Press Release

Opera today announced its popular mobile browser, Opera Mini has been approved for iPhone and iPod touch on the App Store. Opera Mini will be available as a free download within 24 hours, depending on market.

Opera Mini, with more than 50 million users worldwide, enables fast mobile Web browsing by compressing data by up to 90 percent before sending content to the device, resulting in significantly improved page loading. Users of the app will notice an uptake in speed, especially on slower networks such as the 2G Edge network. Surfing the Web with the Opera Mini App on iPhone and iPod touch will also help users save money because of its data compression capabilities. This will hold especially true while the user is incurring roaming charges.

“We are delighted to offer iPhone and iPod touch users a great browsing experience with the Opera Mini App,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “This app is another step toward Opera’s goal of bringing the Web to more people in more places.”

  1. Could Google Voice be far behind?

Opera does offer duplicate features in the iPhone.

  2. Andres Ramirez says

    It’s buggy.

Went to dpreview.com which I read all the time, and when clicking the links in the forum, I kept getting taken to the wrong place. Tried it many times. It always failed.

Went to safari to make sure it wasn’t the forums going crazy … safari worked fine.

Opera is very fast, but I can’t understand why it would be linking to the incorrect items. It either is not tracking the finger properly, or their caching system ( to make it go fast ) is buggy.

5 minutes with it was enough for me to remove it from the phone. Too bad. I wanted to have it replace Safari.

    • I’ve used Opera Mini and so far it’s not bad. But I also use Alt Browser which is in the AppStore as well and is a pretty fast browser without the rendering on any outside server. Try it out and see if you like the speed.

Typing this in opera right now. Not as good as safari. Maybe that’s why apple weren’t threatened.

  4. I agree, super fast and TONS of potential, but in its current state it can use some reworking. It loads sites improperly on occasion and some sites just dont look right, ie: mobile version of appleiphoneschool.com. Also there is some text overlapping on tomshardware.com, which is a site i frequent.

  5. its fast.. buh we wil see its progress eventually

  6. Anyone how to copy bookmark from safari to opera mini? And how to make it default?

  7. @todd… you have to download the opera desktop browser, and use opera’s link service to link the two together. Once you get it working, it’s pretty seamless. Just as good as my mobile me service, and I get to use opera mini.

  8. It’s awesome to go to see this website and reading the views of
all colleagues regarding this paragraph, while I am also keen of
    getting knowledge.
