A couple of notes.

If you don't like dropouts on internet radio you can forget about HD radio. The complaints over signal strength/reception are numerous plus the fact if a first-adjacent FM has a good reception day your HD won't work.

Second, forget about higher quality especially if the FM has HD2 and even more so if it has HD3. Internet radio will sound much better. And does this thing do AM? If it does you will get a new appreciation for the quality of internet radio.

You can buy this accessory, but keep the receipt.

I have been using Slacker, Pandora, Paradise Radio etc. since their inception (several years now), and yet I've been searching for the right HD radio. Why? The transmission is of higher quality; it's more local in orientation; droputs are a problem with mobile Internet radio; and sometimes you just want radio like the old days. Maybe to listen to sports or local news or local personalities, or maybe just because you feel like it. Maybe you just wanna hear an AAMCO commercial again. Having it all in higher quality is icing on the cake.

I don't think HD radio via Gigaware dongle is a good invest in comparison to apps like Slacker radio, Pandora, Pocket radio, etc. And I use Slacker radio religiously. You can't really beat the variety of music commercial free. In addition, the iPhone comes with unlimited data. The only question is, are you in a 3G/WIFI area? Though most of these radio apps require at least Edge, the network determines the streaming quality.
