UPDATE: The original carrier file v5.0 I had was not allowing Visual Voicemail for some people. I have updated the link below to a v5.0 that allows you to edit your settings and allows both Visual Voicemail & MMS to work. See the guide below for updates. (I’ve added steps 9 & 10.)

If you want to revert back to the carrier file 4.0 (no MMS) you may download here.

MessagesOk, I’m super excited that I got this to work. I really think it has to with AT&T allowing it to work by removing the opt-out codes (the code AT&T put in to block MMS when firmware 3.0 came out). That’s why I think it took a few days for mine to work after doing what I’m about to show you. It’s really really easy. I’m running an iPhone 3GS, jailbroken, not unlocked, on firmware 3.0.1. Your iPhone does not need to be jailbroken for this to work and I have linked to the file needed for firmware 3.1. Here’s how I did it:

PC/Windows Instructions

1. Download this carrier update file (v5.0) if you are running iPhone firmware 3.0 or 3.0.1 (it might work with lower firmware but I haven’t confirmed it.) If you are on the new 3.1, download here (v5.1).
2. Close iTunes.
3. Click Start > Run > type:cmd then press enter. Run this command: “C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
cmd
dos
4. Open iTunes.
5. Hold the shift key while clicking update under your iPhone in iTunes.
6. Change the file type to “iPhone Carrier Configuration files” by clicking in the the bottom right corner and switching to *.ipcc.
filetype
7. Find the file of the carrier update you just saved to your computer in step 1, select it and click open.
updating
8. You iPhone is now updated. You may have MMS right away if AT&T has removed your opt-out code but mine took a few days.
9. To allow for Visual Voicemail to work on firmware 3.0 & 3.0.1 using carrier file v5.0, go to your Settings app > General > Network > Cellular Data Network > and under Visual Voicemail change wap.cingular to acds.voicemail
IMG_0378
10. Double check your MMS settings below the Visual Voicemail settings above to match this (do not enter anything in blank fields):
APN: wap.cingular
Username:
Password:
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 066.209.011.32
MMS Max Message Size: 614400
MMS UA Prof URL:

NOTE: If you are on EDGE it will take a while for the image to send. If AT&T hasn’t removed the opt-out code on your account yet, you will get a red exclamation point next to the message.

Mac/OS X Instructions

1. Download this carrier update file if you are running iPhone firmware 3.0 or 3.0.1 (it might work with lower firmware but I haven’t confirmed it.) If you are on the new 3.1, download here.
2. Close iTunes.
3. Open the Terminal Application and run this command: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
Picture 4
4. Open iTunes
5. Hold the alt key while clicking update under your iPhone in iTunes.
6. Find your file of the carrier update you downloaded and select it.
7. Wait for the update. Once it’s done, turn off your iPhone and turn it back on.
8. You iPhone is now updated. You may have MMS right away if AT&T has removed your opt-out code but mine took a few days.
9. To allow for Visual Voicemail to work on firmware 3.0 & 3.0.1 using carrier file v5.0, go to your Settings app > General > Network > Cellular Data Network > and under Visual Voicemail change wap.cingular to acds.voicemail

once I did all that it still wasn’t working because on mms settings the username and password were blank, so once I typed in wap@cingulargprs.com and CINGULAR1, then it’s started to work right away, it’s been 2 days now and it still fine, so people if your username and password settings on mms are blank, use the ones I wrote above, now I’m enjoying mms FINALLY lol 

Where are those settings? I updated with the .ipcc file and I can’t find those settings.

    Oscar on September 12th, 2009 10:25 am:

go to Settings / General / Network / Celullar Data / scroll down to where it says mms

    Douglas on September 12th, 2009 10:33 am:

If you use the file I’ve linked to, you do not need to input settings.

I tried those settings with no luck. The message seems to fail to send almost immediately now. Im on 3.1 3GS.

