BytaFont – Change System Fonts on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

There have been jailbreak apps that change fonts before but for the 4.x firmware I am liking an app called BytaFont. It’s free and there are a lot of fonts available with more being added all the time. Some are a little crazy but some are sweet. You can even have different fonts in different areas of your device. Here’s a list of all the areas:

- Dialer/Calculator
- Keyboard
- Lockscreen Clock
- Notes
- System

Again, there are a ton of fonts but I’ll just show a few below to give you an idea. One thing that would be nice is if you could use different fonts for your home screen but keep stock fonts elsewhere. I’m guessing this is a Apple firmware limitation.

RoundCorners – Round the Corners of your iDevice’s Screen

RoundCorners is a mod that rounds the corners of your iDevice’s screen. It basically creates a mask for your device that gives everything rounded edges. Because it is a mask, it rounds the corners of whatever is displayed on the screen. This includes everything; SpringBoard pages, Stock Applications, App Store Applications, Webpages… etc. The mod actually has a few settings. The settings are located in the stock Settings application. The settings include; the ability to turn the mod on/off, Premode (which allows you to round the entire page… including the statusbar… or just the page), the ability to change the radius of the rounded corned (making it more or less rounded), the ability to turn the mod off in GameMode… etc.

I did not have any problems installing, activating or deactivating the mod. It worked just as it should. I do like that it is not a WinterBoard activated mod and instead has it’s own settings… that is nice. You can get RoundCorners via the BigBoss source.

Christmas Sliders

Here are a few simple little mods for Christmas time. They change your slide from the unlock arrow to a candy cane, stocking, bulb, or star and changes the words “Slide to Unlock” to “Merry Christmas”. The star & blub ones also have backgrounds. You can use a program like iFile or SSH in and change the text to make “Merry Christmas” say anything else if you’d like.

Analock HD – Customizable Lockscreen Mod

Analock HD is a simple, clean lock screen mod. The lock screen displays the current time, date, day of the week, temperature and weather conditions. And, like Sublime Lock HD, what I love most about this lock screen mod is how easy it is to customize… no coding involved!! I have actually been using this lock screen for a while now and I decided it was time to pass it along! Below are the step-by-step instructions on how to install, activate and customize the Analock HD lock screen mod.

Side Note: Like always, the instructions might look long but that is only because I explain every little step.

Instructions:
1. Install Analock HD from Cydia (it is in the BigBoss source).

2. Go into WinterBoard and activate AnalockHD.

3. Turn off any other lock screen mods… such as LockInfo.

4. Open Safari.

5. Type the following URL into Safari – file:///Library/Themes/AnalockHD.theme/config.html. This needs to be typed exactly. Or, if you are on your iOS device, just click on the link.

6. Set the URL as a bookmark. This is done by tapping the + icon at the bottom of Safari and selecting the “Add Bookmark” option.

7. In Safari, go to weather.yahoo.com and search for the weather you would like displayed on the lock screen. Example) St. Paul, MN

8. Once the specific weather page has loaded in Yahoo Weather, go into the URL and copy the number at the end of the URL. Example) http://weather.yahoo.com/united-states/minnesota/st.-paul-2487129/… you would copy the bold numbers in the example.

9. In Safari, open the bookmark for the theme settings that you created in step 6.

10. Choose your settings. This lock screen has a decent amount of settings including; the ability to choose a, clock type, color, temp unit, update times, clock text… etc.

11. Paste the number you copied from Yahoo Weather into the “Yahoo! Code” field.

12. Once you are finished customizing the lock screen, select “Save” at the bottom.

13. Your changes are now saved.

14. Respring your device.

15. The changes will now display on your lock screen!

Simple and easy! There are a few things I like about this mod and one feature I would love to see. What I like about it is that it is simple, clean and easy to customize. I also like that you can change the clock text to anything you would like it to say! Lastly, I like that you can choose whatever background you would like behind the mod. The one feature I would still like to see is that when you select the color in the settings, it would change the slider to that color as well. Right now, the slider stays red. I can’t help it… I have an addiction to uniformity! Overall, another sweet mod by Andy9l.

Gowalla 3.0 Integrates Facebook Places, Twitter, Foursquare & Tumblr (Crashing on Jailbroken iPhone)

Gowalla 3.0 now integrates Facebook Places, Twitter, Foursquare & Tumblr. It also has smarter check ins, predicting where you’re located based on your history. I think Foursquare already has that feature using a favorites feature. Another feature to help speed up checkins lets you start typing your message while you’re being located. This helps a lot in towns like mine where AT&T is VERY late to the game in 3G. Our EDGE is SLOW!!!! <--Rant

Now, I can't see how this app works yet because it's crashing as soon as I open it. This happened before with a previous release and I'm pretty sure it's because my iPhone is jailbroken. I've tried rebooting, reinstalling and doing as some have suggested, removing and re-adding my login info under the settings app. Still not working.

One last rant... I do not like the new icon. I'm just going to create my own winterboard theme for it and put the old one back. Yay for jailbreaking!

Over the last 6 months we’ve been working on something very, very special.

Without further ado, I’m stoked to announce Gowalla 3, the most significant update to the service we’ve ever released—both in terms of design and utility. But before I dive into the specifics of new features, let’s dive straight into the feature that is sure to be the most talked about.

