The update to version 1.5.2 of MobileTwitter adds a new Update First option in the Settings. If you toggle on Update First…when you open the application it will open directly to the Update section. Which I think is a great new feature. When I open a twitter application on my iPhone it is usually because I would like to twitter something and then I go in and read all the tweets. I think I am actually going to start using MobileTwitter. I have not been happy with Twinkle’s performance lately. Though, they are still a few things I like to see changed in MobileTwitter…like when you reply to someone, the cursor says in front of the @suchandsuch instead of behind it so that you can just start typing. Other than the new Update First feature, I do not see any visual changes to the application. MobileTwitter is avilable through the NPike.net source.

I have been testing this app for a few days (before it was publicly released tonight) and there are many updates including some color changes to black, very nice. Also, the only problem that I had with the app has been fixed, the keyboard has been moved down! Now, I don’t hit other buttons when going for the space bar. Oh, and an updated icon! Below is the full list of changes and screenshots. Mobile Twitter is available through the Ste Packaging source.

The Update View has been redesigned and moved. It is no longer on the button bar at the bottom of the screen, but exists on the top right corner of every view. Clicking the “Update” button will slide the update view down over your current view. No more mis-clicking on buttons while going for the spacebar.

Settings view reorganized, with new options

Enable/Disable secure connections. This was enabled by default under the hood, but some users are experiencing connection problems, disabling secure connections may help.

MobileTwitter now automatically checks for new @replies and direct messages, displaying the new number on the button bar for Messages. The “Messages” view has been updated to show this count, and also include the “>” arrow for each menu option. Any new @replies will show up with a blue sphere beside them (similar to MobileMail.app and new messages)

New menu option when tapping tweets: View user’s tweets. This loads the users 20 most recent tweets.

Manual “Reload” button on each tab

Smaller font for tweets seems to help with fitting all the text in one box hopefully no more trailing “…”s on tweet texts.

Manually reloading a view will now make sure the view scrolls to the top

Public Timeline renamed to “Everyone” in accordance with Twitter.com changes

I am very excited about this app. I use twitter and have been using hahlo.com with great success. Now, to have it on my iPhone as an app! This app has all kinds of feature:

Your timeline (you + those you follow)
Direct messages
Public timeline
Updating your Twitter status
Reply directly to tweets from MobileTwitter
Open Tweets in MobileSafari (handy for clicking on links..)
Direct message authors of tweets

The only thing I don’t like about this app is that the keyboard is slid up just a bit and when I go to hit the spacebar I hit the different options at the bottom. My favorite feature is that I can open Tweets in Safari so I can click on links that are posted. This is available through the NPike.net source.