I actually just called AT&T and thy said that they are doing a slow rollout of mms rather than everyone calling on the 25th and asking why their mms isn’t working. Then they congradulated me on being one of the first people to have MMS on the iPhone 3G. I actually got mms when my phone upgraded itself without me knowing to 3.1. Brooke or Doug please write back.PLEASE!!

    iamse7en on September 12th, 2009 2:14 pm:

I don’t have Cellular Data Network settings in Network.

I DO, however, have the mms icon in the Messaging app, and I tried sending an mms to myself, and it didn’t take. :)

    Douglas on September 12th, 2009 3:08 pm:

This file does not give access to those settings. It will just work. If it doesn’t work, wait for AT&T to remove your optout code.

Oscar, any idea what to fill in for “APN” ? Also under MMS.
Ive got camera icon in MMS but when i send, nothing happens but red exclamations.

I actually follow the instructions posted by Doug, I have a MacBook, so once I downloaded the ATT Ippc file from the link provided by Doug, it works great on my iphone with no problem, and with the link posted on the instructions above all the settings are already setup, I didn’t need to add anything else. The APN is wap.cingular

    mastuul on September 13th, 2009 9:47 am:

Just like iamse7en, I don’t have Cellular Data Network settings either. Why is that? I thought it might be from having Supreme Preferences installed, but I tried removing it and it still wasn’t there. I’ve noticed this before with my old iPhone on previous firmware versions. I used to have to access it to configure SwirlyMMS, and sometimes I’d find it and other times not. Any idea why it’s not there?

    mastuul on September 13th, 2009 10:11 am:

Never mind, I read some of the posts below these and figured it out. It’s back in my settings with the new file. Thanks.

I think why some are getting it to work is they have a unlimited family plan messaging which includes MMS. Single iphone users only have SMS. This is my thought after reading more online.

    jake on September 13th, 2009 6:45 am:

I talked to customer support. And I asked him why I had mms early. He said that he was thinking they were going to do a slow rollout of mms and when I told him that I got mms early it confirmed that thought. So AT&T are rolling mms out to everyone slowly

    stephen on September 14th, 2009 8:58 am:

This problem is cause by the quotation marks around the file path. When the path is put on the web, the quotes are automatically shaped to “open” and “close” quote marks. The command line requires straight quotes marks. You can copy and paste, then just fix both quotation marks and you’ll be fine.

    mastuul on September 12th, 2009 11:39 am:

They don’t say anything about figuring it out themselves. This has been out since 3.0 was released, then it stopped working, and now it’s working again, so I think everyone knows it’s not a new discovery by them. Who cares who figured it out anyway.

    Douglas on September 12th, 2009 11:59 am:

That’s correct, we did not make this hack, we just created a guide. The reason it’s working for everyone now is because AT&T is removing the opt-out codes and so now we decided to publish it. A more complicated hack worked before but wasn’t working for everyone so we didn’t publish it.

Anyone else think it’s stupid/lame that the OG iPhone won’t be able to do MMS? Not like it really has anything to do with the hardware, it’s merely a software limitation. Sorry, I just needed to vent on this issue as I’m still rocking my OG and AT&T was dumb enough to use a pic of it in their marketing plan for MMS on the iPhone.

I tried the method above but the firmware (3.0) I’m still using doesn’t even have the camera icon or the settings feature. Way to go with limiting the capabilities based on hardware. I’m so torn with my love of all things Apple.

    What happens when you shift+update?

    Brian on September 12th, 2009 12:26 pm:

I made a couple mistakes when I first tried this. The first was when typing in the command: You should note that there is both forward slashes and backwards slashes. If you just use one instead of both, the command may still run. Second, the second part of the command:

    /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

That is a capital “i,” not a lowercase “L.” I made this mistake. After fixing those, the ipcc update option was there.

    Chad on September 12th, 2009 6:25 pm:

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=724086

found the 4.0 file there. everything works now after downgrading and restarting.

