Jailbreak Firmware 3.1.3 With PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X

##ICON_NAME## Just in case you missed it, last week the Dev-Team released a jailbreak for firmware 3.1.3. Like every time a new firmware update/jailbreak is released, be sure you read all the info on the Dev-Team’s page before upgrading. There really is no huge reason to upgrade to firmware 3.1.3 it was basically just bug fixes but, if you must, check out the info below.

On Tuesday, Apple released firmware 3.1.3 for the iPhone and iPod touches. Unless you’ve personally observed a problem with the reporting of your battery percentage, there’s no reason to update to 3.1.3. We know some of you will want to anyway. Superbowl Sunday’s PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X will let you do so safely, preserving your jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock. (If you use the blacksn0w unlock (at baseband 05.11.07), you need to stay at 3.1.2.)

iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers should always be very wary to update their firmware. This is no exception. If you make a mistake along the way you may find yourself updating to official 3.1.3 in which case you will lose your unlock, possibly forever.

iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak.

If you really truly feel that you need to update, this version creates a custom 3.1.3 IPSW for you to restore to on your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS with early bootrom, iPod touch 1G, and iPod touch 2G with early bootrom. If you don’t know if you have an early bootrom or not, please avoid updating until you learn more.

  1. So what this means is that if you have 3.1.3, you can’t jailbreak. Right? I don’t understand this “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia” stuff. Maybe I did and maybe I didn’t. Who can remember? I know I can’t jailbreak because I tried it and it won’t communicate with my phone.

  2. i have a 3gs 3.1.2 which is jailbroken but everytime my battery dies or it reboots i have to do it again any help here what i can do

    • you have what is referred to as a “tethered” jailbreak. Your 3GS must have been recently purchased iphone with the new bootrom

  3. I also have a 3gs on firmware 3.1.2, but i have restore it, and when I tried to restore it again the Itunes says that i have to upgrade my iphone 3gs on the new firmware 3.1.3. So I have downloaded the restore firmware 3.1.2, but it does´nt work, I only get an error. Any help here, what should i do?

    • I believe if you put the phone in recovery mode you will be able to restore to 3.1.2 and run blackra1n after. The only thing is that the frimware will change but the band won’t, which means your phone will not reconize the sim card and you will not be able to make phone calls or use the 3g Internet only wifi

  4. Also if you are getting a 1015 error while restoring to 3.1.2, after getting that error run blackra1n and it should take it. But remember it only changes the frameware not the band so you lose the unlock hope that helped

  5. I’m using a 3g on version 3.1.3 (7E18) and modem Firmware 05.12.01, has there been a new release to unlock this series on windows? Any help will be much appreciated!
