This app reminds me of the app called SpringDial where you could add an icon for any contact to your home screen to quickly dial them. That app is no longer in Cydia so here’s another option and it has even more features.

Once CallMe is installed, just open the app and pick a contact you want to reach straight from your home screen by tapping the plus sign in the top right. Once you select who you want to contact, pick the number you want to reach them at. Next pick if you want to call them or text them and pick what text you want to show under the icon. Close the app and your iPhone will respring. You’re all set!

The features of this app are great. You’ll want to make sure the picture you have for your contact really fills the screen when you add the image through your contacts app. This makes the icon look best. I also love features like a little SMS icon added to the icon to show the icon links to texting instead of calling. There’s also many options for naming the icon. The more customization, the better in my opinion. The app does respring in a weird way once closed. It seems it takes longer than usual. Overall it’s a very nice app for being free and just being upgraded for 4.1. Once set up, it works great!

TIP: I use Facebook mobile in Safari to save pictures of my friends and I use these to add the photo to my contact for them.

I’ve had a few people who only want to jailbreak their iPhone just so they could use FaceTime anywhere. Right now it only works on WiFi but with 3G Unrestrictor it will run on 3G and even EDGE. Every once in a while I would have problems keeping the call connected. It seemed, after about a minute, that the call would freeze and then disconnect randomly. It also seemed like it was happening with anyone and anywhere.

Well, I think I figured it out! Both of my grandparents have iPhone 4s and they live in 3G and have no WiFi so both are jailbroken and using 3G Unrestrictor while I also am jailbroken using 3G Unrestrictor. The difference for me was I was on WiFi during the calls. When I was talking with my grandpa tonight I decided I gotta figure this out! After about 5 calls, all 5 dropped around the 1 minute mark. Then I tried something crazy (sarcasm). Since I was on WiFi I thought I would try turning off 3G Unrestrictor. If you use SBSettings, you can just toggle it off before the call. Tada! I called both my grandma and grandpa again with FaceTime and had no drops!

So, the solution again. When jailbroken and have 3G Unrestrictor installed, toggle it off when making the call over WiFi. If you are still having troubles or have another fix, please let us know in the comments.

3G Unrestrictor has been updated to work with iPhone 4 and firmware 4.x. You know what this means! FaceTime calls anywhere! Now we’ve tested this out, and really it works better on 3G than it does on EDGE but it does work. Once installed you can just open the app and select apps you’d like to fake out. This makes them think your phone is on Wifi instead of 3G or EDGE. Other apps that this can help with instead of FaceTime are the App Store, which won’t let you download apps over 20MB. This goes for videos in iTunes too. Although Skype recently announced the use of Skype over 3G, you can avoid additional costs if they ever do decide to charge for it. Another place this will help is when videos download over 3G they are compressed more which makes them more blurry. With 3G Unrestrictor, YouTube thinks it’s on Wifi and will download the full resolution version.

Description

3G Unrestrictor allows you to go around the iPhone’s limitations and restrictions of not being able to use some applications like FaceTime, Skype or SlingPlayer while on a mobile internet connection like 3G or EDGE as well as many other things. It allows those things by tricking applications into believing they are on WiFi, even though they are on 3G or EDGE.

What you can do with it

It allows you for example while on 3G/EDGE/GRPS:

    * Make and receive FaceTime calls while on the go on 3G!
* Watch high quality YouTube videos, just like on WiFi
* Download apps bigger than 20MB from the App Store
* Download music, TV shows and podcasts bigger than 20MB from the iTunes Store
* Make free calls using VoIP software like Skype without additional fees
* Watch TV with SlingPlayer, HavaPlayer, EyeTV, Sky Mobile TV or other TV apps
* And much, much more since 3G Unrestrictor works with almost all apps (Check out the verified apps section to see with which apps 3G Unrestrictor DEFINITELY works!

Features

    * Works with almost all applications (check the verified apps list to see which apps DEFINITELY work)
* SBSettings toggle: Quickly enable and disable whether apps should be unrestricted
* Can detect when application might be trying to check whether they are on 3G and ask whether you want to unrestrict them(disabled by default)
* Easy to use interface where you select apps that should be unrestricted

Devices and Firmware Compatibility

The following devices are supported:
iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and the iPad (3G model).

You need firmware 3.0 or higher to be able to install 3G Unrestrictor. It is fully compatible with iOS 4!

Apps verified to work

3G Unrestrictor is able to unrestrict almost all apps. This list only lists apps which the developer personally verified to be working. If the app you want to use with 3G Unrestrictor is not in this list, the chances are still EXTREMELY high, that it will still work.

Below are instruction on how to manually change the dialer on your iPhone. The “dialer” is the keypad used to dial a phone number when in your Phone.

If you are on firmware 2.x – When you jailbreak your iPhone/iPod Touch, the Cydia application will be added to your SpringBoard with the rest of your applications. You will want to go into Cydia and search for the OpenSSH application. If it is not already installed, you will need to install it.

If you are on firmware 1.1.4 or below – you will need to use the installer.app and install both BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH on your iPhone (in that order).

Below are the rest of the instructions which are the same for all current firmware:
If you are on a PC…you will then need to install WinSCP on your computer. Macs come with OpenSSH but if you’d like some alternatives check here. To connect to WinSCP you will need to go into your Settings application on your iPhone and then into the Wi-fi option, click on the little arrow next to the Wi-Fi you are connected to and get the ip address. Now open WinSCP on your computer….the Host Name is your ip address (with the periods) the user name is root and the password is alpine. Don’t worry about the Private key file, you don’t need to put anything there. Hit login.

Once WinSCP opens, the dialer goes into /Applications/MobilePhone.app. Once you are in that folder you will see all of the stock files for your MobilePhone application this is where you are going to drag your new files to.

Create a folder somewhere on your computer and name it the title of the dialer you would like to add (ex…RetroPhoneDialer). In this folder you will want to put all of the files from the dialer you have downloaded. Once you have put all the files into your “RetroPhoneDialer” folder…open the folder so you can see all of the files.

Warning: What you are about to do will overwrite your stock dialer…make sure you make a backup of the MobilePhone.app folder that is one your iPhone before you begin. You can do this by clicking and dragging the MobilePhone.app folder out of WinSCP to your desktop and selecting Copy.

Once you have your dialer folder open (the one on your computer…”RetroPhoneDialer”), you will want to select all of the files inside it and drag them into the MobilePhone.app folder in WinSCP and hit Copy. You will then want to select Yes to all. Note: your iPhone has to be on for the file to transfer! Once it is done transferring…restart your iPhone and go into Phone and check your keypad…TaDa!!…you will see your new dialer!!

If you are downloading a dialer that is in a zip file…you will have to drag the folder out of the zip file to your computer. This unzips the file so that you can add it’s files to the MobilePhone.app folder through WinSCP. If the dialer you are downloading is a .rar file you can use WinRAR to open it (you have to download WinRAR it to your computer). You will then need to drag the folder out of the zip file to your computer to unzip it.

Note: Some dialers are made for a specific firmware so be sure to read all the file info before downloading and adding the dialer.
