The eBay iPhone and iPod touch application has received an update to version 1.5.0. The update add a few new features including Best Offer support with push notification, live countdown timers and the ability to share items via twitter, facebook and email. It seems the update is just in time for the Holiday season. You can view the full change log below.

The American Heart Association and Ad Council have launched an iPhone application in promotion of the Hands-Only CPR campaign. The Hands-Only CPR campaign “encourages bystanders to use Hands-Only CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) when an adult collapses and is unresponsive.”

As part of the campaign they have created a free iPhone and iPod touch application that provides clear instructions on how to perform Hands-Only CPR. The application contains two instructions on how to respond when an adult has collapsed and is unresponsive.

1) Call 911.
2) Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.

The app also provides video instructions on how to perform Hands-Only CPR as well as a audio queues that indicate the exact speed in which you should administer the compressions.

“For years the survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest has been abysmal,” said Clyde Yancy, M.D., American Heart Association president. “Bystanders hold the key to increasing survival. We hope this campaign will break through the barriers people have when they see someone in cardiac arrest – so that anyone who hears this message can help save a life.”

DALLAS, Oct. 28, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — The Ad Council and American Heart Association today launched a national multimedia public service advertising (PSA) campaign that encourages bystanders to use Hands-Only CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) when an adult collapses and is unresponsive.

The PSAs — distributed to about 33,000 media outlets nationwide this week – will air and run in advertising time and space donated by the media. An integrated social media program will extend the reach of the PSA campaign online with strategies designed to engage and educate adults throughout the country.

Hands-Only CPR, or CPR without mouth-to-mouth breathing, is a two-step technique that involves calling 9-1-1 and pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest until professional help arrives.

“Hands-Only CPR is an easy and effective technique that has the potential to save lives every day if we can educate more Americans about it and reduce their fears and hesitation,” said Peggy Conlon, president and CEO of the Ad Council.

Forty-four percent of adults say they would not perform CPR because they’re not confident in their ability, according to a national American Heart Association survey conducted in 2008. Consumer research also shows that people often hesitate because they’re not comfortable with giving mouth-to-mouth CPR.

“This new campaign beautifully depicts the power of hands in helping to save a life,” Conlon said. “I believe it will empower more bystanders to take action when they see someone in cardiac arrest.”

Through the Hands-Only CPR campaign, the American Heart Association and Ad Council hope to reach all adults, particularly women age 55 years and older who are most likely to be the spouses of potential victims.

“For years the survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest has been abysmal,” said Clyde Yancy, M.D., American Heart Association president. “Bystanders hold the key to increasing survival. The site also includes an online tool, “Hands Symphony,” where visitors can use their “hands” to create original music. Users can choose from a host of sounds created by different filmed hands to create their own track, and send it to their friends, encouraging them to create their own tracks, or add on to other friends’ tracks.

Visitors to the Web site can also download a free instructional application for their smartphone that teaches the technique. The application is available on the iPhone and iPod touch, Blackberry, Palm Pre and Android (Google) platforms.

LUMA, by Walt Disney, is a unique puzzle game. The game has a simple objective, connect the lighted paths by linking the nodes. As easy as that sounds, the game provides a challenging game play.

The controls are nicely designed, you are able to rotate the lighted nodes using a control bar on the left side of the screen. As you rotate a node the lines inside the node will connect to the lines in the next node causing it to light up. You continue to connect the nodes until you have reached the end.

LUMA contains two game modes; Adventure and Survival. The Survival mode is locked until you have completed all the levels in Adventure mode. You are also able to view any acheivements you have unlocked.

A few things to note. You may only rotate nodes that are lighted and you do not have to use all the nodes on the screen. You only use as many nodes as are needed to connect the beginning to the end.

I have to be honest, I’m a puzzle-gameaholic… LUMA not only provides the challenge I love to see in a puzzle game it does so in a well-designed, entertaining and relaxing manner. If you are into puzzle games, LUMA is most definitely worth the $0.99 price tag.

Tripod Camera is a multifunctional camera application containing features such as; Anti-Tilt, Anti-Shake, Timer, Full Screen Shutter, Vibrate mode, Fast Saving, 4x Digital Zoom, Tap-to-Focus (3GS only) and the ability to share photos.

In the settings of the application, you are able to turn on/off Anti-Tilt, Anti-Tilt, Anti-Shake, Time, Full Screen Shutter, Vibrate mode and Fast Saving. Each of these option have great descriptions in the settings… props for that!