    Also:

If you want your voicemails to work with the 5.0 file you need to put in the following setting under: Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network

Navigate down to the Visual Voicemail section and input the following (or leave blank)
    APN: acds.voicemail
    Username: [leave blank]
    Password: [leave blank]

After changing those settings you should start to receive voicemail’s within 1-15 mins. If not, restart your phone and go back in that menu and check the settings again.

There was also a question of sending mass texts even though the carrier file was setup. What you could do is go to the following so you could send mass texts w/o it using MMS:

    Settings -> Messages

Then navigate down to the option that says MMS Messaging and turn it off. After doing that, mass text messages will be sent via regular texts instead of MMS messages. This will also remove the camera icon in the text messaging section.

    Best of luck.

You can’t right click and download. You just have to click on that link and go to rapidshare to get the file.

I just got my MMS working. But I am no longer receiving visual voicemail. Also when I check my custom greeting it just says “Retreiving greeting” and never actually retreives it. So the connection is definitely gone. I like VV and use it all the time. So I dunno if this is worth losing it. I hope there is a fix soon before the official carrier update. Cause I also like MMS lol.

Yes I’m a little excited! Can you guys tell? As soon as I installed the new ipcc file my VV immediately kicked in and my Star Trek LCARS computer said “there is one message waiting for you!” lol…. Ya I’m a geek :P

I tested MMS again as well to make sure THAT was still working as well. AND IT IS! Thank you again. I am on a 3GS running 3.0.1 firmware.

My MMS, Visual Voicemail and tethering all work. I used the 2nd ipcc that was posted here. My carrier settings under Cellular Data Network all say wap.cingular…for Cellular Data, Visual Voicemail and MMS.

I think since I am jailbroken and installed a Cydia file from Sinfuliphone source called “MMS & Tethering Settings” is the reason why all my setups work. I’ve had this installed the whole time so I’m not sure if it made a difference. I’m just happy now because everything works the way it is supposed to!

    mcon on September 13th, 2009 6:44 pm:

I noticed that the Internet Tethering was now an option. Can ATT see if you turn this on? I use PDAnet from Cydia now which I assume they can’t see. It would be great if I could use the built in internet tethering. Thanks.

iTunes 9 doesn’t like my phone. Jailbroken 3G 3.0 iTunes kicks back an exception error when applying the carrier upgrade. On 2 different computers.

Worked fine on my wife’s 3.1 un-jailbroke phone. But Phoenix is still locked down. So I guess I am waiting either way.

I am gonna have to wait for 3.1 jailbreak and Sept 25th. I hope it works then.
I am tempted to do a restore & re-jb but it is too much work when in reality I know I can’t really send them anyway!

    NOTE TO ALL!

whoever said use the regular “/” instead of “\” like stated above for 64bit was genius, but don’t forget to run cmd as admin.

so it would be like this for 64 bit…

    “C:/Program Files (x86)/iTunes/iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

btw mine does pause about on about 90% sent and hangs for about 2 minutes or a tad more, but then sends. I’m guessing the tower’s aren’t really set up to accept them yet from iphone.

    BUT RUN CMD AS ADMIN.

    thanks for this file guys!!

    JB on September 12th, 2009 10:28 pm:

BTW meant to say this, but as stated above, remove the AT&T Package in Cydia that changes the AT&T logo made by BossPref I believe. It was causing an error on when trying to update carrier info and then it worked like a charm.

But remember to reboot your device after changing the settings!

    Richard on September 13th, 2009 12:36 pm:

Thanks Josh!! I did have the BigBoss AT&T Logo installed! Removed, Upgraded Carrier and reinstalled! I had forgot that it was a hack to the carrier settings and not just a Winterboard Skin and that did the trick!

