  1. i’m not getting one because i feel it’s not really worth it at the moment. but that’s just my opinion. maybe if it’s jailbreakable like the iphone and can be customized more than apple allows it to be then i’ll think about it. as it stands my iphone 3gs (though much smaller) is just fine.

    • I agree! Other than size i really dont see a difference.

    • I agree. Essentially it’s a larger glorified iPod Touch. I can’t dock my iPhone to it, nor use it for ichats, it runs the iPhone OS, and doesn’t have Flash.
It will be a good device for older people who require a larger viewing space and for yuppies who enjoy spending money frivolously.

  2. It should be called BigPodTouch, does it support flash at least?

  3. WUU! Bigpodtouch.. Bigpodtouch!!

  4. Id buy it if had flash and like 120 gb hd…but no thanks to apple

  5. That ipad is a HUGE failure. If u want to buy one of these thing… There goes 500$ out the window. This is pointless. Its jus a bigger ipod touch. Great its got better hardware than the iphone and itouch, but wat bout software? Theres no multitasking and no flash. No thanks i dont want a huge ipod wen i got a perfectly good iphone… That actually fits in mi pocket

    • Why on earth would you want Flash? Multitasking, I understand. That will come.

“What about software?” Are you kidding? Ever used any on your iPhone? Apparently not.

    • ummmmm…. its supposed to be the ultimate browsing experience, and like it or not A LOT of websites use flash…. and it doesn’t support it.

      Fail.

    • Why wouldnt u want flash? Evryone was expectin a.big software update if it ran the iphone os. But nah its jus a big itouch. Pretty pointless if u ask me

    • What exactly do u want to multitask? Do u want to play two games at a time or what? Anyway, let’s just wait for iPhone OS 4.0 and see what it’ll offer.

    • I’d also like to understand what the big deal with multitasking is? My iphone is jailbroken, and I haven’t felt the need to try any of the “multitasking” mods. Every time I hear complaints about this, it’s usually that they can’t run Pandora while they do other things. Is that it? State is remembered pretty well between apps, so it seems to work fine for moving between documents.

I too would like to run Pandora in the background – but then again, I have an iPod on the iPhone, so it’s not like I don’t get any music. Other than that, it seems like a nice recipe for low battery life with little benefits.

All that being said, I’m not getting an iPad, because with the iPhone and a laptop, I don’t really have room for such a device. I could see this as the perfect machine for my parents, though. They don’t really work with the computer, just use it for pictures, mail and calendar and to play soduko – so the tablet seems perfect for them.

  6. Call it the iFlop! It’s another iTunes pipeline to help with the income stream — a kindle/nook with pictures, apps and color.

  7. Maybe Gen 2 or 3 if it survives that long. I’m afraid it will be a failure though!

  8. yea i bought an ipad like a year ago….. when it was called iPod Touch.

  9. Doug Chapin says

I use my iPhone all the time as an in car DVD player for the kids (mount it hanging from the sun roof- works great). iPad = bigger screen and better sound. I also use Tom Tom on my iPhone all the time. A bigger screen and better speaker would be great! My 4 year olds play games ALL THE TIME on my iPhone. I bet they would love the games on a bigger screen (especially all the reading and math apps). However, I may wait until v2 (which will most likely have HD1080 out and maybe a camera)

  10. I will get one. I love books, and I think Apple’s solution is just great.

Looks good, is not locked to any provider and I can get online whenever I want. This is what I missed with the iTouch.

And it has just the right size for reading – this is what I miss with the iPhone and the iTouch.

An organizer, foto frame, internet device, notepad, bookshelf, musiclibrary, moviecollection, maps, office software place. Long battery life.

As for multitasking, I still have not found out what I would need that for? Just dont know …. I am a single tasking person … I get mail notification in the background., that’s enough for me. If I want to read rss feeds, I open the app and get them. I don’t want to be bothered with minor important information when I am busy doing something else.

so much rejection here – I feel cold – better go back to brighter places.

    • Long battery life not it is apple hype. I have the latest 17 inch macbook pro which apple claims battery life is eight hours. I can only get three hours at best. The big Itouch will more than likely get only four hours.

    • U definitely can’t be serious tomcrown. What do u run on your macboook that consumes the power so much?

    • I use you tube a lot along with going to twitter , etc. If I do not use WIFI than I can increase the battery life. This also will be true for the IPAD. . Also I do Multitask and that eats up the battery; that is why the IPAD does not multitask.

  11. its a big disappointment, no USB drive Only 16 Gig, ( sucks )
No Built in Camera, Cant Use the 3G connection from my iphone ( Thether ).

Im very Disappointed that theres no support for FLASH objects….

So its just a big Itouch.

Anybody who smart will not throw away their money on something as useless as this, Apple has Disappointed me with Product.

    • you can always tether your iphone (jailbroken) to the ipad lol. not that that will make me get one. im just saying. :P

  13. Very disappointed. It’s just a big iPod touch. Was looking foward to sliding my AT&T card into it if it had a baseline. And no camera? Come on. And would really like apple to hash out there differences with adobe flash is a must for this device. I’m sorry but my iPhone will do more. So the ipad is a bust.

