Opera has released a version of it’s alternate web browser for the iPad. It was originally a big drama to get another browser on Apple’s iOS next to Safari but Apple eventually allowed it. Opera has been available on the iPhone for a while but now works on the iPad too. The app is pretty good over all and has some great features. Opera loads webpages on their servers and then compresses the data to load faster on your device. It’s great when you have a slow connection or you want to save bandwidth on your iPhone or iPad data plan. It also has a password storing system and multiple tab support.

I do have a few problems though. Too often it loads the mobile version of the website and there’s no way to get out of it. Facebook is a perfect example. That is VERY frustrating. It would be nice if you could switch back and forth between mobile and full web browsing. There is a switch in the settings but this doesn’t do what’s expected.

Today, the Google Voice application received an update. The update actually includes quite a few new features and bug fixes however, one of the cool new features is it has integrated support for both the iPad and the iPod touch.

Since we launched Google Voice for iPhone a few weeks ago, we’ve been hard at work to add a few improvements that didn’t make it into the first release.

At the top of the list was adding support for iPod Touch and iPad. Starting today, you can download a new version of Google Voice that lets you use all the features of the app on these devices, such as sending and receiving free text messages – except, of course, make cellular calls.

While you can’t use your iPod or iPad as a phone, you can use it to initiate Google Voice calls with your phones. We call this feature Click2Call. Simply click any ‘Call’ button in the Google Voice app on your iPod or iPad and then select which of your phones you want to ring. Google Voice will call your phone and then connect your call.

What’s New In This Version:
* Support for iPod Touch
* iPod Touch and iPhone can now make calls using Click2Call
* Do Not Disturb setting
* Text forwarding is automatically disabled when registering for Push notifications
* Added Text forwarding setting to the app
* Easier to make calls from the phone Address Book
* Removed annoying OK dialog every time you send an SMS
* Fixed crashes caused by text messages that begin with a space character
* Fixed bug that caused the entire Inbox to load
* Fixed bug that caused Contact pictures to get mixed up
* Improved access to Contact groups
* Improved speed of Contact search

Press Release

Opera today announced its popular mobile browser, Opera Mini has been approved for iPhone and iPod touch on the App Store. Opera Mini will be available as a free download within 24 hours, depending on market.

Opera Mini, with more than 50 million users worldwide, enables fast mobile Web browsing by compressing data by up to 90 percent before sending content to the device, resulting in significantly improved page loading. Users of the app will notice an uptake in speed, especially on slower networks such as the 2G Edge network. Surfing the Web with the Opera Mini App on iPhone and iPod touch will also help users save money because of its data compression capabilities. This will hold especially true while the user is incurring roaming charges.

“We are delighted to offer iPhone and iPod touch users a great browsing experience with the Opera Mini App,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “This app is another step toward Opera’s goal of bringing the Web to more people in more places.”

I had been looking for a long time, when I found this app, for a task list app I could use for repeating tasks. This way I don’t have to write my list over again or uncheck every task. Once you check off everything, you tap the refresh button in the bottom left and it resets the list. You can also make more than one list. You can drag around lists to reorder them and individual items within the lists. This is a big feature for me too because if a task suddenly becomes high priority I can drag it to the top.

The icon for the app supports badges and the number represents how many tasks are left in the currently opened list as default. You can make it show only lists you favorite or all lists or none.

Overall, I like this app because of it’s simplicity. It just works. This applications is on my first page of my iPhone.

As my full time job I’m a Technology Manager for a church. When I saw this app I just had to write about it. I’ve been waiting to ask for a demo copy so I can do a review but I noticed that the app is on sale for $0.99 down from $5.99. The sale only goes until December 31st, 2009.

The app is a database of worship songs categorized by theme, key and tempo. The need for this app comes from the developer’s own experience. They were not iPhone app developers but needed an app that would suggest songs based on the message that was being preached. Sometimes at the end of a message, it’s good to be flexible to what the speaker is highlighting in their message. After networking with others, they released the app in the beginning of December.

Since I don’t have a copy yet, I don’t know how well it functions but I can tell you some features and show you screenshots. The is a 3 part wheel that lets you select from the themes, keys and tempo. Then, once filtered, you can sort through the remaining songs alphabetically. You can even search easily for videos on YouTube or songs on iTunes and lyrics and chords on Google. Next, you can see the entire database of around 600 songs but tapping the “All Songs” tab. Saving your favorites is easy too and can be accessed from the “My Binder” tab. Finally you can share your choices from the “Share” tab. I haven’t seen any screenshots and can’t find any info on how that works but again, as soon as I get the app I’ll post an update.

