Dev Team Talks about 3.1.2 Firmware

##ICON_NAME## Yesterday, Apple released firmware 3.1.2. Yes, I know this happened yesterday, but we are currently on vacation in the beautiful countryside of Wisconsin and our AT&T Cellular Data Card is having sketchy service (go figure). :)

According to the Dev Team, you will want to hold off on up upgrading because neither PwnageTool or redsn0w work on 3.1.2. Below is what they had to say on their blog.

WARNING! At 10.20AM PDT on October 8th 2009 Apple released the 3.1.2 version (7D11) of the iPhoneOS.

If you care about your jailbreak and unlock, don’t update your device – 3G and 3G(S) owners should pay particular attention to this warning.

PwnageTool and redsn0w are not yet compatible with 3.1.2
There is no estimated release time for compatible tools (please don’t bug us about this).
Any information we have regarding this update will be posted here.

  1. Cory Gillmore says

I was wondering where you guys were on this huge story…

  2. “PwnageTool and redsn0w are not yet compatible with 3.1.2”

Has redsn0w been compatible with 3.1 at all?

    • Nope they are slacking a bit but it must be really hard to break… Apple got there stuff together this time around it looks like…

  3. They are a pretty smart group of people. They will come to a solution when given time.

  4. I’m a a point where I would rather have an iPhone with up to date firmware, than Cydia. When i seriously weigh the pros and cons of jailbreaking and having to endure all of these dire messages from the Dev-Team, all I can say is ho hum. I’m a power user. My power is in no way impeded by not having a jailbreak. And I’ve been jailbroken since day one. I don’t miss it one bit. It just adds more for me to play with, but nothing else, except a 5 icon doc and open SSH, which I hardly used in the past year.

    • Really? I love all the tweaks and being able to customize my phone. Most of Apple’s updates don’t even change much. But since we pay for our own device, it’s up to us do decide what we want to do with it (or is it?).

    • It’s all about something to play with for me and not about something I really need. I’ve grown tired of the endless themes, and frankly, there’s nothing in Cydia that really turns me on. Also, since he started selling apps on Cydia, I’ve asked myself why I need two commercial entities sitting on my iPhone. When he was pure and free I felt a lot different about Cydia and Jay.

    • For me, the iphone is only half useful without Intelliscreen. I’m the opposite of you. I never upgrade now until a jailbreak catches up. Quick replies on SMS messages is also quite handy.

    • Hey has anyone read and/or heard anything about Apple trying to get jailbreaking illegalized? I haven’t heard anything. Last I read somewhere (I think here) was that the decision was to be made in October (???)…

Anyway, I jailbreak my device for all the extra tweaks like SBSettings, 6-Icon dock, themes, backgrounding, virtual memory increases, filesystem access (which I use in conjunction with Safari Download Manager), YourTube (the ability to actually DOWNLOAD youtube video and store it locally, 3G Unrestrictor to unrestrict Apple’s and AT&T’s grip on my iDevice… And that’s all just SOME of the things I use the jailbreak for. There are many more that I can’t think of quickly right now.

But I think I will be jailbreaking my iPhone for as long as the Dev Team or GeoHot can release them for us.! :D

  5. Strange chronic dev team claims the update changed nothing it is just a bug fix. They make it seems like all the dev-team have to do is have pawnage tool recognize 3.103.

  6. Just wondering… Why would you want to take a vacation in Wisconsin ?

  7. We to Superior every year. Sometimes we catch a white Christmas, but travel is always a pain. Anyway…

I keep my iPhone (3Gs) updated as recent as the jailbreak. There are way to many things available to save me time. eg: Notifier, iBlacklist, Backgrounder, Bosspaper, MyProfiles, Lockdown, Catagories, etc.. This is truly the most awesomest :) PDA. Any that is an understatement.

My son keeps his 3G on the Jailbreak version also just to have the themes.

  8. Yeah, i agree. Jailbreaking my iphone is so worth it. I would’t update without knowing a jailbreak is available. My bitesms is something I couldn’t be without.

  9. SSDD!!! like normal…

  10. if you don’t care about jailbreaking why are you on this site? go dev team <3

  11. I feel like that apple updates (after the decimal point) aren’t even that significant. There’s no way I would want to lose all the useful functions of a jailbroken phone for updates that don’t really do that much.

  12. This update looks like it updates the carrier file too so no more tethering for now. I’m still waiting for a 3.1 jailbreak update for Windows so I can get all of the 3.1 apps on my 3g

PS: didn’t the dev team say that they were going to discontinue PwnageTool and only go with redsn0w?

  13. Hi,

I have a 2g iphone, how can i update it to the latest firmware and jailbreak and then unlock it using windows..? Any help would be appreciated….Thanks
