I’m totally stoked about version 2.1.2 of iBirthday!!! The app finally works!!! I’m sooooo exited! I updated to 2.1.2 thinking that I would maybe see some visual changes (there are none) and not really expecting the app to work again. I went in and changed my birthday to today…then went into the settings in the app and change it to notify me on the day of the birthday and like two minutes later so I had time to respring my iPhone. So, after I set the settings I used Restart to respring my SpringBoard and I waited…thinking I wouldn’t see anything…well, I was taken aback when I got a little Happy Birthday pop-up!! Not only that but after I canceled the pop-up it even did the little message across the top of the SpringBoard!! So, this app is fully functional!! I’m totally excited…I love this app!! iBirthday is available through the ModMyApple.it source. Below are the screenshots.

Note: As mentioned in the past this app works with 1.1.2 and above.

There have been a few updates since the last time I have done a review of iBirthday. This has always been one of my favorite apps…but, a few updates ago (version 1.2.3a) made it compatible with only version 1.1.2 and above. Well, I finally got a chance it get it on our 1.1.4 iPhone and I really like some of the “new” features!! When you open the app…you will notice that it keeps the background you are using on your iPhone as the background for the app…that is pretty cool! There is also a new About button which will give you the change log for the app and some other basic info about it. The two new features that I think are really cool are Sounds and Birthday List. With the Sounds options…you can pick between 7 sounds that will be played when it alerts you of a Birthday. If you select Birthday List…you will see a full list of all the birthdays you have entered in your iPhone, when their birthday is and the age that person is/will be this year. Another sweet feature is that the birthday notification pop-up allows you to call or text message the contact…very very cool! For some reason…I really like this app…I don’t know if it is the fancy fount or the clean icons…just something about this app that I like!! iBirthday is available through the ModMyApple.it source. According to the developer version 2.0.2 of this app is compatible with 1.1.3, 1.1.4 and maybe 1.1.2 (ha, if you are on 1.1.2…let us know if it works for you!).

Note: For instruction on how to add a birthday to your contacts…check out the first post done for this app (version 1.2.1) by clicking on the iBirthday link in the above paragraph.

I just installed the update to iBirthday 1.2.3a and after I updated the app I went to my SpringBoard to check out the new features however, when I select the app it open and then immediately closed again. So, I did the first thing I always do when something like this happens…uninstalled the app, restarted my iPhone and then reinstalled the app. After doing this, the app still did not open…so, I SSHed in and changed the permissions to writable and it STILL did not work…I’m totally bummed because I loved this app! Let me know if you are having the same issues or if it is working for you!

iBirthDay is a really cool app that alerts you when someone in your contacts is having a Birthday. The app open to the main menu where you can; turn on/off that iBirthDay Service, set the time you would like the alert to happen, set when you would like to be alerted(anywhere from the day of the Birthday to 10 days before the Birthday) and turn on/off the SpringBoard text. If you turn the iBirthDay Service on, you will get a pop-up on your SpringBoard letting you know who’s Birthday is coming up, how many days until their Birthday and how old they are going to be. When you are alerted is based on what you set your time and day as in the main menu. If you chose to have it alert you at 10:00am three days before a Birthday…then, you will get the alert at 10:00am…three days before the Birthday!! Once you have read the pop-up alert, you can just tap your screen to make it disappear. If you decide to turn on the SpringBoard text setting…after you get the pop-up, it will also put a little line of text just below your status bar on your iPhone telling you who’s Birthday it is and how old they are going to be. The only issue I have found with the SpringBoard text is that it says, “Today’s birthdays:” even though the Birthday isn’t today, it is in three days. So, that could be a little confusing. If you have turned on the SpringBoard text and decide you don’t want to look at it all day…just go back into the app and change the SpringBoard text setting to off…you will have to restart your iPhone to get it to go away. Now, to actually get this app to work, you will need to add Birthdays to your Contacts. To add a Birthday to your a contact….go to your Phone app, select Contacts, select a contact, tap Edit is the upper right corner, scroll down and tap on Add Field, scroll down and tap Birthday, enter the date of the person’s Birthday and tap Save in the upper right corner. I like this app…I think it is fun!! iBirthDay is available in the Installer.app through the ModMyApple.it(Chiafa) source. See the screenshots below:

Thanks to the viewer Kampi for the heads-up about this app!!
