The update to biteSMS now allows you to the app as your default SMS app…very cool. Another cool new feature of the update is when you have a missed/unread text and you open biteSMS, it will open directly to the conversation with the missed text. Below is the full change log and screenshots.

biteSMS 2.0-1 Change Log:
    • Ability to make biteSMS the default SMS application (configured via biteSMS settings page, defaults to OFF).This controls the following characteristics:
        – If ON, when clicking to Reply to an incoming SMS alert, you’ll be taken into biteSMS instead of the Apple SMS application.
        – If ON, the badge that denotes how many SMS’s are unread will be shown against the biteSMS icon instead of the Apple SMS icon.
        – ON or OFF, incoming SMS messages containing biteSMS credits are handled in a more user friendly fashion.
    • Fixed the issue, whereby if an error was displayed during the sending of an SMS, then it would exit back to the Home screen.

• Improved matching of incoming SMS numbers against Contacts.
• For an unread SMS, upon starting biteSMS you will be taken directly to this SMS conversation (just like the Apple SMS app).

It seems that biteSMS has been ported to firmware 2.0. The app has most of the features that the previous version had. However, below is a list of a few features that are still being worked on.

- The “Default App” functionality is not yet implemented (it’s being coded as we speak)
- Adding a contact from the address book does not slide away the keyboard (it should, it’s a bug and is being fixed)

Other than that, the app looks and functions the same as normal. Also, if you upgraded iPhones and you still have credits from your previous iPhone, you should be able to get those no problem. If you are looking for a way to send cheap text messages…this just might be the app for you. You can get the app via Cydia, through the BigBoss source.

The update to version 1.19 of bitSMS makes a few updates to the application. It adds Danish and Spanish to the list of compatible languages. It is also said to improve the performance when rendering screens and scrolling. You are also able to switch between biteSMS and the stock SMS application. However, I could not get this feature to work! Let me know in the comments if it worked for you. You can get biteSMS through the Ste Packaging source.

biteSMS 1.18

The update to version 1.18 of biteSMS, a SMS replacement application, adds some cool new features. When you open the application and swipe on a text message, you now get a pop-up with the option to forward that message or delete it. In the previous version you were only able to forward a message. Another new features is multiple SIM support because the credits are linked to a SIM. The feature that I am most excited about is the ability to restore your credits right from the application!! I always feel bad when I email them to send me my credits AGAIN…due to the fact that I restore my iPhone so often. If you go into the Setting menu, you will see an option called Lost Your Credits. When selected, you can enter your phone number and then select Done to receive your credits (be sure to read the information at the top of the screen before entering your phone number). However, this feature did not work for me. I tried entering my phone number and I got a pop-up saying that is didn’t work and that I would need to email biteSMS. biteSMS 1.17

The update to version 1.17 of biteSMS does not make any visual changes to the application. It does add language support for Chinese and fix a few bugs. The bug fixes include, “Fixed Send via Carrier character encoding; Better error handling during the Sending process.” biteSMS is available through the Ste Packaging source.

The update to biteSMS adds two languages; Italian and Dutch. It also changes the SMS counter, at the bottom of the screen, so that it displays the total credits it will use to send the text message. This has been changed to account for the ability to forward text messages to multiple contacts. Which does make more sense. I must say, I am still a big fan of this application. It is simple, easy-to-use and well developed. biteSMS is available through the BigBoss source.

The update to biteSMS adds French and German translations! So, that is cool. It also changes the the order of the SMS Conversations so that they are in the same order as the Stock SMS application. Which is good for someone like me who uses both the stock SMS app and biteSMS for texting…it makes it much easier to find the conversation I am looking for! There were also a few bug fixes. The bug fixes include; fixed bug where credit voucher SMS was not accredited correctly and fixed bug where SMS text containing ‘>’ and ‘<’ could cause biteSMS to exit. Other than that, the application still functions that same. biteSMS is available through the Ste Packaging source.

biteSMS – Personal Experience

I used biteSMS for the first time today!! YAY! As many of you already know, I had purchased some biteSMS credits a while back and had not received them. I had planned on emailing them however, I have been too busy to do so. Well, today I received an email from them! Yes, from them. It was just a follow up email saying that they had noticed that I hadn’t used any of my credits and they were just checking to make sure I had received them and that biteSMS was working for me. Talk about customer service! Well, as it turns out, I had typed my phone number incorrectly and that is why I hadn’t received my credits. After I wrote them back with the correct phone number, I received the credits right away! I have heard from many of you that the customer service is great but, I must say, I’m very impressed! So, after I received the credits, I gave biteSMS a shot and it worked great. I personally use AT&T for text messaging but, if you are looking for a cheap way to send Texts I highly recommend using biteSMS. The update to biteSMS adds a very cool new feature…the ability to forward text massages!! When you are in a SMS Conversation, just swipe on the text you would like to forward. This will bring up a pop-up giving your the option to forward the message or to cancel. If select forward, it open a new window where you can choose who you would like the text to forward to. Very cool new feature! Another fixes that I was glad to see was that when your iPhone auto corrects a word…they are will always be visible now! There were also a few other changes (see list below). biteSMS is available through the Ste Packaging source. Screenshots below.

• Improved scrolling of text field when entering or editing a message.
• Support credit voucher SMS delivery to China.
• Changed 3 retries to 2 when sending via biteSMS, and improved information text when offering to switch to Mobile Carrier.

The update to biteSMS adds a SMS Counter. When you open biteSMS and then open one of your chat conversations, you will notice a new little icon in the lower left corner. That is the new SMS Counter. Other than that, there are no visual changes to the application. I have yet to actually use this application because I never received the credits I purchased. I will have to email them again!
