Multiflow is a multitasking application. The app uses Backgrounder to start applications running in the background and then allows you to view and switch between the apps that are running in the background. It basically puts a GUI on the Backgrounder utility. Check out the demo video below.

This reminds me of an application that Steven Troughton-Smith (the developer of Stack and Orbit) posted a screenshot of last month.

The developer of Multiflow originally said the app was soon to be released in Cydia however, he has posted on his website that the app will most likely be available in Rock. A little bit of a bummer… according to one of our polls the majority of jailbroke users use Cydia.

What app do you use to get jailbroke applications onto your iPhone and/or iPod touch?

    * Cydia (77.0%, 2,403 Votes)
* Icy (2.0%, 69 Votes)
* Rock Your iPhone RockApp (7.0%, 206 Votes)
* Installer (4.0%, 114 Votes)
* I’m not jailbroke. (10.0%, 314 Votes)
Total Voters: 3,106

Start Date: September 23, 2009 @ 8:53 am

UPDATE: The website has been changed to say that Multiflow will be released in both Cydia and Rock. YAY!

Earlier this week, TomTom updated their app allowing the TomTom applications to be installed on the first gen iPhone and the first and second gen iPod touches. Previously, the app could only be installed on the iPhone 3G and 3GS. With the update to the app comes a new product… a TomTom Car Kit for the iPod touch.

The iPod touch Car Kit is priced at $99.95 ($20 less than the iPhone Car Kit). The Kit is currently not available and based on the iPhone Car Kit who knows when they will have it ready! Just kidding! They say it is coming soon and it can already be seen on TomTom’s website.
//-->

Note: Both the first gen iPhone and the iPod touch require a Car Kit because they do not contain the needed GPS receiver. So, if you want TomTom’s GPS on your first gen iPhone or iPod touch, you have no choice but to buy the TomTom app for $99.99 and the Car Kit for $99.95.

After you have activated the Cydget, you will need to go to your lock screen. The first time you view TwitLock on your lock screen you are prompted to sign into your twitter account. After you have successfully signed in you are able to post a tweet right from your lock screen.
You may have already seen this but, if not, it is an interesting read. It seems that The Little App Factory, a Mac shareware company, received a letter from Baker & McKenzie, the lawfirm that represents Apple.

In the letter the company is told that they must change the name of one of there most popular applications iPodRip and also remove the iPod image from another of their application’s logo.

iRip (formally iPodRip) is an application that allows the user to copy and transfer your songs from iPod™ & iPhone™ to your computer. iRip has been available since 2003 and has had over 5 million downloads.

The Co-owner of The Little App Factory decided to send Mr. Jobs an email addressing the request. Below is that email as well as the response.

    Dear Mr. Jobs,

    My name is John Devor and I’m the co-owner of a small Mac shareware company named The Little App Factory and a long-term Apple customer and shareholder. I doubt you’re aware but we recently received a letter from a law firm working on Apple’s behalf instructing us that we had violated several of Apple’s trademarks in our application iPodRip and asking us to cease using the name and Apple trademarks in our icons.

    We have been distributing iPodRip since 2003 with the aim of providing a method to recover music, movies and photos from iPods and iPhones in the event of a serious hardware failure on their Mac which leads to data loss. Our goal has been to provide the highest quality product coupled with the highest quality service in a bid to resolve some of the angst that is generated by such an ordeal; service befitting of an Apple product. In this department we think we have succeeded as we have approximately 6 million customers, many Apple employees, music artists and other notable people in society. In fact I’d argue that our customer service is the best of all competing applications in our niche as many of them are scams and frauds that leave Apple customers with a terrible taste in their collective mouths. We fear very much that tens of thousands of Apple customers looking to recover their own music and having heard of our product via word-of-mouth or otherwise, will instead find a product produced by one of our competitors, and will wind up the victim of a scam (one closely-named competitor charges a hidden monthly fee, for instance).

    It is quite obvious that we mean Apple no harm with the use of the name iPodRip, or of the inclusion of trademarked items in our icons, and in fact I believe that we have been providing an excellent secondary service to Apple customers that has potentially caused you many repeat clients. In fact, we are quite aware that Apple support and store staff have recommended our software on numerous occasions as far back as 2004 so we have felt that we were doing something right!

    With this in mind, we are in desperate need of some assistance and we beseech you to help us to protect our product and our shareware company, both of which we have put thousands upon thousands of hours of work into. Our company goal is to create Mac software of the highest quality with the best user experience possible. I myself dropped out of school recently to pursue a path in the Mac software industry, and you yourself have been a consistent inspiration for me.

    If there is anything at all you can do with regards to this matter, we would be most grateful.

    Best,

    John Devor

Surprisingly enough, John received a response to his email from Steve Jobs himself. Below is the response… sent from Jobs’ iPhone none the less!

Change your apps name. Not that big of a deal.

    Steve

    Sent from my iPhone

A short and pointed reply… I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say it was because he responded from his iPhone.

The Hands-Only CPR campaign “encourages bystanders to use Hands-Only CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) when an adult collapses and is unresponsive.”