This is helpful for those times when you are out running errands… instead of wondering what you needed to accomplish while at a specific store, you can click on the Place in the Tasker application and it will display a list of all the tasks for that store. Very cool.

The actual usability of the application is very nice. Tasks are simple and easy to set-up. You just enter a task title, select a Start/Due date and select the place where the task takes place.

There are quite a few options that make entering a task quick including; Today, Tomorrow and Next Week buttons which allow for a one tap date entry, a Next button which allows you to quickly enter the next task without having to go back to the main menu and the ability to set a task to a previously used location.

Once tasks have been entered, they can be viewed by Date or Place. The Date option allows you to see today’s tasks and upcoming task. The Place option allows you to select a location and view all the tasks for that location.

Once tasks have been marked off, they are added to the Completed list which can then be archived.

The app does have a decent amount of Settings. In the Settings you are given the ability to connect the app to your Twitter account, view your archived tasks, reset the archived tasks, select the map type (Map, Satellite, Hybrid), enable/disable the sounds, enable/disable the badge icon and learn more about the app.

This is a no frills type of application, you enter tasks and mark them off. Just the way I like it… keeps things simple.

Tasker is clean, easy-to-use and the location based tasks feature won me over.

App Store Description:

Tasker is a simple, yet powerful task manager for the iPhone and iPod touch. Tasker lets you organize your tasks using the two core elements of any task: When and Where.

✔ Dates

Tasker’s Dates view lets you see all your tasks arranged according to their date in a clean intuitive list. View todos that you need to do today in the “today” section and see all the tasks that are scheduled for the future in the “upcoming” section. You can easily set lots of tasks to start today by going into “Edit” mode in the “All Tasks” list. Just tap on each task you want to start today and its date will be set.

✔ Places

Tasker’s Places view lets you see your tasks as pins on a map so you can easily figure out which errands are near you and where you need to go today. You can navigate through all your tasks on the map using the “previous” and “next” buttons and you can create multiple tasks in one place. Do you have 10 groceries you need to get at the grocery store? Easily see them by tapping on the grocery store’s pin and check them off as you find them in the store.

✔ Twitter

Tasker lets you twitter any tasks you would like to share with your followers. Simply tap the twitter icon in a task and its text will be posted to your twitter account when you check it off. Easily keep your family or friends informed of what you’re getting done today.

✔ Super-fast Task Entry

If you’re anything like us, when you think of one thing to do you can think of ten. Tasker lets you quickly dump all those things swimming around in your head so you can focus on what’s important. Create many tasks very quickly by tapping the ‘next’ button after each. You’ll immediately be taken to another new-task screen.

✔ Sounds and Animations

As you check off a task the list animates and plays a sound to celebrate your accomplishment. The sound effects can be easily turned off in the settings menu if you value peace and quiet.

You are going to love this application! It allows you to create a custom list of apps and get push notifications of price changes. So, if you have an app you’ve always wanted but would only pay $0.99 for it, just search for the app, add it to the list, and set the price. If the prices ever changes to your price, the app will send you an push notification. This also works for when apps become free. AWESOME!

Now that’s not all. This app lets you browse apps via category and sort them by recent price changes (bargin), popularity or free. For example, I went into the photography category and found all the sweet apps and added them to my list for when they become free. Now whenever they become free I’ll get a push notification. Other sweet features included app screenshots, descriptions, & a direct link to App Store.

Having a hard time deciding who’s turn it is to make the coffee run or who’s turn it is to pick up the tab or even who’s turn it is to take out the garbage? Volunteer-O-Matic is the app for you. A simple, yet handy, application that allows you to randomly choose from a list of names (or numbers).

So lets say you need to decide who’s turn it is to make the coffee run at work. Just create a “Coffee Run” list and add the names of the people in the office. Then, give it a “spin” and it will randomly choose a name from the list.

One cool feature of the app is the ability to remove a name from the next spin. That way if Mike isn’t at work that day, you can temporarily remove his name from the list. You can remove as many people as needed from the next spin then, just reset the list to bring the names back.

As simple as this application is, it is very well designed and has a great user interface. It is worth the $0.99 to prevent the five minutes wasted while everyone tries to decide who’s turn it is to get coffee!
