Now that the iPhone 3GS is jailbreakable, ZodTTD has released version 1.0.0 of psx4iphone. <strike>I don’t see it in Cydia yet, but I’m sure it will show up soon.</strike> We will let you know when we see it. Make sure you have the ZodTTD source installed. Below is what ZodTTD has to say about the release (you will want to read it).

Note: This app will not show up as a new/updated app. However, if you search for it in Cydia, it will be there. Instructions are included in the package description. For more info, read below.

“With the release of the purplera1n jailbreak for the iPhone 3gs, the time has come to release an updated psx4iphone on my public Cydia repo.

I have made this build of the Sony Playstation 1 emulator, psx4iphone, to support all Apple devices running firmware 3.0 and above. Though keep in mind it will run about 300% faster on the iPhone 3gs, allowing for many games to be played. There are still some things to be worked out in the performance department, namely sound emulation slowing things down. If you can live without sound output, you have a mighty fast emulator.

This package is what I termed a “Donate & Download” Cydia package. Donations are very much appreciated, though are optional. By choosing the free option in the donation amount dropdown, you can receive it for free.

So what’s new in psx4iphone v1.0.0? The user interface is now up-to-date with the likes of the Gameboy Advance emulator, gpSPhone. I have implemented save states in addition to memory card saves. Portrait and landscape modes work. Tons of bug fixes have been made to the emulator itself, and I have been working hard on improving compatibility.

Instructions for installing psx4iphone can be found in the Cydia package info. Basically you place a PSX BIOS file and games that you must provide inside /var/mobile/Media/ROMs/PSX/. The BIOS file must be in all lowercase and be named scph1001.bin. For uploading the files on to your iPhone / iPod Touch / iPhone 3gs, I recommend using DiskAid. It sends files over USB allowing for fast transfers. It is also useful as I was not able to get SFTP working on the iPhone 3gs with the purplera1n jailbreak. Reportedly SCP works.

I would really love to see some nice videos of psx4iphone running on the 3gs! If you make one, let me know and link it here.

Hope you enjoy! Thanks,

ZodTTD”

Well, ZodTTD is at it again. He has got psx4iphone, a PlayStation emulator, running on an iPhone 3GS and says that it is pretty sweet.

“I now have psx4iphone running very speedy on the 3GS. It’s at the point where Final Fantasy 7 is fullspeed at very least without sound. The build is rough around the edges, as you can’t switch games without restarting the emulator, and only memory card saves are currently working, no save states just yet. Both these issues are being worked on.”

I noticed that quite a few apps in the installer, that used to be in the Conceited Software source, were now showing up as in the BigBoss source. So, after some research, I found out that Conceited Software has moved all of their apps to the BigBoss repo. In doing so, BigBoss has updated quite a few of them with some bug fixes, compatibility updates and making them function smoother. The apps listed below had either bug fixes or compatibility updates. I will do a reviews on the apps that had updates to the actual functionality.

Updates via BigBoss:

iFob got an update today. This update is mainly a user interface update. It adds some nice iPhone like status bar buttons to the bottom of the app’s U/I. This is also its debut in Cydia. Watch a video on how to use iFob HERE.

iRadio got an update today. The update fixes the 1.1.3 / 1.1.4 compatibility issues by setting the appropriate permissions to the app’s directory. This obsoletes my iRadio 1.1.3 fix which has been removed in place of this update. This is also iRadio’s debut into Cydia.

iMobileChat gets a long awaited update to v2.23. This version fully supports 1.1.3 and 1.1.4, adds landscape mode, and some other important things. It’s been out a while on the twenty08 source, but this brings it to the masses in community sources. This is also the debut for mobile chat in Cydia.

Nikotalkie gets an update to v1.45. The new version updates the server connect issues. This should enable Nikotalkie fans to be able to use the service again! The app also makes its debut into Cydia repository.

Twitxr was just moved to the BigBoss source…no changes.

VNsea gets an update to v0.82. This adds support for Spanish language. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same. This is also the debut for VNsea in Cydia repository.

Both gPSphone (Gameboy Advance emulator) and psx4all (Playstation emulator) are now updated and brought up to the current versions from Zoddtd’s site. The community source is now inline with the public Zoddtd source eliminating the need to carry around that extra source.

The Playstation emulator for the iPhone has finally been released. As of now it still is very slow for the games I’ve tested. I will try to give you step-by-step instructions on how to install and run this app, upload ROMs and bios and how to rip your own games right from your Playstation discs.

1. First install the app from Installer app.
2. Next you will need some ROMs. You can download some at http://www.emuparadise.org/roms/psx/ This game can play ROMs with the following file extensions: .ISO, .IMG, .BIN, .Z, .ZNX
3. Now you need to use SSH to upload the ROMs to the var/root/Media/ROMs/PSX folder. You will have to create the ROMs folder if you haven’t already and also the PSX folder. You can do this with the SSH program. Make sure you use exact capitalization.
4. Now you need to download the bios. Just google search for the flie scph1001.bin. Just upload it to the /Applications folder and set it’s permissions to 0755.
5. Now you just run the app and pick a game to play.

All games I’ve tried run VERY slow and are unplayable. I also was able to play “Driver” without the bios. I did get an error asking for the bios so I uploaded it and saw no change in performance. I also didn’t set the permissions to 0755 right away and saw no difference. I will try some more games and let you know how it goes. Here is some info on how to make .iso files from your original Playstaion CDs:

1. Download the free version of Alcohol (52%) from: http://mirror1.free-downloads.net/3/Alcohol52_FE_1.9.6.5429.exe.
2. Put your original Playstation CD into your CD/DVD drive of your computer.
3. Open Alcohol 52% and click “Image Making Wizard” on the left.
4. Check the box that says “Read Sub-Channel Data from current disc”.
5. From the Datatype drop-down list, select “Play Station”.
6. In the Image Name box, enter the name of the game. This will be the name of your .iso file.
7. From the drop-down list on the right, choose “CloneCD Image File”.
8. Finally, choose a place to save the .iso file in the folder selector, and click start.

These ROMs can be very large so here is some instructions on how to upload files using USB instead of SSH & Wifi. This is a guide for PC users. This is possible for Mac users as well, but requires Erica’s Macintosh tools.

1. Download and install Total Commander from: http://www.ghisler.com/download.htm
2. Download a plug-in for Total Commander called t-pot: http://code.google.com/p/t-pot/
3. Install Total Commander.
4. Run Total Commander and go to “Configuration/Options” in the file menu. Select “Plugins” and then click the “WFX” menu button. “ADD” the t-pot’s .wfx file. You will need to unzip the original file t-pot file we downloaded. You will need to restart Total Commander for the plug-in to work.
5. Connect the iPhone via USB.
6. At the top of the two window panes is a drop down menu usually labeled [-c-]. Select Network Neighborhood [--] from it. Choose t-pot from the window pane. Now you can see all your files on the iPhone and you are connected. Just drag and drop!

If you need more help with psx4all there is a FAQs at http://zodttd.com/wp/?page_id=2.