    LarryInAz on September 17th, 2009 2:40 pm:

Ditto on the thanks to Josh – I had tried several times on different computers [Mac and PC's] while my 3.1 phone was not jailbroken and then after it was jailbroken and I continued to get the “unknown error” message – the specific error code was 0xE800003D.
At any rate after seeing your post suggesting to remove the BigBoss logo hack I was able to update the ATT_US.IPCC. I followed the rest of the instructions above and MMS is now “working”. I unfortunately do get the red exclamation mark “fail whale” message – so I’ll just have to be patient for my local ATT to toggle the Opt Out in the Phoenix area.

    terry on October 4th, 2009 2:53 am:

Josh, Thanks for the note about the ATT Logo by BossPref. I’ve been trying for days to get MMS to work and after seeing your note I had it working in minutes.

Don’t know if someone answered this or not, but make sure you are downloading the file through something other than safari or internet explorer 8. Personally, I used Chrome. The same thing happened to me, so try it this way. I am on 3.0.1 / 3G / Windows XP / Jailbroken, not unlocked and I now have MMS and Visual VM working perfectly!

Anytime you hold shift and select upgrade on iTunes, a window will pop-up allowing you to browse for ipsw files, but you can change it to look for ipcc files by using the drop down menu. If it doesn’t pop-up and it wants you to update the firmware without browsing for it, then your shift key isn’t working.

Did not prompt me to overwrite and after a reboot of my phone it stills shows carrier as AT&T 4.0

    Hello Jim

Ok this is what you need to do

When u download the carrier file just tap the file and a
Message will come up on ifile asking you what u want to open it with

    Choose the “zip viewer” option
    Now check all the files
And tap the button on the lower right of the screen to extract
Once you do that you will have 2 folders
    1. Says “_MACOSX” and
    2. Says “PAYLOAD”

Tap the  ”PAYLOAD” folder and there will be a folder
    That says “ATT_US.bundle”
Copy that folder and paste it into system/library/carrier bundles
Then it will ask you to overwrite
    Say yes and Reboot!

For people who are getting the red exclamation mark… Yesterday I did the hack and everything worked fine as far as MMS goes. Today I did this update to fix the visual voice mail problem. I followed the steps correctly, rebooted and my voice mail worked but I received the red mark when trying to use MMS.

To fix this I went back to step 10. I deleted all the data entered under:
    MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS Proxy: 066.209.011.32
    MMS Max Message Size: 614400

Then I rebooted. I went back in to cellular data network reentered the same data again. Rebooted one more time and everything works now.

I updated the carrier file and added all the information under cell network and I still keep getting the message send error with the red examination point. Any ideas?

Also, i updated the carrier file and my visual voicemail started working fine. Should I still have changed the voicemail “acds.voicemail” thing if its already working fine?

Its very tricky. It’s on that box in the very bottom right hand corner.

the only thing in that box is iphone/ipod feature.ppc somthin like that..that it…

    Shwizz on September 13th, 2009 1:01 pm:

You have to make sure you type the command perfectly. There is one character that looks like a lowercase L but its really a capital i. If you type it in wrong it will still look like it worked but the option to switch from .ipsw to .ipcc will not be there.

    nate on September 13th, 2009 1:12 pm:

which word..i copeid an past it i manually typed it in…no go..type it for me so i can copy it…

You cannot copy and paste you have to type it! I made that mistake a few times myself. Where it says “/setPrefInt” That is a capital i in between the f and n not a lowercase L.

    Shwizz on September 13th, 2009 1:27 pm:

After you get the command in correctly. You will then see the option to switch between .ipsw and .ipcc when you hold shift and click on update in iTunes. It should look like the photo after step 6 at the top of this page.

Just an update. Everything was working like I said up further in this thread. However, I lost my camera icon and everything I did to get it back did not work. I found that by having the extra file installed from the Sinful iPhone repo and not having the settings entered manually as directed above in the step by step instructions cause my phone to have the ability to use the features temporarily.

As soon as I turned my phone off and then back on the camera icon was gone but everything else still seemed to work. So, I got rid of the Cydia Sinful iPhone MMS & Tethering file and then I simply followed all the above intructions to the letter on my Windows Vista system running iTunes 9.0. Entered all the proper info under Voicemail and MMS and then rebooted my phone. Then voila! MMS, Tethering and voicemail ALL WORK!

