The starting price seems a little high compared to similar products from other companies starting at $199 and the iPad mini starting at $329. The iPod touch starts at $199 for the 4th Gen and $299 for the 5th Gen. The iPad 2 starts at $399 and iPad 4 starts at $499. I think there needs to be some tweaking to the iPod touch & iPod mini pricing. Either way, you sure do have a lot of price range when shopping for an iOS device.

It will be interesting to see how clear the screen looks. I’m used to a retina iPhone, retina iPad and retina MacBook. I’m not sure I’d use an iPad mini if I had it in my arsenal. Having the iPhone 5 when I’m mobile is enough I think. And if I’m going to take the time to use and iPad, I’d want the bigger screen. I think my kids would love one. It would be easier for them to hold and carry. I think it would also work for someone that has a purse or bag with them all the time that it would fit in.

I currently use a set of Bluetooth Jaybird Freedom headphones for working out and things. When video editing, I just use some cheap in ears I got with an old HP Laptop. There’s too much lag in the Bluetooth to edit with them. I’m most excited for my wife who has such small ears almost no headphones fit in them.

I like in the intro how Jony talks about the “unique relationship people have with their iPhone.” What he’s basically saying is that we’re all addicted to our iPhones. This video should show many out there that say the new iPhone 5 “isn’t that much different” and “not worth it” that Apple has changed almost everything on the entire device and is worth it. They’ve changed the screen, microphones, speakers, screen, processor, back cover, camera, dock connector, location of headphone jack, height of device, screen size, faster cellular data, faster wifi and that’s all just hardware. The new software add so much more. Yep, I’m an Apple fanboy. But I just don’t see what else you’d want. NFC is the only thing I’ve heard that people want and I think something like Passbook can work until NFC is more widely accepted.

11:52 AM – Keynote should begin in a few minutes!!! Sounds like the device will be called iPhone 5. Apple “accidentally” leaked it in search results on their website yesterday.

8:44 AM – Today Apple will announce the new features to it’s 6th iPhone. Will it be called the iPhone 5? The New iPhone? Will iOS 6 be released today? Golden Master? Will there be an iPad mini? New iPod touch? Find out today!

There are some great features and we are working on getting a hold of the firmware to start testing it out. Here is a list of just some of the many new features:

- Completely new Maps app with turn by turn directions, 3D flyover view, crowd sourcing traffic and designed by Apple
- Siri updates including sports, restaurant & movie info. Siri can now open apps.
- Facebook integration allows you to post photos, web pages and more straight to Facebook. Contacts and birthdays sync to your phone. Like apps and songs to post straight to your wall.
- Share your photo stream with others. Create new streams of specific photos. Comment on photos in shared streams and get notifications when others comment. Share photo streams on the web.
- New app from Apple called Passbook keeps all your tickets, coupons and gift cards in one app.
- FaceTime works over cellular connection.
- Phone app has new features like ability to reply to a phone call with a prefabbed text or remind you to call them back when you leave your current location.
- Do Not Disturb feature stops all notifications and calls except people you choose durring a certain time period.
- Mail app allows you to insert pictures and videos and has new VIP section for push notifications for only those on your list.
- Safari has synchronized browser tabs between devices using the cloud, full screen in landscape mode and ability to upload pictures to sites within the browser.
- New Guided Access feature allows iPad to block certain buttons and screen locations for people with autism or for use as a kiosk.
- Find my iPhone has a “Lost” mode and monitors it’s trail since it was lost.
- Find my Friends adds notifications for when your friend arrives or leaves a location.
- iTunes, iBooks and App Stores have been redesigned.

The next issue Apple addressed was adding multitasking gestures to the iPad 1. There is a hack in Cydia for this but now it’s not needed. You can just turn in on in your Settings app. Here’s a quick video of how these work:

Next is documents in iCloud were not syncing back to devices correctly and were even getting completely wiped out. Not kewl! I lost a lot of mine but between email and my iTunes backup, I restored them. Here’s an article explaining how I restored them. I don’t have a way to test this now so let us know if this helped you out.

Last, voice recognition has been improved for Australian users. Again, I don’t have a way to test this but if you feel this has or has not been improved, please share in the comments.
