According to Saurik the update; “fixes the issues some extensions (like WinterBoard) are having with the new dyld “shared cache” in iPhone OS 3.1.” So, if you are on firmware 3.1, WinterBoard should work properly once you update to the new version of Mobile Substrate.

Waiting for 3.1 JB for Windows, do not own a mac yet. Hopefully it will not be long. I am also getting the impression that the carrier file that has to be loaded from iTunes on the 25th for the MMS to work will probably force you to update to 3.1 as well so i’ll probably hold off on that. I have MMS enabled on my JB OS 3.0.1 so hopefully when the “opt-out” is removed on the 25th it will actually work. I am able to attach files/photos however it does not send them. Red exclamation mark beside the MMS that reads message not sent.
Guess i’ll have to wait and see.

I haven’t had a chance to update to 3.1 yet. If you have syslogd on your phone and are having crashing issues with WeatherIcon, can you send me your /var/log/syslog file at dashman_at_gmail_dot_com?

I have a jailbroken 3G iphone with 3.0 OS running. When I updated to this new version of Cydia, my phone got reset (on its own) in the middle of the installation process. When it came back, everything works fine but now Cydia DOES NOT WORK. It just crashes 6 seconds into the “reloading” process.
    Any ideas?

    Kroo on September 16th, 2009 4:27 pm:

If it does that every time, your only option is to jailbreak again. Core components must be missing so, maybe a chance to step up to 3.1.

    Alex on September 16th, 2009 6:28 pm:

Same thing happened to me. Now cydia is not working

    Sean on September 16th, 2009 9:07 pm:

I had this happen to me before. There are but only a few places out there to check for help. There is a corrupted data file and if you SSH or Diskaid or however you access your data on your iPhone, go to var/lib/dpkg/updates and remove the info in the folder and then try to start Cydia. That worked for me the last time. You should then be able to reinstall the update. Sometimes, even though saurik says it’s nondependent, I’ve found it better to update individual components instead of updating all. However, I did the full update today (by clicking Update All) and had no problems. Hope this helps!!

    Sean on September 16th, 2009 9:10 pm:

Oh! And no, it doesn’t mean you have to re-jailbreak as this is supposedly the only corrupted file that causes this Cydia crash. Found out how to fix this pretty easy by searching “Cydia crash on startup” in Google and then weeding through results until I found something that was viable. Did it again after reading this comment thread to make sure nothing new had been said on this matter.

    Allen on September 16th, 2009 10:22 pm:

my iPhone 3G OS 3.0 crash once after installation, it works fine after. Just saw a update on cydia, you guys may want to give that a try.

    DaxRichards on September 17th, 2009 9:04 am:

I think Kroo you are correct. Looks like my only option is to install OS 3.1 and then jailbreak it again.
Unless someone can tell me how to re-install Cydia seperately.

    Sean on September 17th, 2009 9:26 am:

    - Shell access (terminal or ssh)
    - Su to root
    - dpkg -configure -a
    - apt-get update
    - apt-get install cydia (if this fails add –fix-missing)
    - apt-get upgrade (to install mobilesubstrate correctly)
    - reboot

    This will reinstall everything.

    Sean on September 17th, 2009 9:37 am:

2 dashes in front of ‘configure’ ie. –configure. And by ‘reinstall everything I mean Cydia and Mobile Substrate.

Confucius says, “Do not use a cannon to kill a mosquito.”

    DaxRichards on September 17th, 2009 10:58 am:

    Thanks a LOT Sean.
I’ll try my hand at my rusted UNIX skills.
Hope I don’t mess it up.

BTW, I have SSH installed but how do I terminal into it?
Sorry for such a noob question. Just did not want to Google it.
(BTW, I have a Windows machine.)

    Sean on September 18th, 2009 3:53 pm:

The actual commands may be different with a Windoze machine. I cannot say for sure as I use a Mac and would have to dust off even rustier DOS skills ;)

My recommendation would be to grab a quick search for these commands as they will pull up a better explanation. I’m just a mere code hobbyist not a pro!

  7. DaxRichards on September 17th, 2009 11:31 am:

    Funny thing happened.
All I did was to connect my computer to the phone via WinSCP (to open the terminal app.) and tried to follow Sean’s steps unsuccessfully.

But guess what? I found the following link and I downloaded their Clear Cydia App.
And just before I was about to actually run the Clear Cydia exe file, I connected my phone to the PC via the usb cable and I tried to run Cydia for 1 last time.
Cydia worked !! I guess my phone needed to be connected to the PC for Cydia to clear its cache or something.
But anyways, here is the link to the actual ClearCache.exe , the related steps and even a video to show you how its done. Its a 1 minute process:

Best of Luck y’all and thanks to Sean and others for replying and helping me out. God Bless.

I had the same problem with Mobile Substrate being an old version and not upgrading in Cydia. Thus constant safe mode with Winterboard installed.

After doing some research I realized I did not have the current source for Saurik

So all I did is add this in my sources in Cydia

    http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7/

    And all is well now

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers!

    Hi saurik,

I have just updated my mobile substrate to the latest version
(0.9.3087-1) but I cannot make or receive a call after updating. It
was just fine before installing mobile substrate. After installing it
I rebooted the device. Then it took a little longer than usual to get
my carrier name. But when i tried to make a call it took a long time
hanging and then i get ‘call failed’.
Even though i could make a call sometimes but most of the time its not calling. And receiving a call doesnt work at, i get my voicemail.

I am in Belgium. My carrier is Base. My device is iphone 2g. (FW 3.2.1)

Some one please help me fixing this or tell how i can roll back to the previous
    mobile substrate version.

    Thank you.