The steps above are pretty straight forward. Again I have an iPhone 3GS with firmware 3.0.1.

Additionally I tried to do the exact same thing for a friend of mine. He has a 3G iPhone. But he cannot send or receive MMS but can tether and use voicemail. I’m guessing AT&T did not set him up yet because all the settings are the same. He is running 3.0.

Something else. I probably won’t even use MMS all that much, lol. But I like the fact that it’s there if I want to use it. It’s the principle of the matter in my opinion. ;)

I get the same thing – I am now able to successfully send and receive MMS (it took 1 day for AT&T to turn it on for me after doing this upgrade), but I do NOT have a Tethering option under the Network settings?? Anyone have any thoughts or solutions why? Running 3G with 3.1.

No need for all this carp! This is way to much! Ok so i havent seen anybody do this, but I’m sure people out there have done it. So here’s what to do…

    Add source: repo.sinfuliphone.com
    Install: MMS and Tethering Settings

Then you’ll go to: Settings> General> Reset, then push Reset Network Settings and reset.

When the phone turns back on you’ll have mms and tethering. It worked for me. I don’t mess with tethering cause i don’t want to pay for it at the end of the month.

You can send pics and videos(3gs) to people that can receive them. If your’re trying to send to another iphone they have to do the same thing. Or else they wont receive it. Oh, and one time it stopped working, so all I did was reset the settings again. It work!

    I did what you said….Add source: repo.sinfuliphone.com

    Still won’t work for me.

I can send pics, but the person I’m sending to doesn’t get them.
My phone shows the pics as being sent too.
He has a Blackberry and gets MMS, so I’m not sure what’s up.

Am I supposed to put something in the User name and password fields
    under Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network>MMS

By the way, it shows that I have tethering, but I haven’t tried it yet.

  159. Rene on September 14th, 2009 5:33 pm:

<> (IN RED) is what I get when sending every time…I guess this may only work in certain areas. In San Antonio,Tx it doesn’t work. Try numerous ways to get MMS before At&T rolls it out I guess I have to wait for them :-(

A few hours later after I turned on my phone, the mms was gone. In no place could I select mms (messages, camera, messages setting), the cellular data network settings are still there that allows you to change the mms apn settings (the cellular data and visual voicemail are still there also). Tethering still works also, and I don’t know about visual voicemail because I don’t even know what that is. I tried reinstalling the carrier file, and no luck. everything was the same. Anybody have any ideas? I know I will not be able to send any, but I would like to be able to check everyday to see if my opt out code is good that would allow me to. Thanks!

A couple of things after spending most of the night working on it. I have Vista 64 and the my path was not my user first, so after typing cmd, it typed cd\ to get to the C prompt. Then typed in the 64 bit info from above. There is (at least on mine) a space between Files and (x86), and as others have discovered that is a a capital letter I not a lower case L (took hours to figure that out) if you do type in the L it will not give you the option for the ipcc, once you do it correctly, it takes literally 10 seconds to do the whole thing (4 hours later.lol)

i have two seperate cell phones, one Sprint and one Iphone. I was able to send and receive photos to my Iphone with no problem and no hanging before it went through and also tested my voicemail and it works fine.

But, where the heck are you all getting tethering.

Thanks so much for this blog, even though I could have waited until Friday to get it, it is always cool to have it before everyone else.

  221. Keith on September 23rd, 2009 8:52 pm:

I can get any two items working but not MMS and VVM and tethring. What I do now is keep MMS and VVM going until I have the need for the others and just install tethering when I need it, then I revert back to MMS and VVM.

I have a 3GS and OS 3.0. I get MMS by adding the name and password, and I get VVM by using acds.voicemail. As soon as I add acds.voicemail, tethering disappears.

If someone (ANYONE) knows how to get the tethering to work with MMS and VVM then let me know. I will be a happy camper and probably NEVER upgrade to the 3.1.

    Thanks y’all!