  14. Antony_256 says

I will. When its second iteration has been jailbroken.

  15. I’ll be getting either the 32GB 3G or the 64GB 3G. Haven’t decieded yet.

  16. I agree with the fact that this is just a big iPod Touch. It’s really another iTunes pipeline and it’s created to help with the income stream. I’m really disappointed. Apple has failed!

  17. I was ready to throw my moneys for this, but becouse it certanly doesnt replace netbooks becouse it doesnt do multitasking, I wont never buy it, until it can do multitasking. Iwas wery exited yesterday but have to say it’s big disapointment and failure. For that mone you can get netbook or cople of ipod touches witch seems like better deal.

  18. No multitask
No hard disk mode (to put presentations or documents on it and work on them when out of the office)
Only 16GB of storage for 500$, 64GB for … 700$+tax (are you kiding?)
    Add 130$ for 3G !!
No SD card reader (for displaying pictures right after shooting, for example)
I had expected a kind of notebook’touch, I finally got a big ipod touch

    No Buy…

  19. That is a looser gadget and I think they will be loosing mega $$$.
Also heard the name iPad is already taken over in europe like in France for one country.
Wish it was something I could get excited about.

  20. prometheus1981 says

Well, I always wanted a color Kindle. Now I can get one. iPad FTW!

  21. Jim Hanlon says

If they add multitasking, I’ll buy one and throw away my laptop; without multitasking, it is just another toy.

  22. I wanted to want one, but since it lacks a DVD drive I’m no longer interested.

  23. I’m thinking that if my wife & I each get one with 3G, and we get rid of our iPhones & go with a much cheaper basic phone/plan, we can actually save some money. I was very disapointed in the lack of multi-tasking, as well as the lack of a camera. I expect that iPad v2 will have LTE & a front facing iChat camera.
    Dim

  24. I was hoping I could use iPad to play iWork Keynote presentations instead of carrying my heavy Macbook Pro. BUT the iPad version of iWork clearly lacks full-functionality.

Hoho, and we have to use iTunes AGAIN to “sync”? Sorry, I like to manage and edit plus programming files by myself! Being ripped off this freedom really TICKS ME OFF!!! Which is the sole reason I stopped using my iPhone.

    One word,
    NOT BUYING!!!
    Er…I mean two.

  25. Steve Yobs says

Terrible idea. Nothing innovative. Pretty much a scale increase of an iPod touch.

  26. da187suspect says

I already have the 3GS, so I guess going with the iPad 3G would be a waste of money, I’ll probably go with the wifi version.

  27. This big fat IPHONE is apple failure. Thier are tablet units for $300 with more speed and better web support than this monkey. No flash or multitasking no big deal!!!

  28. Seriously? The only thing magical about the MaxiPad is how quick it’ll drain your wallet and pull the wool over the eyes of fanboys.

  29. Zack Hébert says

I don’t want the new tablet ’cause it’s only a giant iPod. Most importantly. there are tablet computers that run Windows 7 fine with far better specs than the tablet Apple is tryin’ to sell. Sure the 3G device is helpful, but those are sold on all the major cell carriers.

  30. I may get one but then again may not , as of now I’m still undecided. I will wait either way until it is jailbroken and I feel they really missed the boat with the use of a camera (pointing towards the user) for video skyping over the wifi. Can you imagine the amount of people using the video/webcam features in their homes instead of being tied to your computer you could have walked around the house. Such an interesting device with such short sighted uses I wonder if they just thought we’re not ready yet for video phoney on a mass scale.

  31. No doubt i would buy it if it had OS X. iPhone OS on a larger screen? i see no point on that.

Is it a giant iPod, not a smaller productivity helper (i mean, to replace a macbook, like netbooks replace laptops), and for that probably will get stuck on the “technologically advanced device’s limbo”.

  32. i won’t buy this because i already have an iphone which is smaller and supports voice calls.

  33. this is a joke. No multitasking? It’s not even a serious option to a netbook.
Even more, with no hard disk mode, how can I manage my documents?? What’s the use for iWork if I can’t upload documents I actually work in?
No camera? I don’t care about photos, but the iPad looks great for iChating, so a front camera is a must.

    • They never said it would not multi-task. Also, videos that Gizmodo took show the settings as having a ‘File Sharing” function. I think there is more to come. Alot can be completed in the two months that are left. They may be a jail break also….

  34. I would really like to get one with 3G to replace my iPhone now that Apple has lifted VoIP restrictions. But since it does not have a camera for iChats I think I will wait for the 2nd gen model.

  35. So… I think I will be getting one of these, but not until the second or third generation is out. Sure, I really want one now, but I think in time it will have:

    – An iSight camera (I mean, why not?? HUGE selling point)
    – More iPad Apps (Like, what if there was dreamweaver or photoshop? I know, it’s small but I don’t mind working on a small screen)
    – Multitasking (Maybe not, but it would be nice. If it did get PS or DW, I’d use those together, one in the background.

