The update to version 3.5 of Tetris! and PenguinPanic make the same changes to both applications. On the main intro screen, the Start and Donate button are now larger and have a nicer design. Also, once you have won (or lost) a game, you are now able to submit your score to an online High Scores database. I personally am a big fan of High Scores!! If you choose to submit your score it will open a web browser with the High Score list. The list automatically displays the top 25 scores but, you can continue to load 25 more. You can also sort the High Scores by Day, Week or Month. Both Tetris! and PenguinPanic are available through the BigBoss source. Below are the screenshots.

Penguin Panic 3.0

The update to Penguin Panic 3.0 does make a few changes to the application. The info tab, on the lower menu bar on the intro screen, has some new information. Instead of having Blue, Red, Yellow and Green snow flakes…there are now Blue, Purple and Black snowflakes. Blue is +500 points and makes your Penguin move faster, Purple is -500 points and makes your Penguin slower and the Black flakes will end the game. The Settings option has been implemented in the update. You are now able to choose between Easy, Medium and Hard skill levels and turn on/off the Deadly Flake option. However, the Deadly Fake option does not seem to work properly…whether I have it on or off, the deadly flakes still show up in the game.

I also found that if you are in the Credits option, you cannot select the Info option but, if you go to Settings or Main Menu, you can then select the Info option. The game play does seems smoother in this update then it did in the previous version so, that is good. Penguin Panic is available through the BigBoss source.

Penguin Panic 2.5

Penguin Panic 2.5 consists of some strong and needed updates. The icon was changed once more. The main character that you control, “the penguin”, has now added a hat and a scarf to it’s attire. Also a small bar was added at the bottom of the start menu that includes: “Main Menu”, “Credits”, “Info”, and “Settings”. “Settings” makes me excited for the next version of Penguin Panic. You can’t do anything in the settings right now but, in a future release you will be able to change the “Penguin Color”, “Background theme”, “Difficulty”, and some other things that are not mentioned. The last major update is the graphics in the actual game play. The background consists of a mountain view with some trees. It doesn’t look bland anymore. The only problem I had was once when I was playing, the penguin just disappeared! You can get Penguin Panic from the BigBoss source.

Penguin Panic 2.0

Penguin Panic 2.0 brings just small updates from the last version. The icon shows the full body of a penguin rather then just a head shot like in the previous version. The “done” button on the intro keyboard is larger and the “play again” button which appears once you lose is also larger. You also are no longer able to Submit your score when the game is over. The most important update that version 2.0 brings is that, you have to tilt your iPhone/iPod in order to start the game. I liked this feature because the game won’t start until you are ready. Penguin Panic! 1.6

Penguin Panic! is a tilt based game published by NewAttiPhone. When you first start the game you are greeted with a title screen asking you to name your penguin. This name will be used for the high-score table. There is also a tab for contest details, this is just a contest for fans of the application to make additional power-ups. Once you are done entering your name you tap “go”. You are thrown into the game right away. The game is in landscape mode. The point is to dodge the randomly falling icicles. Your score increases the longer you are alive. Power-ups also fall from the top of the screen. A blue snowflake gives you 500 points, red deducts 500 points, green increases the penguin’s speed, and yellow decreases the penguin’s speed. Once you are hit by an icicle you get a “game over” screen. It says your score and you have the option to “Submit Score!” or “Play Again!”. The game mechanic is simple. Tilt your Ipod/iPhone to move the penguin. Titling the device to the right makes the penguin slide to the right and tilting left slides the penguin to the left. This game has two huge problems that make it hard to like. The first is that it has way to many glitches. Sometime I can pass straight through an icicle while other times I get hit by one when I am not near one. The second reason is that the game is based way to much on luck. They should show a row of icicles at the top that shake a bit before they fall. If this was used, it would require some type of skill. The strategy used for how the game is set-up currently is hoping that you are in the right spot at the right time. The game requires Jiggy Runtime. You can get the game from newATTiPhone.com source.