Muscle! I was having a problem, and then I realised something, tested and found the solution. This is something that will help everyone running 64-bit windows. In order to have the cmd line locate the correct file, (provided you installed iTunes in the “Program Files (x86) folder) you need to type in cmd: “C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

Thanks, that is specifically for 64bit users. Hope that can be edited in. I tried for like 30 minutes to set that, and it wouldn’t work until I specified the 32bit folder.

This appears to be working. I was running the mobileconfig file from http://www.phonetweaks.com/att_com.mobileconfig on my ATT iPhone, with OS 3.01 and carrier file ATT_US 4.0 and NO Jailbreak on my 32GB 3GS, with tethering working fine via bluetooth and USB. I installed the ATT_US 5.0 using this technique and rebooted. I didn’t want OS 3.1 because I might want to JB some day.

Afterwards visual voice mail was not there to configure in settings > general > network > Cellular Data Network. Also the tethering was still able to be turned on but it disappeared when I tried to use it the first time via blue tooth. However, I confirmed MMS was working by sending a photo to my VZW phone. I sent a photo back to my iPhone from the VZW phone and it took 20 minutes to arrive but at least it did show up! I then removed the phonetweaks mobileconfig profile and I could finally see the Visual Voice Mail settings, so I was able to update to acds.voicemail for it to work.

Then I went to the http://help.benm.at/usa.php website and installed their mobileconfig (instead of the old one) and went to turn on tethering but was told to contact the carrier. I rebooted again (maybe had to do it twice, I lost count) and tethering now works. In facy I am currently connected to the internet via tethering with USB as I type this (airport is turned off on my Macbook). I was afraid to try bluetooth tethering since that caused it to be removed last time, and I don’t care about bluetooth tethering which will drain the iPhone battery too fast.

The MMS I sent from the iPhone showed up on the VZW phone quickly, but I can’t explain the 20 minutes it took to receive an MMS. I will test it more later, but I don’t want to overload the MMS servers or the network since everyone seems to be doing that.

    **** MMS on 3GS with 3.0.1 JB **** Solved! **** No more Red ! marks ****

OK, I spent most of my evening trying to get MMS working using the 5.0 carrier files here, but no success. I even tried carrier files on other sites, but still no success. I eventually reset them back to the 5.0 from this site.

So, I just got off the phone with AT&T (I caved and called the evil empire). Funny thing…AT&T had me registered to my original first gen iPhone and also had me on the cheaper 2G data plan…even though I was getting 3G service (I knew that all along…I was just milking the lower data plan for as long as I could). That is why I was getting the red ! marks.

So, AT&T changed me back to the pricier data/text plan of $35/mo. :-( and had me “Reset” Network Settings in iPhone’s settings menu. To do this, go to: Settings | General | Reset | Reset Network Settings

If you’re in my boat and you are still on the cheaper 2G data plan, or you want to avoid human interaction with AT&T, try “resetting” your network settings BEFORE calling AT&T. If you’re still not getting MMS to work, you’ll have to call “the man.” (AT&T)

I’m back to paying their pricier data plan, but MMS is working and as a bonus it appears tethering is active too. I haven’t tried it out yet, but that was a nice surprise.

I ran the cmd and itunes wont let me switch to “ipcc” files is it because i have vista or am i doing something wrong?

    Michael on September 26th, 2009 10:45 am:

I had the same issue with the command prompt settings in Vista. The CMD prompt directions at this site don’t seem to work in Vista, but I found another site that changed the sequence and I was successful. Here’s what I did…

    1. Go to a CMD prompt.

    2. Enter: “cd C:\Program Files\iTunes\” (OMIT all quotes) and press “Enter”

    3. You should now be at: C:\Program Files\iTunes>

    3. Now enter: “iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1″ (OMIT all quotes) in the Command Prompt line and press “Enter.”

