As I mentioned yesterday, the current redsn0w jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 is currently still a tethered jailbreak for some devices. The Dev-Team has updated their recent post on jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 with a definition of what a tethered jailbreak means. A great idea! Since most people are a little confused about what exactly a tethered jailbreak is. Below is the definition via the Dev-Team.

The Dev-Team has just updated their post about the new redsn0w jailbreak (which allows the ability to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1) saying that you should be on version 10.1 of iTunes to have the best jailbreaking results. They just added the disclaimer to the bottom of their current post.

Google Rolling Out Ability to Edit Google Docs via Mobile Browser [Video]

When I heard that Google had announced that, in the next few days, they will be rolling out the ability to edit Google docs from the mobile browser… I have to admit that my ears perked up. I know this might seem totally old school but I use Google docs for my grocery list (I know! There are a ton of apps in the App Store for grocery lists but I can’t help it… I always go back to Google docs). Anyway, I would LOVE (LOVE, LOVE… did I mention LOVE) to see an easier way edit my Google docs while out and about. Though, after checking out the demo video, I’m not sure if this is going to be the improvement I was looking for. I guess I will have to wait and see what I think about the new feature. Honestly I would just like to see an official Google Docs app in the App Store. Below is more info about the new Edit feature including a demo video (done on a droid!!).

Change the Font Color and Style for LockInfo

Lockinfo White Text is a mod that changes the font color and style for LockInfo (a feature-packed lock screen mod). Normally, on LockInfo, the title font is white and the rest of the text is gray. This mod changes all the text to white and italicizes the title font to help differentiate between the title and the rest of the text. This mod would come in handy if you have a lock screen background that makes it difficult to read the gray text. Overall the mod worked exactly how I expected it to. I was able to activate and deactivate it without a problem.
The mod can be activated/deactivated using WinterBoard and is available via the BigBoss source. Check out the screenshots below.

iTunes Gets the Beatles [Videos]

So, Apple’s big iTunes announcement that we mentioned yesterday was that the Beatles will finally be available on iTunes. If you know anything about the Beatles and their history with Apple… you will understand what a big deal this is. With the news of the Beatles in iTunes, Apple also launched an ad campaign to promote the event. Below are five ads featuring the songs; “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “All You Need Is Love,” “Let It Be,” “Yesterday” and “Here Comes the Sun.” Check out the videos below.

No Badges – Remove Home Screen Badges

No Badges is a simple hack that removes the badges from the icons on your device’s homescreen. The hack is super simple… once you install it via Cydia and respring your springboard… you will no longer have badges. There are no setting for the app and it will not put an icon on your springboard. It just does the mod automatically when the app is installed. To get your badges back, just go into Cydia and remove the app. No Badges worked perfectly when I tested both installing and removing it. A nice little hack if it is what you are looking for. Personally, I would love to see the app have a few options such as the ability to turn off badges for specific applications (like the Mail app!) and leave badges on other apps. You can get No Badges via the BigBoss source.

New Poll – Have you paid for a theme?
I have always been curious about this… do people pay for themes? I personally have never paid for a theme in Cydia but honestly, that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t if I found one I really liked. I think Doug has bought a theme or two. If you have purchased a theme… let us know in the comments which one and if you thought it was worth the $.
Side Note: Not gonna lie… Smoog is still my favorite theme… I’m rockin’ it right now!
What the Dev-Team Says You Need to Know Before the Release of iOS 4.2
The Dev-Team has put an update on their blog about what you need to know before the release of iOS 4.2. Below is what they have to say about both jailbreaking and unlocking.
Update #2: By all accounts, we’re within a few days of Apple’s official public release of Firmware 4.2. Here’s what you need to know:
• Thanks to geohot’s limera1n exploit, and our original pwnage2 exploit, and @pod2g’s ipod2g-MC exploit, absolutely all devices at all iOS firmware versions are capable of being jailbroken.
• The untethered jailbreak of those very latest FWs and latest devices depends on @comex hacks. His hacks so far extend only to 4.1 and 4.2beta3. He’s working on a way to extend it to 4.2 and beyond. Just wait for him to work out his method.
• iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers will be covered by our upcoming unlock. Stay away from any updates to Apple FW until our official release and you’ll be okay. Just stay away from all Apple IPSWs :)
• iPhone4 unlockers are not left out in the cold. @sherif_hashim has found some very promising avenues to pursue. Those will be explored as soon as possible after all the 4.2 madness. What does this mean to you?
• If you’re an unlocker, just stay where you are. Please, just stay where you are. Any mistakes you make now may be permanent.
• If you only care about the jailbreak and you’re absolutely sure you have your personalized 4.1 SHSH hashes, feel free to experiment but keep in mind that any mistakes you make may result in your losing pictures or notes or bookmarks that you’d rather keep. Honestly unless you love living on the bleeding edge, it’s better to just wait for official updates from Cydia/redsn0w/PwnageTool.
• Don’t buy or donate to any unlock or jailbreak scammers. Every legitimate solution you will find for unlocks or jailbreaks will be offered without an extended hand. That’s how the iPhone jailbreak/unlock community has succeeded. It’s about freedom to do what you want with your $300 device — not about donations, egos, tweets, or “interviews.”
