewing the app…I found that it is actually a translation dictionary.

Dictionary will come with a few translation dictionaries already installed. If you select the settings icon in the lower left corner, you can delete those dictionaries and choose the ones that suit you best. In the Settings you can choose the size of the font, edit the list of dictionaries that are installed and download new dictionaries. The dictionaries that are available for download are in categories based on the language you would like to translate from. The languages include; Danish, English, Bulgarian, French, German, Hungarian and Russian. Once you choose the language you would like to translated from (say English) you will then get a list of of languages to translate to. For Example, English to Latin or English to Spanish or English to French…etc. [Read more…]

SlingPlayer Mobile – Watch and Control Your Home TV and DVR

Available In: App Store       Price: $29.99

SlingPlayer Mobile As a former SlingPlayer user on my Windows Mobile Samsung i730 and i760, I was anxiously awaiting the release of the live television streaming application for the iPhone. For nearly a year now, I have been without the live feed of my Slingbox (recently upgraded to a SB Solo due to a change in cable service) on my mobile phone. There have been a few wedding receptions, baby showers, and dull meetings where I could have benefited from catching some live sports coverage on my iPhone. After months of rumors leading up to the eventual release in the App Store this past Wednesday, the moment has finally arrived. Thanks to Brooke and the folks at Sling Media, I got a chance to play with the pricey app on my iPhone. Now, let’s get this out there right away: SlingPlayer only works on WiFi. No 3G, no EDGE, only WiFi. You can read about why and why people are mad about this, but I’m going to hold SlingMedia free from blame for this, and instead, I’m only going to judge the application on its performance under these conditions. Birthday Cal Push – Import Contacts’ Birthday’s into Calendar

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Birthday Cal Push Birthday Cal Push is an application that will put your Contacts’ birthday’s into your stock Calendar application. I was actually totally stoked to see this application. As far as I know, this is the first app of this type.

Once installed, all you have to do is tap on the Birthday Cal Push icon and the application will open and close. In theory, all your contacts’ birthday’s will then be in your Calendar. However, this application did not work for me. I tapped on the icon, it opened and closed, I went to my Calendar and I got nothing. So, I gave it another shot…still nothing. I even tried entering a new birthday for one of my contacts and then running the Birthday Cal Push app. [Read more…]

QuickTip – Silence and Send Calls to Voicemail using Power Button

It’s time for anther QuickTip! My last QuickTip was about how to lock your iPhone using the Power Button so, I thought I would stick with the “Power Button” theme.

QuickTip – When receiving an incoming call, you can quickly press the power button (that is the button on the top of your device) once to mute the ringing. Or, when receiving an incoming call, you can quickly press the power button twice and send the call straight to voicemail! [Read more…]

The Metal Thing – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

The Metal Thing themetalthing3 The Metal Thing is a pretty cool theme that contains 30 icons, moving wallpaper, dock, status bar, lock background, SMS background, sliders, badges, dialer, calculator…etc. This theme is unique in the fact that it has an “animated” wallpaper. In the center of the wallpaper is a blue sphere…inside the sphere you will get a nice lighting affect every once and a while. The icons also need to be in a specific order around the sphere. The rest of your icons can be placed wherever you would like them. (See screenshots below) I did notice that the animated wallpaper does making the icons a little laggy when in “move” mode however, it doesn’t seem to affect scrolling of SpringBoard pages. You can get The Metal Thing via the modmyi source. [Read more…]

Encrypto – Hide Photos in Your Camera Roll

Available In: App Store       Price: $1.99

Encrypto Encrypto is an application that allows you to hide images that are in your Camera Roll. When you open Encrypto, you will need to choose a passkey. You will want to remember your passkey because the next time you open the app, you will have to enter it.

Once in the application, you have three options on the lower menu bar; the main page, the help page and the import page. On the main page you will see all the photos from your Camera Roll. It automatically pulls in all your photos however, it will not pull in any screenshots that are in your Camera Roll. I personally like that it only pulls in photos and not screenshots. Each photo has a image of a lock on it. If you tap on the lock, it will Encrypt the photo. [Read more…]

Reflective Dock The Reflective Dock mod is a mod that allows the icons on your dock to have reflections. Well, it seems that Mr. David Ashman has updated the mod adding all sorts of new settings.

reflectivedock173

Once installed, you can now go into your stock Settings application and you will see a Reflective Dock option. Here you are able to Enable/Disable the application (no more need for WinterBoard), turn on/off the Reflect All Icons option, turn on/off the Use Gradient options and adjust the Opacity, Reflection Gap, Reflection Length Factor and the Horizontal Shift.

PhotoList Update – Facebook Integration

Available In: App Store       Price: $1.99

PhotoList I opened iTunes this evening and what did I see? An update to an app that I had done a review on last week. It was the PhotoList app by Raisix Inc. (click here for the review) I was interested to see what they had updated and I was hoping it wasn’t just stability issues as most updates are. But to my surprise they had added a new feature to the app…Facebook integration!! Now that is cool.

The Facebook integration allows you to do two things: Upload and Download photos to and from your personal Facebook account.

To Download
Within PhotoList, create a new folder that you want to download pics from your Facebook account. Tap on your new created folder and tap the folder icon at the bottom right of the screen. Tap “Facebook” on the “Download photo from” title and after it requests authorization, sign into your Facebook account. Once you have done this tap “Done” and start downloading from any of your Facebook photo folders. Once you have selected your photo, name it or keep the default name and give it your 1 to 5 rating (if you want), and tap “Done”. Once you are done, tap the Facebook arrow and then cancel to take you back to the PhotoList app. [Read more…]

Silent Mail Sound – Turn Your Mail Sound Notification into a Vibrate Notification

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Silent Mail Sound Silent Mail Sound is a mod that will turn off your mail notification sound but, will still have your device vibrate when you receive a new email. I’m not really sure why you would need this mod. I guess if you do not want to put your entire iPhone into vibrate mode but, you still want to know when you receive an email without the sound notification…then you might use this mod!

When you install Silent Mail Sound, it is added to WinterBoard where it is then activated/deactivated. In order for the mod to work, your New Mail sound notification (located in your Setting application under Sounds, New Mail) must be turned on. However, once you activate the Silent Mail Sound mod in WinterBoard, it will automatically disable the sound and replace it with vibrate. If you have the New Mail sound notification turned off in your stock Settings application, the Silent Mail Sound mod will not work. [Read more…]
