purplera1n Now Available for Mac [iPhone 3GS Jailbreak]

##ICON_NAME##George Hotz has now added a mac version of purplera1n to purplera1n.com and an upgrade to the PC version. This is currently the only option for jailbreaking the iPhone 3GS. Let us know how it works for you. Again, no support for winterboard yet.

You asked for it, and we delivered. I’m not a mac coder, so AriX and westbaer stepped up to do it. Check out AriX’s blog here. Download link on purplera1n.com, and thank AriX and westbaer next time you see them!

Also, some more payload stability improvements were made, and the windows version was updated to RC2a. There is no reason to run RC2a if you already have RC2 installed.

Very nice! The only things I really miss from jailbreaking is the “flashlight” & “IRealQuickSMS” I’m not sure it’s worth jailbreaking just for those two apps… 3.0 added everything else that I jailbroke for: Video Cam, Copy & Paste, Battery %, Landscape Keyboard, MMS & Teathering… Don’t get me wrong Winterboard themes are fun, but I can live with out them (plus winterboard lagged your phone down) so I need to think about it before I jailbreak my new 3GS just for those two apps.

  2. The jailbreak was there, so I had to do it. Problem is a lot of neat add-ons rely on Winterboard, not just themes. I’m satisfied with having the Five Icon Dock, Open SSH and SB Settings. Open SSH works perfectly with Cyberduck. Apart from those, jailbreaking means a lot less to me than it once did. If I didn’t have it, I would be just fine.

  3. I agree with you guys, the phones run much smoother without Winterboard and I’ve learned to live without it. I do miss sbsettings though, and if the PSX emulator actually works I will be forced to try it out. I wasn’t planning on jailbreaking my 3gs, but I’m sure I will down the road.

So far, Purplera1n has been working great. I’m using SBsettings, 5 icon dock, Categories, Reflective dock, Mivtones, and mCooliphone. And with the iPhone 3GS, I have not problems with memory so far. But I am still missing Winterboard though.

    • Hi i install the demo of Mccool Phone too and my phone freeze sometimes so i unistall it and now all is running smooth, dont understand that maybe a little bug in this programm

  5. Oh I forgot… SSH is someone I really miss… I hate the SMS tones… I always changed mine to the ESPN update jingle & I hate the shutter noise when taking a photo… I might just jailbreak after all. =D

I jailbroke my 3GS yesterday morning and it went very smooth. Then I did a restore cause I got a little scared. (first time jailbreaker) Now I’ve tried 2 more times to jailbreak using purplera1n with no luck. Just froze up during the process and had to restore through iTunes. Spent hours fooling with it last night! Can someone help me out please?

  7. Well the jailbreak worked great for me. Have a 32gig 3GS and with in a few min I was jailbroken and ready to go.

Now comes the problem. I was lying in bed looking on Safari and the auto rotate was driving me nuts so I decided to download the SBSettings autorotate kill switch. NOT A GOOD IDEA!!! Now my phone just keeps rebooting. What do I do now!?!?!? Do I just restore or is their an easier way?

    HELP!!!

    • I had the same type of problem. Only my problems were after i installed ultrasn0w. I kept losing at&t signal and my wifi would go out. Basically rebooting the signal. I uninstalled ultrasn0w and problems went away.

On a side note PDAnet works great with the 3GS.

    • I had the same problem after installing ultrasn0w on the iPhone 3GS. I kept losing cellular signal and WiFi every minute or so…it does come back after a few seconds. My only solution so far is to uninstall ultrasn0w, but then I lose my unlock chance. Can anyone help?

    • That happened when I downloaded autorotate too.

I just kept restarting and waiting and finally the phone booted in safe mode and I was able to uninstall it. I had to reboot around 3 times, and the last time I just left it on for about 3 minutes and it finally booted up.

  8. So wait,there’s no winterboard,that’s da whole reason to JB! I want different themes,weather icon tick,weather BG’s,can I do that w/this JB? If so w/what pwnagetool? or thru purplera1n.com? Cuz I can’t open purple rain,I have a mac,plz reply back,thank you

Hey guys I just jailbroke my old 3G using redsn0w. Could someone please take 2 minutes out of their day to tell me how to get all of my app store apps and settings back on the device while still keeping cydia. One of the steps in using the redsn0w jailbreak is to restore the device in iTunes using that custom firmware. Which in turn erased all my stuff. So if I just restore from my precious backup and get all my original stuff back, will it still keep cydia?

  10. great post, very informative. I’m wondering why the other experts of this sector do not understand this. You should continue your writing. I’m sure,
you’ve a great readers’ base already!
