Save iPhone 3GS, 3rd Gen iPod touch or iPad SHSH Using Windows

AutoSHSHWhen Apple releases a new firmware they don’t like people using older firmware. Sometimes jailbreaking new firmware takes a while and if you ever need to restore to your older firmware it won’t work unless you have your SHSH info. This only applies to the iPhone 3GS, 3rd Gen iPod touch and iPad because they all have a ECID in them which stands for “Exclusive Chip ID”. So, to restore to an older firmware you need the SHSH info for that info and for your device. To backup this info from your device there is a sweet little program called AutoSHSH. This is a Windows only program.

Once downloaded just follow these easy steps:
1. Open iTunes
2. Connect your device to the computer via USB

iPad 3G Released Today

AppleToday Apple releases the iPad 3G. The difference between the iPad and the iPad 3G are the 3G version has a cell phone chip in it and can connect to cell networks for internet. The iPad 3G also has GPS. In the US the carrier compatible with the iPad 3G is AT&T. Their pricing plans for data are $14.99 for 250MB usable for 30 days, or $29.99 for unlimited data usable for 30 days. These plans also include the free use of AT&T’s 20,000 Wifi hotspots. If you’re wondering which plan is better for you, check out this article by arstechnica which explains how one plan might work better for you.

– Apple is closing stores from 4-5pm to prepare for the launch.
– Phone calls and text messaging are not supported although VOIP apps like Skype are.
– Preorders over the web should be delivered to your home today.
– No contract: The data plans automatically renew every 30 days but can be canceled with no penalty
– For billing purposes, AT&T will assign you a “fake” mobile number.
– Data usage is tracked on device through Settings>Cellular Data
– When using the 250MB plan you will receive popup notifications when you hit 200MB, 225MB, and 250MB.
– Switching from plan to plan restarts your 30 day plan

Craigsphone Update – New Features & Improved UI

Available In: App Store       Price: $4.99

Craigsphone I have to admit… I have recently become a slight craigslist addict and Craigsphone is my app of choice. Yesterday, the app received an update. The update is a vast improvement over the previous version. Where things used to look messy and thrown together they now look sleek and clean… even the icon has a new look!

High Tech (USSR, Rave-Up, Clover & Negative Cells) – WinterBoard Theme

High Tech is a WinterBoard theme that is available in four colors; USSR (red), Rave-Up (blue), Clover (green) and Negative Cells (orange). All four themes contain the same mods (just in the different colors); 72 icons, 5 wallpapers, dock, loading screens, lock screen battery, badges, weather app mod, phone app mod and quite a few other UI mods.

The themes also contain UI sounds. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of UI sounds. If you are like me and would rather not have them, you can ssh (or use the iFile app right on your device) and locate the Library/Themes/the name of the theme you are using (ex. High Tech USSR.theme) and delete the UISounds folder. If you don’t want to delete the folder, you can just rename it to something else.

ScreenRecorderDemo – Free Version of ScreenRecorder

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

##ICON_NAME## For those of you who may have missed the full release of ScreenRecorder, it is a simple application that captures video of your device’s screen. ScreenRecorderDemo is actually a free, demo version of the same application. The demo version does have a few restrictions including; it will only record for 30 seconds, you are not able to email saved video files and it is ad supported. However, it is nice for those of you who would like to try it out before committing to the $1.99 price tag for the full version.

The app has been through a few changes since the first time we reviewed it so I will give you a quick overview.

Stock Wallpaper From iPhone Firmware 4.0

With the new 4.0 firmware you can display your wallpaper on your homescreen behind your icons. They’ve added a bold drop shadow behind each icon so you can see them better when using a background. You can set your wallpaper differently for your homescreen and your lockscreen. If some of you are jailbroken, or just want this for your lockscreen on a stock iPhone, here is the background photo from iPhone firmware 4.0. [Read more…]

Friday Night Movie Night: The iPad DJ

iPodThis is probably the reason that YouTube doesn’t allow every account to upload videos over 10 minutes long. This video is from Scobleizer’s account which can go over the 10 minute limit and so this video is 17:49. A little long but there is some sweet gear in this video and of course some sweet apps. This DJ is doing most everything from two iPads. Check out the video and I also have all the apps she used listed below.

iPhone Commercial – Family Man

##ICON_NAME## Apple has released a new iPhone commercial – Family Man. The commercial highlights the ability for the iPhone 3GS to capture and playback video as well as a few applications from the App Store (see list below).

I don’t know about you but, this commercial is soooo true for us! The grandparents really do like to see the videos, I totally use my iPhone all the time for cooking, our kids love to play games and watch videos and Doug uses his for everything (I’ve seen that guy do some pretty crazy things from his iPhone)… I’m pretty sure it never leaves his hands.

Bliss – WinterBoard Theme

Bliss is a WinterBoard theme that contains 100 icons, wallpaper, sliders, badges, dock, lock screen battery and a few other UI mods. The thing I like about this theme is it’s subtleness. The icons are simple, clean and easy to look at. The other UI mods are subtle but enough of a change to feel like your device has been modded. [Read more…]

Android Firmware Running on the iPhone [video]

GoogleI have been waiting for this for a while and actually forgot about it. Since Google Android is open source it makes it a little easier to install on the iPhone. Known in the hacking world as planetbeing, in the video he starts with the 1st Gen iPhone booted into the iPhone OS. Then after turning off and back on the iPhone, he shows how he hacked linux to dual boot and then load the Android software. A few things are a little weird, one being the fewer amount of buttons on the iPhone. In the video you see him make a call, receive a text and connect to wifi.

Today ToDo Pro – Unique ToDo Application

Available In: App Store       Price: $3.99

Today ToDo Pro Doug recorded this review a couple days ago (I’m sure why he didn’t post it… probably because of the light in the background that I forgot to turn off!). Either way, I really like Today ToDo Pro so I thought I would pass it along. I am constantly on the quest for the perfect todo app and this one really sticks out among the rest. The interface is simple and very unique, it has the features I’m looking for in a todo app and it is well designed. Check out Doug’s video review below.

The Case of the “Lost” iPhone 4G

##ICON_NAME## So, as many of you well know… Apple’s 4th generation iPhone has made it’s debut a little early. Personally, I’m a skeptic by nature (more on that later) but here is what we know.

Apple employee Gray Powell (Apple Software Engineer working on the iPhone Baseband Software) seems to be the fellow who was once the owner of the lost 4th generation iPhone. On Thursday, March 18th, he was apparently celebrating his 27th birthday at Gourmet Haus Staudt, a nice German beer garden in Redwood City, California (which happens to be just 20 miles from Apple’s Loop headquarters) where he “supposedly” had a few too many of those German ales. In fact, his last facebook update from the 4G iPhone was… [Read more…]

Doug just downloaded iCam today and it’s pretty cool… I’m totally using it to watch my three year old while he is taking his nap (or at least he is supposed to be!).
