Cydia encountered a section with no package header [fix]

cydiaMy Cydia app hasn’t been working lately. I’ve been getting the error “Cydia encountered a section with no package header”, then most of Cydia won’t work. I tried reinstalling Cydia but that didn’t work. After searching around, I found a fix that worked for me. You’ll need to have SSH installed, or use an app like Disk Aid, so you can see the file structure of your iPhone and delete some stuff.

Here’s where you need to go to delete the files. /private/var/lib/apt/lists/ Make sure you do not delete the folder “partial”! You can delete all the other files in that folder.

After doing this your Cydia should be back to working again. :)

Operation Chokehold: Attempt to Bring Down AT&T Network

AT&TRecently, AT&T has hinted at charging high bandwidth users more for their data usage. Apparently, people are a little unhappy about it and are going to attempt to bring AT&T “to it’s knees”. How? A website called “The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs” has asked it’s readers to join them by using as much data over the cellular network as possible on Friday, December 18th at noon Pacific.

Subject: Operation Chokehold
On Friday, December 18, at noon Pacific time, we will attempt to overwhelm the AT&T data network and bring it to its knees. The goal is to have every iPhone user (or as many as we can) turn on a data intensive app and run that app for one solid hour. Send the message to AT&T that we are sick of their substandard network and sick of their abusive comments. The idea is we’ll create a digital flash mob. We’re calling it in Operation Chokehold. Join us and speak truth to power!

If you’d like to get involved, here’s some tips. Obviously, turn off your Wifi; the point here is to bog down the cellular network so you’ll want to avoid connecting to a local wireless network. Also, you’ll want to use a high bandwidth app like YouTube or other video website. Make sure you check out the comments on the blog linked to above, there are some great ideas on using up bandwidth like NASA’s live video stream or Ustream’s new uploader.

Do you plan on joining in Operation Chokehold? (Bring Down AT&T Network)

AT&T Commercials – AT&T: By Numbers, Headless and Marbles

##ICON_NAME## AT&T has recently released a few more commercials. Two of them are the typical Luke Wilson commercials comparing AT&T to Verizon and third (released today) gives statistics on AT&T’s overall network… it’s a little boring but, it does have some interesting numbers.

Police Scannner 1.2.2 Update

Available In: App Store       Price: $2.99

Police ScannerA recent update to an application called Police Scanner got my attention to the app. Although it’s been out since March of this year, I’ve never seen it. With over 100,000 apps in the App Store I’m not sure now that happens. /sarcasm I checked out the app and read that I could check out if stations were available in my area before I purchased the app. You just visit radioreference.com and you can find your area. Awesome for me because city, county and highway patrol are all available in my area.

A great feature of this app is the near me option. This uses your current location to find scanner streams near you. This becomes very useful when traveling and you can even favorite channels and see them in a separate list. Also very useful, and one of the recent updates, is a list of police codes commonly used when communicating back to dispatch. The stream continues when you move around the app so can keep listening while viewing the codes.

Of course, if you’re jailbroken, this app gets even better with backgrounder. The app runs great in the back ground and runs fine on 3G and even EDGE connection.

Apple Redesigns iTunes App Store

App StoreWhile looking at a new app this morning, I noticed the App Store in iTunes on my Mac had been redesigned. The screenshots seem bigger, a sidebar to the left with stats about the app, the descriptions starts small and can be expanded by clicking “more”. I like it so far. This may be part of the redesign before they release iTunes to be viewable on the web (recent rumors).

Ustream + Backgrounder = Live Streaming Apps

UstreamOk, so today I was at Sports Clips getting my son’s hair cut and Buffalo Wild Wings next door has wifi so I decided to test out the Ustream app some more. I wanted to tweet about it so I used backgrounder to keep Ustream running in the background while I tweeted. What I found out later when I got home to watch the video is if you combine Ustream with Backgrounder it streams your springboard along with any app that’s running. Unfortunately it only streams the top half to two thirds of your screen. Check out the videos below:

The website is technically still in beta even though it is no longer invite only. They have made a few changes to the website including some new features and a few design changes.