    4. You should be back to a regular command prompt without any errors. If so, the setting took.

    Michael on September 26th, 2009 10:54 am:

Also, be sure when you’re doing steps 5, 6, & 7 that your phone is connected to the PC, the phone is turned on, and it’s done syncing. Plus, make sure you are holding the “Shift” key when selecting the “Update / Check Update” in iTunes.

FYI…I’m using iTunes 9.0…not sure if that makes a difference, but it shouldn’t.

I have been having this same problem all evening. Also driving me nuts. Finally got it working. It was a permissions problem. I have itunes 9.01 and a jailbroken 3gs at 3.01. I’m not sure what non jailbroken owners can do to fix this – since I had to use SSH to change th permissions.

SSH into your iphone (if you are jailbroken, you can get all of the instructions on this at Cydia). Once in, you need to navigate to your Carrier Bundles folder, as follows: /private/var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundles/. Once there, you need to change the permissions box to read 0777 (it will likely read 0755 when you first log in). Once you do this, repeat the steps 5,6, and 7 – and it should now load the carrier file without the error.

Hope this helps. Finally worked for me. Perhaps someone else can chime in and with information on how non jailbroken folks can change the permissions on this folder. Bob

    Terry on September 27th, 2009 6:12 pm:

Thanks! I did what you said and did NOT work but I went back and saw that the files in the ATT_US.bundle folder all had x0755 permissions so I checked the box to “Set group, owner, and permissions recursively” and then did steps 5,6, and 7 again and it worked. (added a bunch of files!) Thanks again for the help!!

I followed this because my 3G is jailbroken and I wanted MMS, since that was the only thing left to have. This worked great, but remember to restart your phone. Then goto the settings\messaging and make sure the new MMS toggle is on.As soon as I restarted my phone, I had the new toggle, which was turned on by default. Thanks for all the help! A barebones I-phone sucks, nothing like being jailbroken!!

Ok so I got MMS to work I have a 3g 3.0 8g i HAVE WINDOWS VISTA 64 I ran cmd as an admin I think you have to type in the cmd not copy and paste “C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe”/setPrefInt carrier-testing 1 it has to be typed with the quotaition and the spaces included after i pressed enter i followed the rest of the steps and voila works like a charm… actually the (x86) part for VISTA 64 users wasnt found until I read the comments and another MMS hack site hope this helps 3G 3.0 users

    6. Change the file type to “iPhone Carrier Configuration files” by clicking in the the bottom right corner and switching to *.ipcc.

if you don’t do this, it doesn’t show.

Ok, I got the MMS to work on my phone after several tries. First couple of tries seem to have gone smoothly, no errors popped out or anything. But after rebooting and checking the Message icon, I saw no camera. So I checked Network> Phone Data Settings and nothing was there. At this point I was little frustated, so I opened Cydia and deleted my theme boards etc. I rebooted than tried again however it still wasnt working. So i tried using another ipcc file thinking maybe that where the problem was(at the end i dont think it was). So I tried again, no errors are coming up, everrything updates properly but still no camera icon on my Message app. So I finally decide to check the small details which were Settings>Messages>Turn on MMS lol.

So after all that, it seems like Visual Voicemail, Tethering, and MMS work. The only problem though is that my Phone Data Settings doesn’t show up more. >?<

Anyhow, I hope my troubleshootingh helps.

thing and i get ” The filename, directory name, or valume label syntax is incorrect.” i do change “C” to a “D” cuz thats what my windows is running on.

I am not sure about switching the C to a D wouldnt hurt to try… I typed in the command exactly how the author had it …altho since i was on 64 vista I had to use (x86) after Files hope this helps …I also used spaces where indicated..it took a few times but it eventually did work

Ok I cannot get past the command prompt! Step one has me dead in the water. Two different computers and I can’t get either to work. I’ve tried all sorts of variation to no avail. One computer is running XP, the other Vista 32bit.

Make sure you type everything in. Do not cut & paste. If you cut & paste it will not work. Hope that helps.

Do you have to jailbreak your iphone to do this?
and will the process give your computer a virus?
