I have to admit… I have recently become a slight craigslist addict and Craigsphone is my app of choice. Yesterday, the app received an update. The update is a vast improvement over the previous version. Where things used to look messy and thrown together they now look sleek and clean… even the icon has a new look!

There is a new Search option on the lower menu bar which I love… it makes searching much more convenient. I also like that you can quickly search within specific categories. Another cool new features is the ability to turn on the Display Images option. Once turned on, this will add a thumbnail of the image right in the list of results. (Tap on the little icon above the search box to get to the option to turn on/off Display Images) I did find that it does not always display images for all results, even the ones that contain images.

I personally think the app loads faster after the update which is a nice. You can find the new Craigslist Forums and Craiglist Blog in the Featured option on the lower menu bar.

Overall, there are a ton of new feature (see full list below) and the updated UI is a major improvement.

I will admit, I may have a slight addiction to recipe applications. I just love the ease of using my iPhone while cooking (though, I am occasionally concerned for it’s safety!). So, when I came across a relatively new application titled Mixing Bowl, I installed it on the spot! The Mixing Bowl application is based off the website MixingBowl.com (which I had not indulged in prior to installing the iPhone application). I found MixingBowl.com to be an upbeat, social cooking website that is largely member maintained.

In order to use the Mixing Bowl iPhone application, you will need to become a member of MixingBowl.com. Normally I’m not big on apps that require you to become a member in order to use them but, I make exceptions for cooking apps!

After becoming a member (a painless process), I found the app to have many of the same features the website offers. The main menu allows you to view Recipes, Groups, Friends and Blogs. Since I am mainly interested in the Recipes, I headed there. I found the recipes to broken into a few main categories (Course, Foods, Popular Topics, Holidays, Level of Difficulty and Special Diets) and quite a few subcategories.

After making my way to the Dessert category… yep, that’s right, the dessert category! I was greeted by a decent array of recipes. Because the website is largely member maintained I did find that quite a few of the recipes did not contain images. A slight disappointment, I’m a stickler for pictures! However, you are able to quickly see the ratings for each recipe which is helpful.

There are a few things I like about this application, it allow you to easily; save a recipe to your favorites, read the reviews for the recipe, add a review to the recipe, rate the recipe, view more recipes by that member, add a photo to the recipe… etc. At times I do feel like it is all a bit too “social” for me. Many times the comments are things like… “This sounds yummy” or “Can’t wait to try this” instead of helpful comments from people who have actually tried the recipe. Also, because the recipes can be uploaded by anyone who is a member, you will run into a few duds.

Overall, I found the recipes easy to navigate, the design to be user friendly and the amount of recipes to be plentiful (if not overwhelming at times!). If you are a stickler for cooking applications, Mixing Bowl is definitely worth checking out.

TasteTimer is a simple application that allows you to quickly view the amount of time for tea, coffee, and food preparation.

The app includes 19 categories of food ranging from tea to eggs to vegetables to poultry. Each category includes specific types of preparation. For example if you chose the Eggs category you would then see the option for Hard Cooked, Sunny Side Up, Poached, Frittata… etc. Once a specific type of preparation has been selected you are given details about the preparation including; the temperature, the quantity of food and the cook time. There is also the ability to set a timer as well as adjust the timer and choose from 22 timer sounds.

The app does allow you to edit the current preparation styles and add your own style of preparation into each category. Which is a nice feature. You can also favorite specific preparation styles which moves them to the top of the list allowing for quicker viewing in the future.

Overall, a very handy application that will make correctly preparing tea, coffee and food a snap. An app I will be keeping around.

Woot Buzz is a simple application that will notify you when your keywords come up for sale at Woot.com, kids.woot.com, sellout.woot.com, wine.woot.com and shirts.woot.com.

This app is very simple… enter keywords and you will be notified via a free text message when those items become available on one of the five woot sites.

“When you item is found Woot Buzz sends you a free text message to your phone. This text message is absolutely free and you will not be charged for it.

Follow the link at the bottom of the message to visit the website that has your item for sale and buy it at a discount.”

How to use Woot Buzz:
Go to the Search option on the lower menu bar, enter a keyboard (or words), select your carrier and hit Save. You will get a pop-up saying that you will be notified when that keyword is available on woot. It will take around 30 seconds for your keyword to show up in the Keywords section of the app. You can turn the app on/off and delete keywords in the Keywords option on the lower menu bar.

This application does not have a stellar design, it’s pretty simple, but it could definitely be a useful application especially coming into the Holiday season! Now, you don’t have to check all the woot sites everyday… you can get a text when the things you actually want go for sale! w00t!

Today Starbucks released their official application, myStarbucks however they also released Starbucks Card Mobile. At first I thought the app looked slightly uneventful but then I took a closer look.

Starbucks Card Mobile allows you to view the remaining balance on your Starbucks card, reload your Starbucks card, view your recent transaction and… get this… allows you to pay using your Starbucks card right from your iPhone or iPod touch.

The “pay from your device” features is still in the testing phases but is available in 16 locations throughout Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale and San Jose California and Seattle, Washington. Apparently your iPhone or iPod touch will display a barcode that you use just like your Starbucks Card to make purchases (see screenshots below).

Honestly, I’m not sure I want to be handing my iPhone back and forth at the drive through but… a very cool concept none the less.

Marriage Log, by the He Said She Said blog, is an application designed for married couples. It allows you to quickly and easily keep track of those important marriage moments and details.

The app has four main categories; The last time we…, Plans for “us” time are…, I need to remember to… and Details about me spouse are…

In each category, you can add things specific to your marriage… including that date in which they occurred.

The application is simple and easy to use. I love the Details section where I can add all Doug’s info. It is great to see an application that promotes spending time and energy on your marriage and that reminds us of the importance of enjoying each other! YAY for the Marriage Log!

There are a few things I would love to see in the app; the ability to rearrange the lists and the ability to write more (it gets cut off after the second line).

Yesterday, Chipotle’s official application hit the App Store – Chipotle Ordering. I don’t know about you guys but, I seriously love Chipotle! Like seriously. So as you can imagine, I was totally stoked about the new app. The app allows you to find the nearest Chipotle restaurant, view the menu, learn more about Chipotle (and their quest to serve fresh, natural, organic products. YAY!) and pre-order your meal.

The interface is lovely and self explanatory. It is extremely easy to create your order exactly how you would like it… you are able to choose the exact toppings, sides and drinks you would like with your order. After you have selected everything you would like, it gives you a nice breakdown of what it will cost. I also love that you can create Favorites for quick ordering.

In order to actually place the order, you do need to sign up for a Chipotle account which is done from right within the app. To create the account you will need; First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone, Password, choose a Challenge Questions and give the answer to the Challenge Question.

I don’t know about the Chipotles where you live but, where we go, the line is always hugely long. Now, I can order from my iPhone and go pick it up… no more waiting in line! I just love this app.

eBay has recently update their iPhone app to include push notifications for outbid events and watched items. There’s are a lot more great features ability to pay with PayPal, search for completed items and search in description. The completed items thing is sweet ’cause now you can go to garage sales and search for an item to see what’s it’s really worth by seeing what it sold for as a completed item, not just current live items.
