There have been a few updates to the WeatherIcon mod since the last time I wrote about it. The updates were mostly bug fixes but, the update to 2.1.14 caught my eye. The update says, “This release “should” fix issues that people were seeing with phones running on EDGE that had incoming call issues. I got reports of problems with calls being dropped, no audio, and other oddities. This release should handle that more gracefully.”

Ok, seriously, I have been wondering why my iPhone was being so crazy lately. People would call and I couldn’t answer or it would answer and there would be no sound or I would try to make a call and it would be dead air. It was really starting to drive Doug crazy and he was going to restore my iPhone today but, I am going to give this a try first. I will have to test it for a while and let you know how it goes. Let me know in the comments if you notice a change.

Change Logs:
2.1.14
    • This release “should” fix issues that people were seeing with phones running on EDGE that had incoming call issues. I got reports of problems with calls being dropped, no audio, and other oddities. This release should handle that more gracefully.

2.1.13
    • Fix for 2.x OS

2.1.11
    • Fix some issues with the weather info conflicting with the bluetooth icons in the statusbar.

2.1.10
    • The release is an attempt at fixing the crashed that some people have. I have not definitely isolated the crash issue, so this release may do nothing to help.

Once again, I had no problem with the update on an iPhone running 2.2. The mod also seems to be working a little better with the 3.0 firmware. The Status Bar part of the mod is looking much better and it now visible instead of being too high and getting cut off. I did notice that the Status Bar mod does not work correctly if you are adding the date to your Status Bar using SBettings. It did take a few resprings and disabling/enabling to get it to work correctly (Status Bar) but, that could have to do some of my mods and not the actual WeatherIcon app.

The update does make the app compatible with the 2.2 firmware again. When I installed the update on an iPhone running 2.2, it did not go into Safe Mode and both the Icon and Status Bar worked correctly. So, you should be safe to install it now.

The 0.4.0 update adds the ability to hide the WinterBoard icon so that you can exclusively use WinterBoard Settings instead of the WinterBoard application itself.

Not extremely huge updates but, useful if you use WinterBoard Settings. I still do not use WinterBoard Settings exclusively. I know a few of you said that you use it instead of the WinterBoard app. Has anyone else decided to use WinterBoard Settings exclusively?

Remember you can get WinterBoard Settings via the david.ashman.com source.

I was surprised when I opened Cydia this morning and saw a WinterBoard Settings application. I was like…Shut Up! I totally thought we were going to get some sweet new settings…maybe some interface settings and what not. Well, that is not exactly what this app is.

WinterBoard Settings, via the david.ashman.com source, will add an option for WinterBoard in your stock Settings application. When selected, you have the option to turn on/off SpringBoard Only (which will apply WinterBoard themes to only your SpringBoard) and Debug (I’m not exactly sure what this setting would do). You can also view all your WinterBoard themes from the Settings option.

Ultimately, you would no longer need to use the WinterBoard application itself, you could do everything through the WinterBoard Settings. When testings WinterBoard Settings, I found that the two applications (WinterBoard itself and WinterBoard Settings) override each other. For example, if you set a theme using the WinterBoard Settings and then you go in a choose a theme from WinterBoard itself…it will override the theme you chose using the WinterBoard Settings and vice versa.

I also found that the SpringBoard Only option seemed to work. It leaves anything that shows up on the SpringBoard (Wallpaper, Dock, StatusBar, Wifi icon…etc) activated but turns off the theme’s mods like calculator, dialer, sms…etc. It also leave the theme’s lock screen mods activated as well.

I haven’t decided yet if this is a app I’m going to use or if I’m going to stick with just using WinterBoard itself. Let me know in the comments what you think.

And, I’m not sure what the Horizontal Shift does. I don’t notice any changes when I adjust the number! Let me know in the comments if this option works for you and what it does!

Overall, a nice update. I like the new features and the new customization ability. I also like that WinterBoard is no longer needed in order to use the mod. However, I did notice that any time I enable or disable the mod itself or the Reflect All Icons feature…I have to respring my iPhone for the change to take place. Not sure if this is just me or if it is a bug with the mod. A few features I would like to see are a way to disable the dock icon reflections but leave the All Icons feature enabled and a reset button that would reset all the options back to stock….that way if you do a little tweaking, you can easily go back to the stock settings. But, other than that…very nice!

You can get the Reflective Dock mod via the david.ashman.com source.

Lockscreen Clock Hide is a mod that removes the time and date from your lockscreen leaving you with just a blank lockscreen. What is cool, is that it replaces the little lock icon that is normally on your status bar when your iPhone or iPod Touch is locked with the time! So, you don’t actually completely lose the time…it just gets moved to your status bar!

As soon as you install the app…it activated the mod (it is not activated/deactivated via WinterBoard). To get your date and time back, just uninstall the app. I had no issues installing or uninstalling this application. You can get Lockscreen Clock Hide via the david.ashman.com source.

Yesterday there was an update to Dismiss Away Items, a application that allows you to dismiss alerts pop-ups by tapping the Home Button. The update changed the app so that it only works for dismissing alert pop-ups on your lock screen (instead of on your lock screen, SpringBoard and while in an application). However, the developer also released an additional application titled Quick Dismiss. When installed, it allows you to dismiss alert pop-ups using the Home Button while on your SpringBoard and while in applications. So basically, the developer turned Dismiss Away Items into two applications.

However, the first release of Quick Dismiss did not work so, I patiently waited for an update which came out this afternoon and the application now works correctly. Make sure you have version 1.1.0 of Quick Dismiss.
//-->

Basically, if you want the option to dismiss alerts, using your Home Button, while on your lock screen you will want to install Dismiss Away Items. If you want the option to dismiss alerts, using your Home Button, while on your SpringBoard or while within applications you will want to install Quick Dimiss.

The developer does say that he will eventually turn the two application back into one application with the option to turn on/off one or the other. But, for now, they are seperate application that begin to work as soon as you install them and you will need to uninstall the app in Cydia to remove it…no WinterBoard activation/deactivation with these mods.
