The update to BossPrefs (a Services app for controlling features on your iPhone…toggling WiFi, Bluetooth, Edge, etc) adds quite a few new features. When you open BossPrefs, you will notice two new icons on the dock; Power and Poof. The update integrates the Poof application into BossPrefs. It works just like poof, which means you will no longer need to have Poof installed. When you tap the Poof icon in BossPrefs, you will get a list of all the application on your SpringBoard. You can then hide an application by deleting it off the list (this does not delete the actual application…it will just take it off your SpringBoard, thus “hiding” it). You can see the list of your hidden applications by selecting the Hidden option in the upper right corner. Just tap them to unhide them.

The Power feature, when selected, allows you to do a Fest Respring, Respring, Reboot and Power Off your iPhone. The Fast Respring option will respring your SpringBoard without going to the lock screen, Respring will respring your SpringBoard to the lock screen, Reboot will do a hard reboot of your iPhone bringing it to the boot logo screen and Power Off will turn your iPhone completely off. What I love about this, is it puts all the power options into one application (instead of two or three). I also like that the power options are titled correctly, making it much more understandable as to what each option does.

These two options, Power and Poof, have also been added to the Congfi menu. They are added to the BossPrefs dock automatically however, you can take them off via the Congfi menu…just toggle off the Show Power Icon and the Show Poof Icon options to do so.

A few other things to note are that when you update an application that is hidden, it will show-up on your SpringBoard after you update it. All you need to do is open BossPrefs and close it and the icon will be hidden again. Also, if you are going to uninstall BossPrefs BE SURE to unhide all your application first. If you do not unhide them before uninstalling BossPrefs, they are not restored. Overall, a very good update. BossPrefs is available through the BigBoss source.

Note: I did notice a small glitch in the application. The options in the Power feature will show up if you select the Power feature right after you open the application. However, if you open the Poof feature and then go into the Power feature, it will display the Poof options instead of the Power options. You can close and reopen the application to get back into the Power options.

Update: The issue above has been resolved with version 1.70 of BossPrefs.

The update to BossTool 0.35 makes it compatible with version 1.1.3. So, for all of you who upgraded to 1.1.3 and miss having BossTool installed…here you go! If you have already installed BossTool, and you are not on 1.1.3,…you can still update with no problem. The update does change the Relocation features…instead of being able to relocate your Wallpaper, Ringtones and Applications it now gives you the option to relocate your Fonts, Ringtones and Applications. If you have already installed BossTool and used it to relocate your apps…it will show that you have already moved your Apps and will not allow you to select that option. If you relocated your Wallpapers the first time you installed BossTool…the shortcut will stay even though it is no longer an option. If this is your first time installing BossTool…read THIS post before installing!! BossTool is available in the Installer.app through the ModMyiFone.com source.

We have had a lot of questions on how to remove/reverse BossTool. I personally have never done this and must warn you that it is a little tricky and definately done “At Your Own Risk” but, if you would like to give it a shot, below are some instructions I found on ipodtouchfans.com via ali.bigolo.

You will first want to uninstall all your applications just to be safe because, the OS partition is smaller and it is safer to have only necessary stuff there.

1. Back up your Application folder. You can do this by OpenSSHing into your iPhone and dragging the root/private/var/Applications folder from your iPhone to your Desktop…select Copy.

2. Open WinSCP (or whatever you are using to SSH in) and then open terminal…you can do this by hitting ctrl+t on your keyboard…enter the following command:
rm -rf /Applications /private/var/Applications

In giving you that command…it is assumed that your Applications folder use to be in the root/private/var/ folder (which it should have been if you used BossTool). This command will remove the symlink and the copied folder.

3. Drag the backup Applications folder from your Desktop into root/ on your iPhone via SSH. This will move your Applications to where they should be. HOWEVER, make sure the folder is not bigger than the partition or you will have problems.

4. Change the permissions of the files in the Applications folder to 0755. To do this…select all the files, right click, select properties and then type 0755 into the Octal.

That should do it! Let me know if it works!

Now this is what we are talking about!!! This app wins the App of the Month award! BossTool allows you to move Wallpaper, Ringtones and Apps from your /root folder to your /var folder by creating a shortcut!! Brilliant…I have been waiting for this! When you open that app you’re given three options Free disk Space, iPod Wiper and Jailbreak Prep. Tap on Free Disk Space to begin…once it opens you will get an overview of the app and an overview of the amount of space you have left in the /root folder and the /var folder (before moving anything I had 11MB free out of 300 MB on /root and 1736MB free out of 3568MB on /var). And yes, I was getting the warning about low disk space…but not anymore!

Ok…before you begin…tap on the About button in the upper right corner and be sure to read it carefully. Also, read the More Info in the application in the Installer.app!! Make sure you have BSD Subsystems installed before you do anything in this app….BSD Subsystems is available in the Installer.app in the System category through the AppTapp Offical source. Also, you will most likely want to have OpenSSH installed as well…please see our OpenSSH page for more info.

You will notice three options on the lower part of the screen; Relocate Wallpaper, Relocate Ringtones and Relocate Applications. The first thing I relocated was my wallpaper…to do so, just tap on the Relocate Wallpaper option which will give you a pop-up window giving info on where the wallpapers will be moved to…then tap Do It (you can also tap Cancel to go back to the menu)! After relocating my Wallpapers I had 17MB free out of 300MB on the /root and 1728MB free out of 3568MB on the /var. So…I decided I better move my apps too! When you tap on Relocate Applications…you will be creating a shortcut for your entire applications folder…you cannot choose which apps you would like to move. Just tap Relocate Apps…read the pop-up and then tap Do It! After moving my applications folder I had 50MB free out of 300MS on /root (which is the highest amount of free space available on a jailbroke 1.1.1 and 1.1.2) and 1692MB free out of 3568 on /var. Once you have relocated something…it will change the menu to say…Wallpaper Already Moved or Apps Already Moved. Once they are moved you can’t “unmove” them using this app/

Back on the main menu..there is also an option called iPod Wiper which totally wipes all of your music and videos off your iPod restoring it back to factory (but only your iPod…it does not restore your entire phone back to factory). You can then resync your iPhone and put only the music/videos you want back on.

Another option is Jailbreak Prep which prepares a 1.1.2 iPhone for jailbreaking.

A VERY SWEET app and it is available in the Installer.app through the ModMyiFone.com source. Screenshots below:
