Ringtones 2.87

Today, version 2.87 of Ringtones showed up in my Installer in Recent Packages. However, version 2.87 of Ringtones has already been released (a month ago!). I did notice that when I installed the “update” it changed the application icon. There are no other visual changes to the application so, I’m not really sure what the deal is…maybe just an icon update. You can get Ringtones via the Skrew source.

I have been messing with the update to Ringtones for a while now and do not see any drastic visual changes. I know the developer is having some issues with SkrewCommon (which is now needed for both the vWallpapers and Ringtones apps). So, it might be an update trying to fix that issue. Let me know in the comments if you see any visual changes that I missed! Ringtones is available through the Skrew source.

Version 2.84 of Ringtones adds a nice little pop-up after you have created a ringtone using the Direct Ringtones feature. Instead of being left wondering if the ringtone you created worked…you now get a pop-up letting you know the Ringtone was created. However, I seriously tried everything I could to make this version of Ringtones work after I updated it to no avail!! Finally, I uninstalled it, restarted my iPhone (not just resprung the SpringBoard), reinstalled it and restarted my iPhone again. Then, it finally worked. I had to go through this same process with the last version as well. I was also hoping to see a fix for the issue with the Carrier Logo from the previous version. However, it still changes your carrier logo to say that Ringtones has been Enabled making the Carrier Logo to long and adding the …. to it (thus changing it from Brooke to Broo…).

NOTE: I also figured out something else tonight. Doug had noticed that my ringtone (created with the Direct Ringtone feature) only played for a few seconds and then just did nothing…it continued to ring but, with no sound. Usually, I would have answered it in time and would not have noticed this issue. So, this is what I figured out…when you are in Direct Ringtones…you have to let the song play for as long as you would like your ringtone to be before you select Set as Default Ringtone. I had assumed that it would just automatically create a 30 second ringtone starting at the beginning of the song when you selected Set as Default Ringtone. However, that was not a correct assumption, you have to let it play for as long as you want the Ringtone to be then tap Set as Default Ringtone. After I did that…it worked great! YES!!! This finally works!! I updated to version 2.83 of Ringtones and was disappointed because it still didn’t work. So, I decided to try uninstalling it, restarting my iPhone, reinstalling it and restarting my iPhone after I reinstalled it and it worked! Now, I am able to use the Direct Ringtones feature. I went in and Enabled Ringtones, selected Kelly Clarkson from my music library and then selected the song Because of you. I then got a pop-up with two options; Set as default ringtone and Cancel. When I selected Set as default ringtone it just went back it the song list. I was like…huh, I wonder if that worked. So, I hit my Home Button and then something I most definitely did not expect happened.

My Carrier Logo, where it says Brooke, scrolled Brooke – Ringtones Enabled. Which was cool because then I knew that it was enabled but, now it makes my carrier logo all messed up. Now it says Broo…. This is because it is too long to fit so it adds the …. So, I am totally stoked that the Direct Ringtones feature works but, I think I would rather have some other sort of notification that the feature is enabled. As for the ringtone itself…the Direct Ringtones feature just starts the ringtone from the beginning of the song which is what I expected it to do. I did notice the the Home Screen says the correct version number now as well! Though the Disk Space Info is still a little messed up if you go into it twice. Other than that…I think it is pretty cool to be able to quickly set a ringtone. Ringtones is available through the Skrew source.

Note: I also tried the Direct Ringtone feature with a David Crowder song from my music library and it worked too!

Ringtones has some new features since the last time I did a review of it! When you first open the app…the lower portions of the screen is a little messed up. It is weird…one version it looks fine and the next it is messed up. When you select Start Converting, there are now two options; Direct ringtones or Edit and convert ringtones. Direct ringtones allows you to select a song from library and it will automatically make it into your ringtone. You do not have to do any converting or editing! This would be really sweet if I could get it to work!! But, I tried and tried and I couldn’t get it to work. In the Direct Ringtones feature you also have the option to turn on/off Ringtones and Stars Effect.

You do still have the option to edit and convert ringtones manually. I did notice that when you go into Edit and Convert Ringtones and it shows your disk space available…if you go back home and then go back into Edit and Convert Ringtones…it doubles the information instead of overwriting it (see screenshots below). I also noticed that the developer forgot to update the version number on the apps Main Menu…but, that happens sometime! Other than that, it seems to function the same as in the previous version. Version 2.74 of Ringtones brings some long awaited changes! The main menu of the app hasn’t changed however, once you get into the Converting menu…you will notice quite a few new features and changes. The first new feature that I noticed was the ability to restore the SMS stock ringtones!! Just tap on Restore SMS Ringtones and you will get a pop-up saying that all your SMS Ringtones have been restored. The interface for converting songs has also changed. It starts by allowing you to choose where you want your Ringtone to start (use the scroll wheel to make small adjustments). Once you have decided where you would like the ringtone to start just tap Next…now, you can select where you would like to ringtone to end. After you have that set…tap Next and you are able to select the fades. Once everything is just the way you want it, tap Build Preview. I do find it a little difficult getting used to the new interface…but, after I played around with it a little I got the hang of it. Ringtones is available through the Skrew source.

I was expecting version 2.73 of Ringtones to fix the SMS error however, it did not. There is one new visual change though…the app now shows that is has checked the Binary, Encoder and Ringtones path and then displays how much Disk Space you have free. A very nice touch I think. It does not automatically bring you to the Ringtones page…you have to tap Ok, Continue at the bottom. Like the previous version, this app still does fine with creating Ringtones but it is a no go for creating SMS tones. The settings get all stuck and the iPhone usually ends up crashing! Ringtones is available through the Skrew source. Below are two screenshots! Oh also, the error at the bottom of main screen has been fixed as well!

I really like this app and when I saw the new features that version 2.71 of Ringtones brought with it…I was like, this app just went from sweet to STINKIN SWEET!! Some of the new features include; setting SMS tones, using the microphone to record your own ringtones and SMS tones, fading in and out the ringtones/SMS tones you have created, converting the tones you create which then gives you a preview of what it will sounds like so you can choose to keep it or redo it and a section that lists all the tones you have created so that you can easily delete them. Everything that has to do with creating ringtones works great, even the new features (fading in/out, the converted preview, creating your own ringtone through the mic….) but anything to do with the SMS tones does not work, it usually ended up crashing all the iPhones I tried it on. I was sad! So, if you want to make ringtones…this app still works for that but hopefully we see an update soon that fixes the SMS bugs! Ringtones is available through the Skrew source. Note: You will also see a version 2.70 of Ringtones in the Installer…that one will not install…you want version 2.71.

RIngtone is an app that allows you to create ringtones from music on your iPhone. When you open the app you will get an intro screen. From here you will get the main menu with four options; Start Converting, Visit Application Page, Visit Jamendo Page and Donate. When you hit Start Converting it will check for three things…binary check, encoding check and ringtones path check and once it has found all three it will bring you to a list of all the artists on your iPhone. Just select an artist and then a song that you want to make your ringtone out of. From here you will get another menu with three options Quick Conversion, Advanced Conversion and Cancel.

Quick Conversion will just convert the the first 30 seconds of the song into a ringtone. Advanced Conversion allows you to select where in the song you want the ringtone made from, how long you want the ringtone to be, whether you want a preview of the song and if you want it in .wav format or not. Once you have selected everything, tap Convert Now and it will convert it…this step takes a little time so be patient…I think it took at least around 30-45 seconds for me. Once it is finished it will bring you back you your song list….tap Ringtones in the upper left corner (twice) and you will br brought to a list showing all the ringtones you have created…you can delete them from here if you need to. Now, go into your Stock Phone app, select a contact, select Ringtone and you should see the ringtones you created in the list of available ringtones! The only thing I would add to this app is the ability to fade out the end of the ringtone…right not it just ends. Also, this app only works on 1.1.3 and above. Other than that…a seriously sweet app!!