On the main photo screen you are able to take a picture, zoom in on an image (1x – 4x digit zoom) and preview photos. When you are previewing photos you can easily share them on twitter, facebook, momo or via email. There is also a Tap-to-Focus option (3GS only) that can be enabled/disabled in the stock Settings application under the Tripod Camera option.

I found the Anti-tilt feature to work really well actually, all the features worked really well. I had a little trouble figuring out how the Anti-Shake feature worked but, that was total user error. You have to actually touch the Snap button and then it will automatically take the picture as soon as your iPhone is steady. I keep just waiting for it to take the picture without tapping the Snap button. My bad!

I also like the little features this app contains such as the hand at the top of the screen that tells you when your device is steady. It also displays the current zoom level and if you have a specific option turned on such as the Full Screen Shutter option.

Overall, Tripod Camera is a very nicely deigned and extrememly user friendly application. One of the better camera apps I have reviewed.

It is currently on sale for an introductory price of $1.99.

Ok, I’m to sure I like this to much. Shazam is the sweet, FREE app that allows you to see what song and artist is playing by sampling a clip using the iPhone’s microphone. I’m only guessing, but if they were smart they would make commission from every song they sell through iTunes. Apparently that’s not enough money. I’m sure it’s not cheap to have an unlimited subscription to a service that tags almost all songs. Either way, $4.99 seems like too much for their new, paid version. It’s supposed to be faster and have unlimited tagging. The free version, for new installs only, will be limited to 5 tags per month. If you already have the app, it works like it always has. We weren’t able to do deep testing as neither app would work for us tonight.

Woot Buzz is a simple application that will notify you when your keywords come up for sale at Woot.com, kids.woot.com, sellout.woot.com, wine.woot.com and shirts.woot.com.

This app is very simple… enter keywords and you will be notified via a free text message when those items become available on one of the five woot sites.

How to use Woot Buzz:

You will get a pop-up saying that you will be notified when that keyword is available on woot. It will take around 30 seconds for your keyword to show up in the Keywords section of the app. You can turn the app on/off and delete keywords in the Keywords option on the lower menu bar.

This application does not have a stellar design, it’s pretty simple, but it could definitely be a useful application especially coming into the Holiday season! Now, you don’t have to check all the woot sites everyday… you can get a text when the things you actually want go for sale! w00t!

There are a lot of twitter apps in the App Store actually, there are quite a few good twitter apps in the App Store. Personally, I have always been partial to Tweetie and like many people I was totally stoked about the release of Tweetie 2. I’m still a believer in the app, but lets just say it has it’s bugs. So, I was once again stoked to hear about the update to version 2.1 of the app.

The update to Tweetie 2 version 2.1 includes quite a few bug fixes (thank goodness) and also quite a few cool new features. According to TechCrunch, there are two features that they think we will like the most; “New-style retweets and geolocation support.”

TechCrunch gives a nice overview of three of the new featuers of Tweetie 2.1; Retweets, Geolocation and Lists. Below are a few snippets from there review but, you can check out their full article HERE.

The update is scheduled to be submitted to the App Store later this week and then, as we all know, will have to go through the approval process. We will let you know when it is available. It will be a free upgrade for Tweetie 2 owners.

Retweets
While Twitter has yet to enable the new-style retweets or geolocation for most accounts, Tweetie 2.1 offers a glimpse of how it will work. Tweets from accounts with the new retweet function show up in Tweetie 2.1’s stream. As promised, these are the tweets from the actual person who originally sent it, rather than the person doing the retweeting.

But Tweetie 2.1 highlights these retweets in a nice way. First of all, you see both the user icon for person who originally tweeted the item and the person retweeting it. The original tweeter’s icon is big, while the retweeter’s icon is small and stuck in the lower right hand corner (see image). These tweets are also tagged with a pinkish-red triangle in the upper right hand corner to let you know this is a retweet. Clicking on these tweets takes you to a page that shows you the tweet from the original source, but also says at the bottom “retweeted by @USERNAME.”

Geolocation
Likewise, Tweetie 2.1 also shows off Twitter’s new geolocation support. Again, for accounts that have it turned on, these tweets show up in Tweetie 2.1 with a tiny red location pin in the upper right hand corner. Clicking on these tweets takes you to the tweet’s page which also has a little map preview below it showing what city the tweet was sent from. Clicking on this map loads up a larger Google Map inside of Tweetie 2.1 that pinpoints the actual location with a red push pin.
