I was excited to see Kate was finally available for firmware 2.0 via the Installer. It is a public beta version of the application. I personally am a huge fan of Kate and really miss the features that I use it for. However, when I try to install the app, I get an error. The error says, “Failed script command on line 2: ChangeMode.” Then my iPhone crashed back to the SpringBoard. I was totally bummed…I was looking forward to checking it out. Let me know in the comments if you are getting the same error.

Update:: Below is a list of features that Kate 2.0b4 has. I do think that it is cool that if you previously registered the app, it will carry over to this version of Kate.

All Components:
    • First public beta for firmware 2.0. Can be installed from the repository http://i.ripdev.com/ using Installer 4.
    • All included components reworked to work under 2.0.x with the same functionality. We will expand on the featureset soon.
    • Existing subscriptions will work; you can also request a trial or check your subscription by visiting Settings > RiP Dev > RiP Dev Products preference pane.

EQ:
    • This component will not be supported under firmware 2.0 due to significant changes in the audio subsystem.

Uninstall:
    • This component is not yet supported (until Installer 4 is final).

NeverputtME is a game that has been out for a little while now via Installer…for firmware 1.1.4 and below. It is a putting game, created by Lazrhog, that is based on the Neverball engine. I actually tested this game when it first came out however, like Neverball, it is impossible to get screenshots of the application. Well, we finally got some screenshots! So, time for a review! When you open NeverputtME, you will get the info screen where you will get a little bit of information about the app. To get to the Main Menu of the app, select the Play option in the upper left corner.

You will then be brought to the main menu which has two options; Play and Help. Help will give you hints on how to play the game. If you select Play you are able to choose a course. As you drag your finger across the course options it will display a short description of the course, the difficulty level of the course and author of the course. I will say that this part of the menu is a little tricky to navigate…it will take a few tries before you get used to it. Once you have selected a course, you can then choose the number of players ranging from 1 to 4. This will bring you into the main play screen. You begin playing by tapping on the screen.

You will see that your Score and the Par for that hole at at the bottom of the screen. In the middle of the screen is the hole. To aim the ball, you can swipe left and right. The yellow/red line behind the ball represents how hard you will hit the ball….the longer the line, the harder the ball will be hit. You can adjust the power of the ball by swiping your finger up (less power) and down (more power) on the screen. Once you have the ball aligned and have the amount of power set for the ball, you tap the Press Me button in the upper right corner to actual hit the ball. After each stoke, you will need to tap the screen to hit the ball again. When you have finished a hole, you will get a screen displaying the scores. It will show the par for each hole and your actual score for each hole. The first hole was a par 2 and I got 7…the game said I was Lame! Ha

I will say that it does take a few holes to get used to the controls. But, once you are used to them…it is no problem at all. Doug really likes this game, I’m not big on golf. But, if you like golf or you like golf video games, you will definitely want to check this one out! You can get it via the BigBoss source.
It explains how to take a YouTube Video and make it into a video ringtone. How sweet is that! Great job DJContagious!

yes its true, there’s a way to get YouTube videos as a ringtone

Requirements:
iPhone (DUH!) FW 1.1.4
MxTube
MobileFinder
vWallpaper
Wi-Fi (not necessarily a requirement, but saves time)

Step 1. Open MxTube, find a video you would like as your ringtone, and download (I would recommend the ” High quality” option, it would look more cut up).

Step 2. Once the video is done downloading, quit MxTube and open Finder.

Step 3. Navigate to. /var/mobile/Media/MxTube and spot the video you downloaded (this might be a bit challenging if you have multiple videos, just look In the little pictures and see which one could be from your video.).

Step 4. Once you find you video, locate the clone of it (by this I mean the .mp4 file that matches the name of the .THM picture of the video you just downloaded.

Step 5. Press “File” and then “Move”.

Step 6. Now navigate to /var/mobile/Media/Skrew/vRingtones

Step 7. Once there, press “Paste” at the bottom left button panel.

Step 8. Once it pastes there, exit Finder and reboot your phone.

Step 9. Open vWallpaper, and select Video Ringtones, then Select Videos, and select the vid u just downloaded. Then reboot.

Done! Now ask someone to call you, and you will see a YouTube video as your ringer!

