When you open Search, you will notice a lower menu bar with the options; Mail, SMS, Notes, Contacts and Web. At the top of the screen is a Search bar. You can select any of the options in the lower menu bar and then use the search bar to search within that application. The thing that I like about this application is that once it has found an entry you can then select it to see the full Email, SMS message, Note, Contact etc. The Web option will search Google keeping you in the application instead of directing you to Safari so…that is also nice.
I did find that the Search is not extremely thorough. When searching in my SMS, I searched for the word “Sorry”, knowing that I was looking for a some specific text messages. It brought up three other text messages but, none of the ones that I had just look at in my SMS. Also, I searched for the keyword “Advertising” in my email and was greeted with one email when we have had a ton of emails lately with the word advertising in them. So, the search works decently well but is definitly not complete. I would also love to see more usability within the application. Like the ability to reply to an email from the app or respond to a text message. You are able to call a contact via the Contacts option which is a nice feature.

Overall, if you are looking for a quick way to search your email, SMS, notes or contacts you might want to check out this application.

Version 1.08.1b makes Search compatible with 1.1.4. Honestly…I had forgotten how useful this app can be! It has been a while since I have done a post about it (because nothing has come out about it) but, while witting this post I remembered how much I like this app! I also noticed a feature that I never noticed in the past…I don’t know if I just missed it or if it is new…but, when you search for a contact it not only gives you all the phone numbers listed for that contact (and email address, websites….) but there is also a button at the bottom with the option to text message them! I seriously have never seen that before…and it is not like you can miss it…it is a huge button! Ok, yep, just read the change log…that has been there for a few versions now! My bad! But, it is still really cool! Search is available through the Ste Packaging source. Below are the screenshots…including screenshots of the “new” feature I found!

We have never done a full review of this app…so, instead of just telling you what the update does (though below is a list of specifics for this update)…I am going to give you the full review!

Search is an app that allows you to search your Contacts and Calendar and is available in the Installer.app through the Ste Packaging source. When you open the app…you will get a pop-up asking you to donate now or later. If you choose to donate, you will not get the pop-up any more…if you choose not to donate you will get the pop-up every time you open the app. After you have made your selections…the app will open to the main menu. If you tap on the first option, Go To Date, it will bring up a scrolly wheel in which you can select a date. Once you have entered the date…you can tap on the green Go To Date button and it will bring that date up in you stock Calendar application. If you tap on the Search Contacts option, it will bring up a search bar in which you can type in the word/name you are searching for. As you type in the letters of the word you are searching for, it will update the search live…giving you the most relevant options. It will search your contacts first name, last name, organization, job title, department and notes. Once you have found the contact you are searching for, you can tap on it to see all of their information…once the info screen is up, you can also tap on a phone number to call that number (for some reason the Dial button in the upper right corner does not work for me!). The only downfall is that you cannot edit the contact information from here!

Back on the main menu, you can also choose to search you Calendar. You are able to search your Calendar based on summary, location, and notes. The Calendar search will also update as you type in the word you are searching for, giving you the most relevant options. Once you have found the calendar event you are looking for…you can tap on it to get the full event information (you cannot edit the event information). In the Preferences option, on the main menu, you can change what you would like the app to open to…it can either open to the Home Screen which is the main menu and then default setting or you can have it open directly to the Contact Search. Just tap on the option you would like and then tap the Back button in the upper left corner. If you donate…the last option on the main menu is for you! When you donate, you will receive a License code. Once you have your code you can tap on the License option and enter your code…you will then be able to open the app without seeing the donate pop-up. Overall…I think this app does exactly as the name implies…it searches…and does it a pretty good job of it!! Below are the screenshots:

Update 1.07b:
- Added support for FW 1.1.3
- Calendar event results are now sorted starting from most recent
- Improved unicode support in calendar event info

As soon as you open the app you will notice there is now a Search Calendar option. Before you could only go to a specific date, which you can still do, but now you can search by entering text. This is great if you title events with the word “birthday”. It also searches the location. A bug in my opinion is that it searches events from the past which would be a nice option, but not something I want it to do for every search. For example, if I search for ‘work’ it shows the first time I ever entered work because it is a repeating event and no others. Another downfall, which was in the previous version also, is that when selecting a contact from search you aren’t allowed to edit it.