Gowalla is now the easiest and best way to keep up with your friends across services with a combined activity tab that merges the whereabouts of your Gowalla, Facebook and Foursquare friends. Additionally, Gowalla now supports checking in on both Facebook Places and Foursquare in addition to sharing with both Twitter and Tumblr.

In fact, we’ve made checking in at your favorite places even easier with a new, faster check-in interface. We debated calling this “quick” or “express” check in, but it doesn’t really need a gimmicky name. We just made it better. Simply tap the Check In button that is universally present in the tab bar and based on your previous history and current location, we’ll auto-fill where we think you are. We get it right about 80 percent of the time. In the cases where our best guess was a little off, it’s super easy to select the correct location with a couple quick taps. Then you can quickly and easily share where you are with your friends on Gowalla, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Tumblr.

Of course, one of the things we hear often from our community is how much they love the Gowalla experience—which is certainly evidenced by our recent announcement with Disney Parks—but they want to keep up with their friends on Foursquare and Facebook Places as well. We decided that this was a problem we could solve.

Today you can now connect both your Facebook and Foursquare accounts in order to keep up with friends across multiple services. We’ve combined them all into a single, connected activity feed with all your friends, regardless of the service they checked in on.

In addition to adding your friends’ Facebook and Foursquare check-ins to your activity feed, we’ve also made it easier to preview the photos your friends are taking with Gowalla on the fly. It’s a lot more fun.

Of course, we’ve added several new and improved features to Gowalla 3 as well.

You’ll notice that our Highlights feature is now baked into Spots pages on the iPhone. You can view the Highlights that have been added to a spot in addition to adding your own. And in addition to our own Highlights, you can even read tips from Foursquare if they’re present at that location.

Next, we’ve added a fantastic new feature called Bookmarks. You can use a bookmark to flag a favorite spot — or perhaps just a spot you wish to visit in the future. You can quickly pull back up your bookmarked spots from the Spots tab. We even use bookmarks to help us determine where you are when you use the improved check in feature. We think you’ll find this very handy.

Finally, I’d like to tell you about my favorite feature. It’s called Notes.

With Gowalla 3 you can leave a Note for a specific friend (or for yourself) at any location. They’ll receive it the next time they check in there. Use it to leave a menu recommendation (the queso will make you feel alive!), to welcome someone to your city, as a reminder for yourself (don’t forget the bottle of wine) or even to leave a love note for someone special.

You can leave a Note at any spot from the mobile app and also from the web as well.

This is just the highlight reel of what you’ll find in Gowalla 3. A refreshing design, better spot creation and management tools, and improved friend management features are also neatly tucked into this update.

ChatPic – Add Contact’s Photo to SMS Messages

ChatPic is a mod that adds a photo next to SMS messages. The photo is pulled from the person’s contact info in your iPhone. It’s super simple… the mod is activated automatically when you install it in Cydia. There is no icon or settings. To deactivate the mod, you would need to uninstall it in Cydia (or use SBSettings Mobile Substrate Addon feature). Paired with the Sync feature in Facebook… a totally cool mod. I think it’s worth the $0.99 price tag. It does requires iOS 4.+. You can get ChatPic via the BigBoss source. Check out the screenshots below.

No Page Dots – Easily Remove Page Dots

No Page Dots is a very simple mod that completely removes the page dots at the bottom of the SpringBoard page. Once you install the app, it automatically removes the page dots… it does not add it into WinterBoard, add an icon to the SpringBoard or have any settings. The page dots stay removed even if you change your theme. To get the page dots back, just uninstall the app in Cydia. I didn’t have any issue when I was testing this mod. I was able to install and uninstall it without a problem! I think there are a few mods like this in Cydia but, this is the first one I have actually reviewed and it worked great. You can get No Page Dots via the BigBoss source.

Sublime Lock HD – Clean, Easily Customizable Lock Screen

Sublime Lock HD is a nicely designed lock screen mod. The mod displays the current time, date, temperature, weather conditions, twitter feed and has a decent amount of themes to choose from. What I love about this lock screen is that it is SUPER easy to customize… like seriously anyone can do it… there is no coding involved. Below are step-by-step instructions on how to install, activate and customize this lock screen.

The only issue I have noticed with this mod is that when the time is 10:_ _ the time doesn’t fit correctly. The developer has been pretty good about updating this app so hopefully we will see an update that fixes this issue.

SMS Retina Bubbles

This mod changes the colors of your text bubbles. There are three separate installations available for three different color combinations. They are Blue and Lavender, Pink and Lavender & Turquoise and Lavender. It would be great if there were a few more color combinations. They seem to only work on the iPhone 4 with it’s retina display which makes total sense since the name of the mod is SMS Retina Bubbles. We tried it on an iPhone 3GS and it didn’t work.

There are a few kewl features that could be used from this theme but it’s not set up completely to work with my iPhone 4 or the new OS. First, the icons are not made for the retina display. There are also a few icons that are either spelled in a different language or missing so they won’t show up correctly until I go in and rename them using iFile or just not show up at all. There are a lot of icons in this set, over 250! It also comes with some windows sounds effects, the blue spinning circle and other UI images like buttons & search boxes.

So, if for some reason you’re a Windows lover but have an iPhone, check out this theme and be ready to tweak it a bit to work on newer devices and firmware.