It seems for me, I didn’t need to move the files using finder. vWallpaper found them on it’s own! That makes it much easier. Let me know how it works for you.

MCallShow is an application that allows you to search for information based on a phone number. When you open the application, you will get a screen saying that you have a 15 day trial before you will need to purchase the app. However, when I went to the applications website to see how much it would cost to purchase the app it says $0.00. So, I’m not sure what the deal is with that! You can just select Cancel to be brought to the the main screen where you will see the options; Local Country (which will automatically be filled in for you), a search bar, City, Region, Others, Country and Contact. You are then able to enter a phone number into the Search bar and it will display the City, Region, Others, Country and Contact for the phone number.

However, this application does not work for me…well, maybe it does and I just don’t know it! When I enter a phone number and select search, it finds the City, Region and Country however it displays the answer in either Chinese or Japanese neither of which I can read! This is actually the second release of this application and I had the same problem with it when it was released the first time. Let me know in the comments if it works for you. It could be a handy application for finding out info about phone numbers you don’t recognize on your caller ID. You can get MCallShow via the iSpazio source.
In the Settings there is still a Calibrate option however, it has changed slightly. You can now select one of two icons that will adjust how much your iPhone will be tilted when you play the game. Once you have chosen one of the two icons, you can then calibrate your iPhone. Just tilt your iPhone until the yellow boxes, on both the side and bottom of the screen, are in the middle of the red line then select Calibrate Centre. It will say that it has saved your Calibration. You also have the ability to choose between three sensitivities; Low, Medium and High. I found that the Setting with the iPhone tipped all the way back and then the lowest sensitivity plays the way that I like it best! You can get Neverball through the BigBoss source.
The update to version 1.09b of IntelliScreen fixes a bug that made the app crash if it was the first time it was being installed. The new feature on version 1.09 is the ability to add a Location Label to weather locations. The only way to see utilize this new feature is if you delete your Weather locations and re-add them. Because there is no way to edit previously added locations. However, when you add a new location, you will notice a Location Label option. When you add a Location Label, it will change the title of the Weather to whatever you have in the Location Label:the city or zip code you entered. The bug fixes are listed below. You can get IntelliScreen via the IntelliBorn source.

3DZapman is basically a 3D version of PacMan. When you open the application, you will get a splash screen and then the info screen. The info screen will give you your device ID and a place to enter your unlock code if you decide to purchase the full app. The full version of the application is $6.99 USD. However, you can play a demo of the app by selecting the Demo option in the lower right corner. The demo version is restricted to one level and has a time limit.

Once you have select Demo, you will then get a screen with the options; Start Game, Options and Credits. In the Options you have the ability to turn on/off the background and music. You can also adjust the volume of the sound affects. To get back to the main menu, select Back. When you select Start Game, you will be brought to the main play screen.

Here you will see your current Score and High Score at the top of the screen. At the bottom of the screen you will see the number of lives you have left, the controls and a back arrow icon. The green back arrow option will end the game. To move your guy, just tap on one of the three arrow controls on the screen…based on which direction you would like to move. The object of the game is to capture all the teal balls without getting eaten by the monster guys. If you capture one of the four green balls, the game turns into almost a night mode affect. While in this affect, you cannot be eaten by the monsters. When you run out of lives or time (the demo version has a time limit) you will get a screen that says something like…Register Now to get 8 additional levels.

This game is not too bad. It took a little practice to get used to the controls and I think the little Pacman guy needs to move faster but, other than that, not too bad. Let me know in the comments if it is something you would spend $6.99USD on. You can get 3DZapman via the ModMyiFone source.
ZodTTD is also responsible for bringing us psx4iphone and snes4iphone. The application is not available yet, it is still in early development but below is a demo video and what the developer has to say about quake4iphone;

“In this video the controlpad screen in the bottom portion of the screen is not included. The initial release of quake4iphone will have similar controls to the Gameboy Advance emulator gpSPhone in portrait mode. Using the accelerometer is being considered for upcoming versions, if the demand is there.

I did include network play in this port, and allow for the command line interface to be used.

As firmware 1.2.0 is emerging, I must note I currently am in the process of organizing my code to update to it, including quake4iphone.
