fring Announces Video Calling

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

fring, an application that lets users communicate and share web-based experiences from their mobile devices, has announced video calling.

“Right now iPhone and iPod touch users can receive and make fring and Skype video calls entirely over Internet connection (for free!) and see the person on the other end. When a front camera is placed on these, we’ll have two-way video calls available here too just as we do on all the supported Nokia devices.”

Video calling can be used over WiFi and is currently only one-way (due to the fact that the iPhone’s camera is on the back of the device). You are able to video call someone on Skype, using fring, but you will only be able to see the other person… they will not be able to see you. This feature is part of the newest version of fring so you will need to update fring in order to use it.

“Now iPhone and iPod touch users can also live video with their fring and Skype buddies, while on the go! The new fring version with video calls support is currently available to users with iPhone/ iPod touch OS 3.0 (only incoming video-stream available, due to the location of the camera on iPhone/iPod)”

  1. That video is so fake one they said u need wifii so all them places they went had wifi bs I’m still gonna try it tho

  2. they said it was a video demo man… just a demo!

  3. If Apple and AT&T want to do away with the competition for good, Apple should put a camera on the front and AT&T should support video chat on the iPhone.

  4. I haven’t tried this out yet but what has been your guys experience with it? How does it work? Do you simply face the camera toward you, speak….then turn your phone around to view the person on the line? Although this is not the ideal solution, this could still be fun and could work. I would use this an 3gUnrestrictor to free it from the wifi limitations.

  5. Phil "the real 007" says

I agree, place the camera on the front of the phone and allow video chat for a small monthly fee…and watch Verizon and their bogus commericals go Away forever.