As part of the campaign they have created a free iPhone and iPod touch application that provides clear instructions on how to perform Hands-Only CPR. The application contains two instructions on how to respond when an adult has collapsed and is unresponsive.

1) Call 911.
2) Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.

“For years the survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest has been abysmal,” said Clyde Yancy, M.D., American Heart Association president. “Bystanders hold the key to increasing survival. We hope this campaign will break through the barriers people have when they see someone in cardiac arrest – so that anyone who hears this message can help save a life.”

“Every day, nearly 800 Americans suffer sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospitals, according to the American Heart Association, and less than 10 percent will survive to hospital discharge. However, studies show providing CPR to an adult who has collapsed from a sudden cardiac arrest can more than double or triple that person’s chance of survival. Unfortunately, less than one-third of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims receive that help.”

CPR. A lifesaving action.

When an adult has a sudden cardiac arrest, his or her survival depends greatly on immediately getting CPR from someone nearby. Unfortunately, less than 1/3 of those people who experience a cardiac arrest at home, work or in a public location get that help. Most bystanders are worried that they might do something wrong or make things worse. That’s why the American Heart Association has simplified things.

Two steps to save a life.

If you see an adult suddenly collapse, you should perform Hands-Only CPR:

1) Call 911.
2) Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.

This application will teach you how to perform Hands-Only CPR through video instruction.

Press Release:

American Heart Association, Ad Council launch Hands-Only™ CPR campaign
DALLAS, Oct. 28, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — The Ad Council and American Heart Association today launched a national multimedia public service advertising (PSA) campaign that encourages bystanders to use Hands-Only CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) when an adult collapses and is unresponsive.

The PSAs — distributed to about 33,000 media outlets nationwide this week – will air and run in advertising time and space donated by the media. An integrated social media program will extend the reach of the PSA campaign online with strategies designed to engage and educate adults throughout the country.

Hands-Only CPR, or CPR without mouth-to-mouth breathing, is a two-step technique that involves calling 9-1-1 and pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest until professional help arrives.

“Hands-Only CPR is an easy and effective technique that has the potential to save lives every day if we can educate more Americans about it and reduce their fears and hesitation,” said Peggy Conlon, president and CEO of the Ad Council.

Forty-four percent of adults say they would not perform CPR because they’re not confident in their ability, according to a national American Heart Association survey conducted in 2008. Consumer research also shows that people often hesitate because they’re not comfortable with giving mouth-to-mouth CPR.

“This new campaign beautifully depicts the power of hands in helping to save a life,” Conlon said. “I believe it will empower more bystanders to take action when they see someone in cardiac arrest.”

Through the Hands-Only CPR campaign, the American Heart Association and Ad Council hope to reach all adults, particularly women age 55 years and older who are most likely to be the spouses of potential victims.

Created pro bono by Gotham Inc., an ad agency in New York, the campaign includes television, radio, print, outdoor and Web PSAs. The PSAs direct audiences to visit www.HandsOnlyCPR.org, where they can gain access to information and resources on the technique, including an instructional video.

The site also includes an online tool, “Hands Symphony,” where visitors can use their “hands” to create original music. Users can choose from a host of sounds created by different filmed hands to create their own track, and send it to their friends, encouraging them to create their own tracks, or add on to other friends’ tracks.

Visitors to the Web site can also download a free instructional application for their smartphone that teaches the technique. The application is available on the iPhone and iPod touch, Blackberry, Palm Pre and Android (Google) platforms.

“It’s a rare occasion when advertising can help save lives,” said Peter McGuinness, CEO of Gotham. “We hope that through this campaign, we can encourage all bystanders, trained or untrained, to do something when they see an adult suddenly collapse.”

###

Editor’s Note:
During a cardiac arrest, the heart suddenly stops beating normally and the victim collapse into unconsciousness. Oxygen-rich blood stops circulating. Without quick action, such as immediate CPR, a victim of cardiac arrest can die within four to six minutes.

Every day, nearly 800 Americans suffer sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospitals, according to the American Heart Association, and less than 10 percent will survive to hospital discharge. However, studies show providing CPR to an adult who has collapsed from a sudden cardiac arrest can more than double or triple that person’s chance of survival. Unfortunately, less than one-third of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims receive that help.

LUMA, by Walt Disney, is a unique puzzle game. The game has a simple objective, connect the lighted paths by linking the nodes. As easy as that sounds, the game provides a challenging game play.

The controls are nicely designed, you are able to rotate the lighted nodes using a control bar on the left side of the screen. As you rotate a node the lines inside the node will connect to the lines in the next node causing it to light up. You continue to connect the nodes until you have reached the end.

LUMA contains two game modes; Adventure and Survival. The Survival mode is locked until you have completed all the levels in Adventure mode. You are also able to view any acheivements you have unlocked.

A few things to note. You may only rotate nodes that are lighted and you do not have to use all the nodes on the screen. You only use as many nodes as are needed to connect the beginning to the end.

I have to be honest, I’m a puzzle-gameaholic… LUMA not only provides the challenge I love to see in a puzzle game it does so in a well-designed, entertaining and relaxing manner. If you are into puzzle games, LUMA is most definitely worth the $0.99 price tag.