Also, couple of thoughts on the current version:

    – The iWork or whatever it has on it will be AWESOME!
    – The case you can buy will make it feel more like a laptop.
    – Bluetooth keyboard… win.
    – The app store. Another big win, plus, there might be less restrictions on the iPad applications allowed. I also don’t think I would mind jailbreaking it.

And another thing, this is not just a big iPod Touch! This is the step between an iPhone and a Laptop. I think with time, it will be better and be more like a netbook, and a freaking awesome netbook at that.

  36. No because of the 64gb size that’s sucks it should have like 250gb or something like that c’mon provide so real sizes for $849

  37. In one year, I wonder where the iPad will be? How many great applications will emerge? What kind of accessories will be made? Let’s all think outside of the box and image a jailbroken iPad or better yet a larger and faster iPhone that’s jailbroken………..from a different perspective this is going to be fantastic. I assume more than 50% of people who use their computers at home, use it mainly for web browsing. Now imagine web browsing on your couch, bed, wherever you please. It will be a totally new experience. That’s what this is aimed for. It’s not meant to replace a desktop or laptop. Let’s just wait and see…….

    I

  38. How come no one is talking about how they said nothing about the iPhone ?? OS 4.0 ? 4G ? I heard nothing…. thats what people care about!

  39. Mindblowerz says

    Fail!

  40. iPod Touch with a huge screen huh? You guys are right. I bet it will fail just like big screen TVs did.

    • It’s not so much an ipod touch but an interactive multitouch laptop screen that has the same functionality an ipod touch has. Which is awesome! Ever read an article or web page on an iphone or touch? I always wish i had a larger screen. Not to mention video. All the people saying that its just a bigger ipod touch and aren’t getting one for that reason alone go right ahead. That’s like saying you’d pass on a 42″ LED TV cause watching movies and playing games on your old 18″ works just fine. Personally I cant wait to get my hands on one.

    • Mikesgroove says

@caseace Me thinks you missed the sarcasm.

  41. Dancrossin13 says

I will get my Wife the 64G 3G for Mothers day and hopfully I will get the same for Fathers day.
We will also not activate the 3G unless we need to like for road trips to keep the kids quiet etc.

  42. I won’t be getting one, personally. I can’t see a use for it and I’m kind of disappointed it’s locked down on apple’s network! I like using software and think it would be far better if we could use it on this super enhanced, steroid munching iphone! I’ll stick with my mackbook pro and 3gs ;)

  43. TopTrendingTopics says

There were so many people talking about what the new iPhone will have on Twitter that it was one of the top trending topics for a while – check out the video at hhttp://www.joshrimer.com/jersey-shore-ifyoucheatonme-and-new-iphone-will-have/ to see some of the more entertaining ones in a funny video. :-)

  44. I am getting one because Steve said I need it. ;)

  45. This device is really cool, but if you have or wanted a kindle. Just like the ipod changed how we heard music, not having all those cd’s. How the iphone changed all that a 2nd time.

I really do not understand why we need cameras on all devices? Did people forget to buy or get a digital camera? yes, some phones have a camera, but this is a small portable netbook (super at that),so why all the disappointment?

I think i may get one,but the cheaper version and not with 3G,that is why i have a iphone,do not want to carry this thing around. Its just a nice thing to have at home or at a near wifi spot.

  46. • No Flash
    • No Multitasking
    • No USB ports
    • Camera would have been nice for video-conferencing

  47. Our great leader Steve Jobs has created this magical device that will forever change our lives. The spirit of the great apple has told me that I should get the 64 GB, but with or without 3G I do not know and will need to meditate and pray to the great apple for advice. Yes, a camera on the front would be nice, as my daughter loves to play with Photo Booth… and a larger hard drive would be awesome. The iBook app sounds ok and the longer battery life with a larger screen to watch movies on will be nice too, however, I doubt I would use it to listen to music when I could be using my smaller and more convenient iPhone. Still many pro’s and con’s but that is the goal of our great leader who always wants us to be wanting more and is continually leading us on to greater things to spend our money on. Why give us all we’ve ever wanted at one time???

“Why on earth would you want Flash? Multitasking, I understand. That will come.

    ___________

The point of having flash on an apple device would be benefic for both users and developpers. First, for users, you can browse on any website that doesn’t support mobile browsing (m.website.com) and have all the flash content ready to use. As for developpers, it would be a huge step in developpment. Instead of developping apps in Objective C (Apple’s object oriented programming language) , developpers could now make application using ActionScript (1,2 or 3) which is a bit more straightforward and easy to learn. The fact that you can’t see the point of having something doesn’t make it useless. Also, multitasking if the worst bs ever. Considering the fact that there is a built-in utility in Mac OS Mobile for multi-tasking, I still think adding an interface to it just makes it look one of those stupid Samsung OMNIA 2.

  49. Not many people will buy me? =(
But I’m made by Apple and I’m shiny!!!
    Buy me!!!

  50. my guess is as soon as the new iphone comes out it will support flash and multitasking. and when that happens they will have an update for the ipad to do the same. im sure they didnt want to include these thing to spoil any feature the new iphone will have. like, “hey the new ipad has flash and multitasking that means the new iphone will too”. thus ruining apples secrets.
